OK. I am allowed to say weird things here. Many involve Bruno Latour.

A couple years ago I read an article of his on Sovereignty. I had to reread it a couple of times and could go back to it now and maybe make sense of it. It had discussion of boundaries, inside, outside, time, etc. For example, we have never been outside, we have always been inside, in the Critical Zone — the onion skin from the deep rocks to the atmosphere, a region a few KM thick. (I don’t recall if he used that term in the article but he has used it since and is out recently with an article about how to characterize the critical zone – the geochemical reactions in the critical zone from the atmosphere, life and the rocks underneath. ) In any case, Bruno has many times pointed out that pollution knows no nation state boundaries. ( Think about it: we have never been outside. Never had a transcendent position say from science or religion. We have always been inside. )

While I am wandering around before linking the article I am going to link, I am starting two books by geographers who think Bruno is full of shit. Well, not quite that strong, but they are giving a counter argument that involves the social/political change necessary on a global level to combat climate change. They are Marxists, but not tied down in that abstruse language which I have always avoided. One of the authors is a prof at Ohio State Univ down the street from me so it will be interesting to talk with him after I have figured out his argument.

The reason for this is a Long Read in The Guardian

The demise of the nation state:
After decades of globalisation, our political system has become obsolete – and spasms of resurgent nationalism are a sign of its irreversible decline.

This is the backdrop of some of the major issues we are dealing with.

Eating healthy IS expensive and organic even more so. Our processed food supply is detrimental to your health. How many people have to eat this junk just to have a meal because of their economic situation and cant afford to eat healthy. Look at our corporate advertising, all geared towards fast food, junk food 24-7. Our food supply is a profit center to the health care companies and do not see that changing anytime soon. Hell refined sugar is basically a poison and the US has a heavy addiction to it.

Even the DCCC is jumping onto this bandwagon!!

The rise of the anti-PAC Democrat

A growing number of Democrats running for Congress in 2018 are foregoing contributions from political action committees, opting for a more grassroots approach to fundraising in a bid to appeal to the party’s progressive base.

Candidates, progressive activists and Democratic consultants are betting the strategy will appeal to voters who are frustrated with the influence of money in politics. President Donald Trump tapped into that anger in 2016, as did Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., who made campaign finance reform a central part of his message.

Now, looking to the midterms, Democrats are “championing bold reform agendas, including getting dark money out of politics and limiting the influence of corporate special interests,” Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee spokesman Tyler Law said in a statement. He added that the rejecting money from political action committees, or PACs, is “particularly powerful because it appeals to voters across the political spectrum.”
