A recent blog post of the National Book Critics Circle asked members “at this time of cultural shift” in the dawning era of Donald Trump to identify their “favorite work of resistance literature.” The writer Paul Wilner identified John Steinbeck’s “quietly furious” strike novel In Dubious Battle as his personal choice

If you know someone who wants to have an invisible twitter account, here is some information on how to do that. I suspect that these will be government employees fighting to stop the crimes of the Trump regime.

Zephyr Teachout’s op-ed today on Judge Gorsuch

https://www.washingtonpost.com/posteverything/wp/2017/02/21/neil-gorsuch-always-sides-with-big-business-big-donors-and-big-bosses/?utm_term=.0197359d286f

One of the most important questions for analyzing a potential Supreme Court justice is how he or she understands economic and political power: Who should govern? How should power be distributed in a society? In the case of Neil Gorsuch, the federal appeals judge President Trump has nominated for the high court, the answers are troubling. Gorsuch’s record on the bench reveals a man with a strong top-down streak, a preference for concentrated wealth and power. He has consistently been the friend of big business and monopolies at the expense of competition and open markets, and the friend of big donors at the expense of small donors. In disputes between the employee and employer, he sides with the boss.

A Gorsuch economy will look even more monopolized and unfair than the one we have today. A Gorsuch democracy won’t look much like a democracy at all, with donors allowed essentially unlimited avenues for influence.

Gorsuch’s views on antitrust and campaign finance go hand in hand. They reveal a judge who will further open the way for a few wealthy people to rob the American people of their basic freedoms and properties, and to subvert our democracy once and for all.

As a follow up to that.

You Are Not Defending ‘The Press’, Liberals, You Are Defending Powerful Corporations

http://www.newslogue.com/debate/348/CaitlinJohnstone

The media wars are escalating, and it is glorious. America’s liberals are all rushing to defend the same media establishment that spent the last election cycle deliberately undermining Bernie Sanders and attacking Jill Stein as though they’re sticking up for some poor, defenseless marginalized group and not some of the most powerful corporations on planet Earth. Trump’s use of the term “fake news” upon the establishment corporate media has everyone squealing about an imaginary attack on the First Amendment, even though (A) the freedom of the press is being violated in precisely zero ways, (B) the First Amendment protects Trump’s right to criticize media outlets, (C) these media outlets are the ones who invented and promulgated the term “fake news” in the first place as a way of sabotaging their competitors in alternative media, and (D) these people are voicing their criticisms using their First Amendment rights in a completely uninhibited way.

Wish I had a time machine that would visit an alternative time line to see how Bernie is doing as president–well I can dream

polarbear4

I second that! An alternative timeline where the votes are counted fairly. haha! One good thing about the Russia brouhaha is that TPTB admitted the machines are hackable.

Vile is too good a word for these people

From Bernie:

This is how cowardly bullies operate. They take campaign contributions from the wealthy and the powerful, and then beat up on the children, the elderly, the sick and the poor. Not only will Republicans push cuts to school lunch programs, they will go after the Legal Services Corporation, affordable housing, food stamps, Pell grants and any federal program that protects those in need. And then they will reward their campaign benefactors with hundreds of billions in tax breaks.

The Canadian Prime Minister is not dissuaded by Trump’s actions

http://thehill.com/homenews/news/320554-trudeau-canada-will-continue-to-accept-asylum-seekers-from-us

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Canada will continue to take in asylum seekers from the United States, while promising additional steps to ensure the safety of Canadians.

“One of the reasons why Canada remains an open country is Canadians trust our immigration system and the integrity of our borders and the help we provide people who are looking for safety,” Trudeau said on Tuesday, according to Reuters.

“We will continue to strike that balance between a rigorous system and accepting people who need help.”
