Burn the witch

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2017/05/18/trump-claims-to-be-victim-of-witch-hunt-following-appointment-of-special-counsel-in-russia-case/?utm_term=.8db4a3a9ae91

President Trump described himself the victim of a “witch hunt” Thursday morning, a day after the Department of Justice appointed a special counsel to investigate possible collusion between Trump associates and the Russian government to meddle in the 2016 presidential election.

In a pair of early morning tweets Thursday shortly before 8 a.m., Trump — without evidence — pointed to “the illegal acts” he claimed occurred during Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign and former President Barack Obama’s administration, expressing anger that a special counsel had never been appointed to investigate his Democratic rivals.

He also misspelled “counsel” as “councel.”

On Thursday morning, Reuters reported that former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn and other Trump campaign advisers “were in contact with Russian officials and others with Kremlin ties in at least 18 calls and emails during the last seven months of the 2016 presidential race.”

That news stands in contrast to what Trump transition team chair-turned-Vice President Mike Pence said in January, when he repeatedly denied during TV interviews that there was any communication between the Trump campaign and Russian officials.

Mr. President. Appointing a special counsel is not a witch hunt. It’s the right thing to do and I’m glad, in a bipartisan way, that it is supported by many of your Republican colleagues. Republicans have said that Robert Mueller is “a great choice,” with “impeccable credentials,” that appointing him was “the right thing to do.” This is not a witch hunt. This is what must be done to give Americans faith in the investigative process.

John Kiriakou has been on lately with the release of his new book. He was the former CIA agent who outed them for torture and was sent to jail

Neck and Neck

Perriello leads Northam in VA Dem Governor primary 40% to 38%

Sanders and Warren’s endorsement of Perriello makes voters more likely to vote for him by a 57% to 15% margin (23% no difference). That’s slightly better than the margins for Northam’s endorsement by the VA establishment Dems including Gov. McAuliffe (50/17/27)
