This is going to be interesting. I’m watching The Guardian. They have Arkansas leaning Dem. What?!? But, maybe results are only in for the cities. I will be totally shocked if any Dems win here.

phatkhat

LOL. It’s red again. The people here are so damned hidebound, Confederate, and Bible Belt it is a wonder ANYthing even kind of progressive gets done. I was sort of surprised that Asa Hutchinson, the Gov, even supports computer science in all schools. (Out here in the sticks, lots of Bible thumpers are agin’ it. Of course, the most contentious county issue is whether they can get certain towns dry again. eyeroll)

grapevines

ABC just projected that the Rebuplicans retain the House and most of their Governorships.
..too bad Hillary Clinton didn’t share some of that Victory Fund cash down ballot…like she promised. oh well.

Tammy Duckworth has won a Senate seat over the Repug incumbent.

wi58

Not watching the networks ,just scanning various progressive friendly web sites and keeping up ,Surprised that the weapons on mass deception haven’t called it for her yet. Florida is suprising, and she probably wont win her old “home” state of Arkansas

grapevines

I caught about 5 minutes each of CBS & ABC while scrolling over to PBS.

Electoral college 68 Clinton, 66 Trump

yah, Trump’s leading in AK..amazing huh? or maybe not, they probably know the C’s real well.

phatkhat

AR. πŸ˜‰ AK is Alaska.

grapevines

oh gwd…I’m sorry..Thanks, yes I meant Arkansas.

phatkhat

That is a hugely common error! (I used to work in HR at a post office.)

phatkhat

People here do NOT like her outside a few enclaves – the area around Walmart HQ may go her way. Bill was a good ole boy. She is not.

Betty Pinson

Hi all! It’s not looking very good for Hillary at this point. Somehow, rejecting the liberal base and Millennial voters isn’t working out well.

wi58

Bernie would be way ahead by now if it wasn’t for its her turn

grapevines

Yup, he would have swept it and probably have brought in fresh progressive House members as well.

I’m just so depressed by the whole thing.

NVPainter

Yep. This is getting more depressing by the moment. I was looking at a map on HuffPo while listening to NPR, and states kept popping up as red. I can’t stand watching it… and all but one of the battleground states are leaning red. <:-(

magsview

Looks like Rubio has won over that bastard Patrick Murphy. Gee, what a surprise. I knew Murphy was in trouble when I read that Rubio said something to the effect that both presidential candidates were untrustworthy. So ironic that a career politician like Rubio transcended party loyalties.

grapevines

Trump wins Louisiana…no surprise there, the only time LA went Dem was when they all voted for Jimmy Carter (I think be was still a Southern Baptist then)

PBS reporting the Donald is taking the lead in Ohio.

humphrey

I haven’t been watching but just tuned into MSNBClinton and Kornaki was having a Sad regarding the Virginia results. It made me smile!

wi58

I think the pundants are very nervous right now, not to mention Clinton inc

Thomas Frank speaking right now re: election results.

humphrey

I have no idea who is going to win but I do know this much.

ONLY HiLLARY COULD LOOSE TO TRUMP,!

phatkhat

Well, she has a reputation of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

KrazyKitten

The Bradley Effect

NVPainter

So you think people have not been willing to say they’d vote for Trump in polls, when they really intended to vote for him all along?

KrazyKitten

That is exactly what I meant.

grapevines

…just like the Brexit vote.

KrazyKitten

Sigh… yes. From a comment I made on a friend’s Facebook post: The polls underestimated white working class rage. People have been left behind in this technocratic society. Populism was this year’s theme. However, this country chose the wrong populist. Bernie did well in rural counties. That is where HRC is getting crushed.

wi58

If Trump wins this thing Berners are getting the blame BUT we all know its the DNC and DWS and Hillary that are the blame.

phatkhat

Yup. Just said exactly that to hubs. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth – and excoriation of Berniecrats.

trubludude

I’m watching CNN and laughing out loud. I know I’m going to hell for it but I’m just in awe of the reveal. The words “Washington is a cesspool” just came up.

grapevines

Democracy Now just announced Florida, Ohio has been called for Trump

trubludude

Thank you LieperDestin for creating this site. Particularly tonight. And Benny for starting the thread. I realized no one else on line would get me tonight, except here. I’m very grateful here exists.

I’m in Ohio and I voted for the greens. My mother and my aunt are boomers and hugely regarded in their communities. They’re lovely, intelligent, thoughtful, and care genuinely for others. They individually told me how astonishingly awful they felt our choice was this year.

I asked my bf of 8+ years to marry me on Halloween weekend and they both were thrilled. My Aunt a touch less thrilled maybe, but she’s been divorced twice.

NVPainter

Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials!

grapevines

Congratulations and my very best wishes too you both!

phatkhat

Yay! Congrats! Yes, life – and love – will go on despite Washington’s insanity.

grapevines

CNN announces California and its 55 Electoral College votes go to Clinton. She has also taken Hawaii.

wi58

Anyone dare venture over to TOP?

NVPainter

Good question…. I’m glued to Democracy Now, but I may have to go out for a very long walk. I don’t know if I can stand much more of it. The electoral college is 216 to 197 now.

phatkhat

Ewww. I’m sure they are burning Bernie in virtual effigy at this point. And all his followers, too.

grapevines

NYT projects 91% win by Trump.. Nate Silvers now projecting T 61% chance of win.

Amy Goodman reports the DOW just dropped 200 points and out of country investors are moving millions out of the Us Foreign market.

grapevines

NYT now says 95% T

DOW now dropped 400 points
Foreign markets dropped 700…US Dollar plunging overseas.

phatkhat

ROFLMAO. That’s gonna hurt the rich dudes more than it will hurt us, I expect.

humphrey

Methinks that Hillary should have had a few less BIG $$$$$ Fundraisers and perhaps actually talked to the 99%.

Also too! I guess preserving Obama’s legacy was not a real vote getter.

grapevines

methinks you are right.

grapevines

North Dakota’s ballot measure regarding marijuana has passed, legalizing medical marijuana for specific debilitating medical conditions. The Associated Press called the measure with 69 percent of precincts reporting, saying 64 percent voted in favor and 36 percent were opposed.

phatkhat

Arkansas passed medical marijuana by about the same margins! It was the worse of the two bills, but the good one got tossed by the state Supremes, and it’s better than nothing. I wonder if my sciatica will qualify…

jcitybone

What a disaster. It looks like my nightmare scenario is coming true. Trump wins the electoral vote while Clinton takes the popular vote after the West Coast vote rolls in. It certainly will be an “interesting” four years with Trump as President and a Republican Congress. Both the Dems and the Republicans will be in upheaval.

phatkhat

And the Dems will decide they need to move further right. They’ll never learn.

grapevines

..not to depress you further but the experts on the Democracy Now Live Election round table are predicting Repug control of the Senate after the next election.

grapevines

Russ Feingold has been defeated in WI πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™

jcitybone

And Zephyr Teachout in NY. Bad night

phatkhat

The GOP spent a LOT of money on those races in the last week.

grapevines

the Koch’s put all their money in down ticket instead of the Trump campaign.

grapevines

thoughts of Trump’s chant of “lock her up” must be going thru Hillary Clinton’s mind about now.

jcitybone

It appears that the polls were off because they missed unlikely rural white voters who came out in droves for Trump. Actually, the polls really weren’t off by that much. If Clinton wins the popular vote by 1% or 1.5%, the polls will have only been off by a couple of points. Unfortunately for Clinton, her base is concentrated in states that weren’t close while Trump’s base is concentrated in swing states. 538 warned about this and polling error, which would put the election in Trump’s reach
I also wonder if the turnout in the election was on the low side, which wouldn’t be surprising given the unpopularity of the candidates and the nasty tenor of the campaign.

grapevines

Clinton completely ignored the rural voters and rural issues during her campaign. Why should they vote for her, she’s also very unpopular in rural areas.

phatkhat

Like Obama, she comes across to rural people as “elitist”. Rural people are not stupid, no matter what the urban liberals think. They know when they are being dissed.

grapevines

Some good news:

Sheriff Joe Arpaio has been voted out in Arizona.

YAH!!

NVPainter

At least there’s something….

phatkhat

Kos is a mixture of anger and disbelief and dwindling hope. Of course Bernie couldn’t have beaten Trump. Of course BernieBros and Jill Stein are to blame. Anything but that she is a flawed candidate. However, it seems the old Berniecrats are out dishing out crow and reveling in schadenfreude, LOL. (Ya, I got my licks in, LOL.)

phatkhat

From DPA…

California and Massachusetts just legalized the adult use of marijuana! The AP just called the initiatives.

Massachusetts is the first state in the Northeast to legalize marijuana, and as the most populous state in America, California will be the largest legal marijuana economy in the world. This is the tipping point we’ve been waiting for.

Drug Policy Action, our sister political organization, played a key leadership role in the California campaign β€” co-drafting the initiative, coordinating the political mobilization, social media, public relations, and more, and raising over $5 million to fund the effort.

Earlier tonight, Florida, North Dakota, and Arkansas legalized medical marijuana.

Initiatives to legalize marijuana in Maine, Arizona, and Nevada are currently too close to call.

NVPainter

Democracy Now is wrapping it up at 1 AM Eastern time…. 244 to 215 electoral votes. This is heartbreaking. I wonder what Bernie is thinking.

NVPainter

If anyone else is still up, here’s a link to watch the Young Turks live commentary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZOW_9rVkdo

grapevines

thanks NVPainter

NVPainter

You’re welcome – at least we’re in good company.

humphrey

I doubt that Hillary had a prepared concession speech. Surely they are scrambling. At least we won’t be subjected to her horrendous laugh.

phatkhat

I imagine heads are rolling at Clinton’s staff. She will find someone, anyone, to blame but herself.

humphrey

What a crock of SHIT! Kos just called for Bernie to be the head of the DNC. What a two faced dick.

NVPainter

Really????? Well, I wouldn’t have seen that coming….

phatkhat

Some real ugliness at KOS, as usual. They still hate the Bernie people.

humphrey

Podesta just announced that Hillary won’t be giving a concession speech tonight. She must be in a state of shock!

phatkhat

Or she’s busy with her lawyers trying to figure out how to do something.

grapevines

PBS just reported that Hillary Clinton just called Donald Trump to concede.

NVPainter

Well, I just went to watch The Daily Show…. Have you ever seen comedians depressed? Well, they sure are.
