Liberal filmmaker Michael Moore on Tuesday slammed President Trump’s address to Congress, saying the president “used” the widow of a slain Navy SEAL as an “f-you” to those criticizing the raid on an al Qaeda base in Yemen that killed him.

Carryn Owens, the widow of the Ryan Owens, was in the audience of Trump’s speech and received a standing ovation from the chamber as she fought back tears.

Moore said Trump invited Carryn Owens as a prop to deflect criticism of the mission.

“That’s why she’s there, as sort of an ‘f-you’ to the people who are criticizing him for this,” Moore told MSNBC’s Chris Matthews after the address. “And this poor woman, this widow who has lost her husband, she is in desperate grief right now.”

“To use that to put another notch on his belt — and what is he thinking about? ‘My ratings. Record applause. I’m going to get an Emmy for this! Most applause for a dead soldier on my watch!’ ”

“This is the sickness of this man,” Moore concluded.

True, but it’s been done time and again–it’s the sickness of our military/corporate rule.

A good one from Jacobin, Matt Bruenig:

What Happened to Keith Ellison?

This is a post and dash–see you later, alligators! :O)

I don’t recall seeing this fun little video before…someone at TOP posted it this AM. It’s to the tune “Girls Want to Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper.

Thanks Benny LOL

Can you give a link for it at TOP. I’ve got to read the comments about the video.

Another Caitlin Johnstone,

What America Needs More Than Anything Is An Anti-Corporatism Movement

Hi, everyone. I’m still here. Really heavy storms around 3 am. Power went out just as I was going out the door. Still off at 1 pm. They say 6k people are out of power. The worst of it went south of us, but the yard is full of branches. On my tablet, so not going to write more. See y’all later.

Am so glad that you’re ok phatkhat! Did a kitty or two stay up top?

Yay phatkat! Keep us posted.

I fully agree with this tweet

As most of you know, I despair here in CT, a state that although blue technically, really isn’t very blue at all, representatively speaking I mean. The residents are a mixed bag with a fair # of mega-wealthy people to rabid gun owners. But most residents are definitely left of center.

Jim Himes, although said to be a decent fellow (I have no real idea about that), is basically representing big money interests.

He and his fellow ‘New Democrats’ are apparently licking their chops to get a piece of the $$$ action related to Trump’s big infrastructure plan (ka-ching) and of course Himes’ donors in Greenwich $$$$$ (and New Canaan $$$$, Westport $$$$, Easton $$$, Ridgefield $$$, Darien $$$ +) are most likely not going to have any issue at all with Trump “reforming our tax code”.

I’m not sure that CT’s 4th District can ever be won by a progressive as long as $$$ plays such a big role in politics, but I wish Himes would just make it official and become a Republican!

Well that’s a pathetic letter–but not surprising considering the source. Sean Patrick Maloney, across the border in NY is also part of that group and can be counted on to support anything Wall Street wants. My partner who is a district superintendent in Dutchess County (part of Maloney’s district) met with him last week and said he was pretty full of himself. Even worse he has to meet soon with Republican John Faso who represents the northern portion of the county. If only it could have been Zephyr!

From the SPCA. Of course Trump’s USDA is protecting animal abusers.

On February 3, 2017, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) removed from its website documentation about thousands of animal-related facilities regulated by the Animal Welfare Act. These include zoos, breeding facilities and research labs. A searchable database of inspection reports for commercial dog breeders was purged, as well as information documenting enforcement actions taken against them.

Until now, the reports were available to anyone with internet access—and suddenly, they’re gone. This information is critical in our efforts to monitor puppy mills and advocate for increased protections for the animals who languish in them year after year.

Your tax dollars paid for these inspections, and there’s no reason this documentation should be hidden—unless the USDA is protecting cruel industries that genuinely have something to hide.

sick. gotta protect those bidnesses, right? kinda like the mic.

Last 2 paragraphs from the above article.

That’s not happening right now but we can change that simply by making a big stink about corporatist politicians across the spectrum. It’ll mean humbling ourselves and talking to those scary Republican people, but if we keep the conversation to only corporate money we can really collaborate and make something happen. It’s clear that the powers-that-be are not going to legislate out corporate money, but we can make it a political disqualifier quite easily by just doing what we do best — spreading information so people can make informed decisions.

The only people who still support the Democratic party as it exists today are the people who don’t understand corporatism and the people who profit from it. Due to widespread internet access and populist unrest on both ends of the political spectrum, we can change this lack of understanding very quickly if we stop competing left against right and start collaborating bottom against top to take power away from these sociopathic corporate entities and give it back to the people. There’s no point getting lost in debates over whose ideology is better until Americans can determine the direction of their own country anyway. Something to think about.
