WaPo Busted by The Intercept

EVEN MORE DISTURBING than the Post’s shoddy journalism in this instance is the broader trend in which any wild conspiracy theory or McCarthyite attack is now permitted in U.S. discourse as long as it involves Russia and Putin – just as was true in the 1950s when stories of how the Russians were poisoning the U.S. water supply or infiltrating American institutions were commonplace. Any anti-Russia story was – and is – instantly vested with credibility, while anyone questioning its veracity or evidentiary basis is subject to attacks on their loyalties or, at best, vilified as “useful idiots.”

Two of the most discredited reports from the election season illustrate the point: a Slate article claiming that a private server had been located linking the Trump Organization and a Russian bank (which, like the current Post story, had been shopped around and rejected by multiple media outlets), and a completely deranged rant by Newsweek’s Kurt Eichenwald claiming that Putin had ordered emails in the WikiLeaks release to be doctored – both of which were uncritically shared and tweeted by hundreds of journalists to tens of thousands of people, if not more.

The Post itself – now posing as warriors against “fake news” – published an article in September that treated with great seriousness the claim that Hillary Clinton collapsed on 9/11 Day because she was poisoned by Putin. And that’s to say nothing of the paper’s disgraceful history of convincing Americans that Saddam was building non-existent nuclear weapons and had cultivated a vibrant alliance with Al Qaeda. As is so often the case, those who mostly loudly warn of “fake news” from others are themselves the most aggressive disseminators of it.

I confess that the WaPo is getting sloppier, along with NPR.

The NYT as well. They are calling for internet censorship to block “fake news”. The question is, who will be the arbiter of what is fake? Them? Their propaganda is okay, but…

ND Gov Suspends Sheriff, Possible Removal Pending

The governor ordered the interim suspension based on a recommendation from Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem after McKenzie County requested the sheriff be removed under a process available in state law.

The petition for removal was made by the county’s acting State’s Attorney Todd Schwarz on Oct. 24, alleging the sheriff is guilty of misconduct, malfeasance, crime in office, neglect of duty or gross incompetency. The county commission had voted in support of the petition for removal.

Mblockquote>The suspension was enforced by BCI agents, who tracked down Schwartzenberger late Wednesday while he was working near Cannon Ball on the Dakota Access Pipeline protest enforcement, according to the Williston Herald.

Wow indeed. I hope this helps the water protectors!

Just popping in for a sec to thank you for posting, mags, and it’s a good ‘un, too! Happy weekend.

What a crock of S..T!

“The decision by the Army Corps is a needed step to support the safety of residents, workers, protestors, and law enforcement,” said Heitkamp in a statement. “Safety must remain the top priority for everyone, and to help make that possible, it’s critical protestors peacefully and lawfully move off of the Corps land north of the Cannonball River and to the identified federal and tribal lands. There has been an escalation of violence among some of the protestors that puts their lives, as well as the lives of law enforcement, residents, and land owners in jeopardy.

It is obvious whose side she is on!

I guess Heidi didn’t see this tweet.

Bernie’s response (not to his colleague, but on twitter):

Heitkamp has received massive donor funding from Big Oil and Gas..as have the Governor and most North Dakota State Elected Officials and party Pols on both sides of the aisle.

Big Oil spent a lot of time investing in the pols early on, similar too what the Koch’s do.

They now control the narrative in the state and some might say they pretty much own it…ND local media as well.

An early proposal for the Dakota Access Pipeline called for the project to cross the Missouri River north of Bismarck, but one reason that route was rejected was its potential threat to Bismarck’s water supply, documents show.

Now a growing number of protesters are objecting to the oil pipeline’s Missouri River crossing a half-mile north of the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation, which they argue could threaten the water supply for the tribe and other communities downstream.

Early in the planning process, Dakota Access considered but eliminated an alternative that would have crossed the Missouri River about 10 miles north of Bismarck instead of the route currently under construction.

There’s no difference between Trump shutting down the weather satellites that report global warming and these mofos saying you can’t fly a drone over their war zone where they beat up defenseless water protectors. If it’s not on TV, it didn’t happen.

And the federal government, including Obama, is complicit. Mofos.

This sorta sums up the situation.

Myrone Dewey documents DAPLE police and military corroboration…while they trample and desecrate Native People’s graves..on Thanksgiving.

Thousands of water protectors from Standing Rock stormed turtle island on “thanksgiving” to ask police to leave their ancient burial ground.

The police and national guard had been set up on the hill overlooking Oceti Sakowin with giant floodlights. After the request for them to move they set up razor wire around the entire hillside and increased their presence.

The cry goes up…
“We have prayer, you have guns
we have relatives on top of the hill, you are standing on the graves of our ancestors. We ask you to leave.”
