Thought this was interesting..

But this week, when Ms. Reid was confronted with a new batch of homophobic writings from that same period, she said she had been the victim of hackers.

That claim was called into question on Tuesday, when the Internet Archive, the meticulous online record-keeping nonprofit that hosted the archived version of her site, said it had found no evidence to support her claim.

Late Tuesday night, MSNBC provided documents that show Ms. Reid’s lawyers alerted Google and the Internet Archive to the alleged hacking in December, shortly after her public apology but long before the latest batch of posts appeared on social media.

If I am reading this correctly, Reid claims the Wayback Machine was breached but there is no evidence it was?

The same tv personality who has relentlessly gone after Jane and Bernie Sanders’ marriage, chastised Bernie on Twitter about not being a real Democrat and criticized some writings of his in the past?

I think her antics are worthy of publicity.

It would be odd to apologize for something that you didn’t do

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2018/04/25/msnbc-host-joy-ann-reid-once-apologized-for-homophobic-comments-on-her-blog-now-she-says-she-was-hacked/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.6920ccf3f3e8

In her December apology, Reid wrote:

“As someone who is not a member of the LGBT community I regret the way I addressed the complex issue of the closet and speculation on a person’s sexual orientation with a mocking tone and sarcasm. It was insensitive, tone deaf and dumb. There is no excusing it — not based on the taste-skewing mores of talk radio or the then-blogosphere, and not based on my intentions.”

But after @Jamie_Maz and Mediaite published a second round of blog post images Monday, Reid disputed them, revealing that she consulted with a cybersecurity expert in December who “identified unauthorized activity” on her blog.

Reid did not specify which posts she believed were fraudulent or which offensive comments she allegedly didn’t write. She offered no explanation for why she apologized for homophobic comments in December yet now claims a nefarious person must have hacked her.

http://thehill.com/homenews/media/384766-lgbt-group-rescinds-award-for-msnbcs-joy-reid

A leading LGBT advocacy group rescinded its Straight for Equality in Media Award to MSNBC host Joy Reid on Tuesday amid a controversy surrounding newly-unearthed homophobic comments made on a decade-old blog.

Liz Owen, director of communications for PFLAG National, said the group had invited Reid to honor her at their 45th anniversary celebration knowing about some posts that she had already apologized for.

But it said revelations of new posts had caused it to rescind the invitation.

“We appreciated how she stepped up, took ownership, apologized for them, and did better—this is the behavior and approach we ask of any ally,” Owens said of the older posts. “However, in light of new information, and the ongoing investigation of that information, we must at this time rescind our award to Ms. Reid.”

polarbear4

Why would she, of all people, get the award anyway?

Benny

She’s a *resister*.

Yep, we are to blame for Joy’s missteps.

Benny

Be sure to read the entire tweet though. Carlo is snarking here about Scott Nevin’s tweet.

Amazing. We are pretty powerful and responsible for so many things!

Karma?

The Internet Archive Trashes Joy Reid’s Dubious Claim That Hackers Made Her Look Homophobic
Katherine Krueger

It’s a bizarre development given Reid’s past comments about the LGBTQ community, which she owned up to and apologized for. She’s also clearly been forgiven; she’s even slated to be honored by the LGBTQ rights organization PFLAG, which is giving her its Straight for Equality in Media award on May 9. (Update: PFLAG has rescinded that award.)

One might wonder if any of this matters.

Glenn Greenwald:

MSNBC’s Joy Reid Claims Her Website Was Hacked and Bigoted Anti-LGBT Content Added, a Bizarre Story Liberal Outlets Ignore

The reason liberal news sites are ignoring the story is as self-evident as it is troubling: Because Reid’s ideology is in accordance with theirs, and they therefore don’t care if she’s lying or telling the truth when denying authorship of these bigoted articles, nor do they care about the anti-LGBT bigotry itself. Those are concepts to be exploited opportunistically for partisan gain; they are devoid of any actual conviction. Their silence on this latest, incredibly strange episode involving one of their iconic media personalities demonstrates that rather compellingly.

Just as right-wing sites would be steadfastly ignoring this story if a Fox News host… liberal sites are going to just pretend the Joy Reid story does not exist until it disappears.

Perhaps this is one of the reasons why trust in media institutions has collapsed to the point where people are as willing to believe what they read from fake sites as they are from established ones?

Because of the following tweet, I found out that I’m blocked by that bully Armando! I have no idea why. I always did my best to stay as far away from him as possible.

You’ll see in the comments that Erik Wemple replies to Armando, but I cannot view Armando’s tweet. I’m probably better off for it quite frankly.

I find this very troubling. The DNC in particular is wasting so much money on ridiculous expenditures like this, the ridiculous recent lawsuit and, of course, their scads of consultants.

Why would anyone give them any of their precious, hard-earned money is beyond me.

Benny

I guess Clinton’s outfit needed the money like she needed it when giving Wall St speeches.

Greed. This will hurt the Dems when Fox News gets ahold of it if any candidate is tied to Owned Together.

Daily Beast’s Jonathan Alter: Democrats Need Less Democracy To Win 2018 Midterm Elections

There is a genre of commentary from liberal pundits that persistently appears like crab grass, and it involves scolding progressive or left-wing voters for their activism around elections. Jonathan Alter, a columnist for The Daily Beast and an MSNBC analyst, is the latest pundit to pen a nauseating lecture.

Ahead of the 2018 midterm elections, even though the “odds” favor flipping the House of Representatives, Alter expresses concern about Democrats who are already banking on a victory.

Alter is correct to worry. After all, Democrats lost over 1,000 seats at the federal and state level while Barack Obama was president. But what Alter proposes to stave off another disappointing election cycle is rather feebleminded.

“To flip the House, Democrats and other concerned Americans will have to dig deep in their pockets, subordinate their particular concerns to the cause of winning, and do what it takes to protect democracy,” Alter proclaims.

In other words, in order to “protect democracy,” there must be less democracy in the Democratic Party.

Btw, I love this writer, Kevin Gosztola, he’s consistently perceptive (and just snarky enough to apply a bit of healing balm in his own way).

Debate sparked over University of Alberta tribute to David Suzuki

A University of Alberta decision to award David Suzuki an honourary degree during a fever-pitched national debate over the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion has struck an angry chord with the province’s land-locked energy industry and has spurred a counter-debate about academic freedom.

The university has been flooded with complaints about the tribute planned for the outspoken Canadian scientist and environmentalist. University alumni – many of whom work as engineers, lawyers or accountants in downtown Calgary – say they will consider pulling any donations to the school. The deans of both the engineering and business schools are apologizing to alumni this week for the university’s actions.

The author and activist and long-time host of The Nature of Things TV show told a Calgary audience just two months ago that “the tar sands have to be shut down.” In choosing him as an honourary degree recipient, the University of Alberta said “he is the face of environmental consciousness to generations of Canadians.” Steve Cornish, chief executive of the David Suzuki Foundation, said “this degree is not a blind endorsement of Dr. Suzuki’s perspectives on any given issue – it’s a tribute to Dr. Suzuki’s incredible career.”

This stupid pipeline extension is splitting Canada apart! I certainly hope that Kinder Morgan’s profits are worth such divisiveness.

Joseph Doucet, the dean of the university’s school of business, said the honourary degree is made worse “given the political and social climate.” Dr. Doucet said he has spent recent days speaking with dozens of unhappy business alumni and decided to post a letter outlining his own concerns on Tuesday – joining the dean of the engineering school, Fraser Forbes, in apologizing to those who he said feel betrayed.

In a letter posted on the engineering school’s webpage, Dr. Forbes wrote he is only now understanding “how deeply Albertans feel that we have, without fairness or justification, been made climate-change pariahs by much of the world, as well as being vilified by our fellow Canadians.”

When I was in college chemical engineers were in great demand, so many people went that route. But then there was a glut of chemical engineers!

At the time, we kids were young and stupid, and just wanted to find a decent profession that was in demand. But now so many more people are aware of the destructiveness of the oil extraction. But they still need jobs.

Chris Cuomo needs a different job. He is a terrible broadcaster, won’t allow Trump’s spokesperson to answer questions regarding the FBI investigation in 2016. I will try to find a video tomorrow, but it is disgusting how in the tank Cuomo is for the Clintons.

Benny

Reid’s posts from her blog have been kept from view, despite what Wikileaks is reporting and they appear to be altered, but I think they were altered by her team.
