So will The Atlantic Council censors accuse NYT of putting out propaganda?? (Don’t hold your breath)

NYT Finally Retracts Russia-gate Canard

Exclusive: A founding Russia-gate myth is that all 17 U.S. intelligence agencies agreed that Russia hacked into and distributed Democratic emails, a falsehood that The New York Times has belatedly retracted, reports Robert Parry.

On Thursday, the Times appended a correction to a June 25 article that had repeated the false claim, which has been used by Democrats and the mainstream media for months to brush aside any doubts about the foundation of the Russia-gate scandal and portray President Trump as delusional for doubting what all 17 intelligence agencies supposedly knew to be true.

Since Clapper’s and Brennan’s testimony in May, the Times and other mainstream news outlets have avoided a direct contradiction of their earlier acceptance of the 17-intelligence-agencies canard by simply referring to a judgment by “the intelligence community.”

That finessing of their earlier errors has allowed Hillary Clinton and other senior Democrats to continue referencing this fictional consensus without challenge, at least in the mainstream media.

For instance, on May 31 at a technology conference in California, Clinton referred to the Jan. 6 report, asserting that “Seventeen agencies, all in agreement, which I know from my experience as a Senator and Secretary of State, is hard to get. They concluded with high confidence that the Russians ran an extensive information war campaign against my campaign, to influence voters in the election.”

Apparently, just the other day Podesta repeated the ’17 U.S. intelligence’ lie. They’ll keep doing it too, unless we call them out.

polarbear4

They still write as though the investigations that were done were not headed by pretty biased people though.

Still, good to see a retraction.

Jimmy Dore and Lee Camp hit it out of the park!

It is much more than the title suggests. Jimmy is on a roll.

NDP to form a government in British Columbia, Liberals out after 16 years

This is big. This almost the equivalent of The People’s Party overthrowing the Democrats with the help of the Green Party to stop DAPL.

The road ahead for B.C. politics

What the agreement between the BC NDP and Green Party says, and what that could mean for the province’s future

Kinder Morgan

The parties will “immediately employ every tool available” to stop the expansion of the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain pipeline, increase in tanker traffic and transportation of raw bitumen.

Both the NDP and the Greens had opposed the project, in stark contrast to the BC Liberals, who approved it earlier this year.

The parties will now find themselves at odds with the NDP government in Alberta and with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who says the expanded pipeline between Alberta and the B.C. coast is in the national interest. Both Mr. Trudeau and Alberta Premier Rachel Notley repeated their insistence Tuesday that the project must proceed with or without B.C.’s support.

“That is an absolute lie.”

http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/%e2%80%98that-is-an-absolute-lie%e2%80%99-sanders-says-of-college-claims/ar-BBDtnpN?li=BBnb7Kz&ocid=U218DHP

Hayes asked Sanders about that claim Thursday, two days after the senator defended his wife’s integrity on CNN and called a federal investigation politically motivated but otherwise declined to discuss the matter.

“There are some serious allegations,” Hayes said on MSNBC, noting that Bernie and Jane Sanders have lawyers. “I know that you’ve said that this is politically motivated, but I do want to ask you on the record, face to face. The most serious allegation is that you improperly used your office to help secure financing for loans for Burlington College, and I want to ask you on the record if that’s true.”

“And do you know where that allegation came from?” Sanders responded. “That allegation came from the vice chairman of the Vermont Republican Party and Donald Trump’s Vermont campaign state director. That is an absolute lie.

“But, you know, that’s what you expect from the Trump administration and people associated with Donald Trump,” Sanders continued. “These people do not choose to debate the real issues facing the American people, whether it’s their disastrous health care bill, whether it’s climate change, whether it’s their attack on women’s rights, or so many other issues.”

Good for Merkel in finally allowing this–but it did take a while.

http://www.nbcnews.com/feature/nbc-out/german-lawmakers-approve-same-sex-marriage-landmark-vote-n778496

Germany’s parliament backed the legalization of same-sex marriage on Friday in a historic vote hailed by gay activists and leftist parties but criticized by some in Chancellor Angela Merkel’s ruling conservative bloc and by the Catholic Church.

The move brings Germany into line with many other European nations including France, Britain and Spain and follows Merkel’s surprise decision this week to allow her lawmakers to follow their own conscience rather than the party line on the issue. Merkel, daughter of a Protestant pastor, voted against the bill.

The vote has particular resonance in Germany as it unwinds a legacy of virulent homophobia. Earlier this year parliament agreed to grant compensation to thousands of gay men jailed under a 19th century law that was strengthened by the Nazis and only dropped in 1969 when homosexuality was decriminalised in West Germany.

Merkel, who is seeking a fourth term in a national election on Sept. 24, said she had voted against the bill because she believed that marriage as defined under German law was between a man and a woman.

But she said her decision was a personal one, adding that she had become convinced in recent years that same-sex couples should be allowed to adopt children.

“I hope that the vote today not only promotes respect between the different opinions but also brings more social cohesion and peace,” she said.

A survey by pollster INSA for daily Bild showed this week that three quarters of Germans favored the legalization of same-sex marriage.

Republican play to destroy democracy

I may have published this before and if so it can be ignored

It might have already been in the comments here

But this really scared the shit out of me and I have to post it again

It is a historian who uncovered the republican plan to destroy democracy

We have seen it before, but now that the “big bang” is underway, and it is clear that the Koch, oligarchy, corporations, war machine, are on a roll

The establishment democratic party is unable to stand up for the country against the decades old plan that continues to be unfolded. Just the take over of the courts at all levels is a coup, but now more than ever, the democrats need to change or die.

Historian: Republican Push to Replace Obamacare Reflects Radical Right’s Stealth Plan for America

Republicans Have Trifecta Control of 25 States & Need 6 More to Call for a Constitutional Convention

With the 2016 election we learned about the corruption of The Clintons. (I never knew how bad it was because of the smoke screen of Bill’s sex stuff and other flack) With the election of Trump we now see the republican agenda to destroy democracy. Thank god for Trump!

orlbucfan

They need 2/3rds of the states (34) to call a Constitutional Convention. Please correct if I’m wrong as I’m watching this one carefully, too.

wi59

that’s why 2018 is so crucial just to get one chamber in the D column if they don’t we will truly be a one party system – corporatist fascist govt once the new constitutional amendments are passed. Either the voters that have sat on the sidelines for years come out and vote or the experiment in democracy will be over

There will be no Medicaid-for-all option in Nevada.

Gov. Brian Sandoval waited until the last day he could — Friday — to veto a measure that would have offered a state-sponsored health insurance option to all residents regardless of income. If he hadn’t signed it or vetoed it by midnight, it would have become law.

Had the Republican governor signed it, however, Nevada would have become the first state to attempt a Medicaid-for-all approach to health insurance. It also would have placed Nevada among the ranks of states including California that are looking for ways to solidify health insurance options for populations that will be risk if Congress and President Trump gut the Affordable Care Act.

The bill was short — just four pages — and its sponsor, Democratic Assemblyman Mike Sprinkle, acknowledged that it would require a lot of work if it had become law. That’s why, Sprinkle said, he put an implementation date of January 2019 within the bill’s text.

In a statement, he expressed disappointment by the governor’s veto.

“Healthcare is a right, not a privilege or a product. With this veto, Governor Sandoval has actively decided to veto a right that all Nevadans should have,” Sprinkle said. “I won’t give up on the fight to secure access to quality and affordable healthcare for every Nevadan — I will bring this legislation back next session.”

Morning Joe hosts say Trump tried to blackmail them with National Enquirer hit-piece

The Washington Post op-ed Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough penned in response to the sexist tweets President Trump posted Thursday morning mocking Brzezinski’s appearance contains a bombshell allegation: that Trump tried to blackmail them with a National Enquirer hit-piece.

“This year, top White House staff members warned that the National Enquirer was planning to publish a negative article about us unless we begged the president to have the story spiked,” they write. “We ignored their desperate pleas.”

During their show on Friday morning, the Morning Joe hosts provided more details.

“The president is friends with the guy that runs that National Enquirer,” Scarborough said. “And they said, ‘If you call the president up, and you apologize for your coverage, then he will pick up the phone and basically spike this story.’ I had, I will just say, three people at the very top of the administration calling me, and the response was like, are you kidding me? I don’t know what they have, run a story.”

Brzezinski said that the Enquirer called her teenage children and close friends in an effort to dig up dirt on her and Scarborough.

“These calls persisted for quite some time, and then Joe had the conversations that she had with the White House where they said, ‘Oh, this could go away,’” she said.

Scarborough said that tabloid journalists were even staking out Brzezinski’s house.

“After all this started happening, that’s when we started getting calls from the White House saying, ‘If you call, you need to call the president, and we’ll do what we can,’” he added.

Benny

This is equally bad and likely why the vitriol snowballed:

Brzezinski had a procedure to tighten the skin under her neck that she called a “turkey neck,” according to Vanity Fair. Trump, Scarborough said, was impressed by the work and asked for the doctor’s name “10 times” after she revealed the procedure to Melania Trump.

“Donald kept saying, ‘That’s incredible. You can’t even tell? Who did it? Who did it?’” he told Vanity Fair. “He kept asking for the name of the doctor. He literally asked 10 times.”

The Trump Administration Is Planning an Unprecedented Attack on Voting Rights

We are witnessing the beginning of a nationwide voter-suppression campaign, led by the White House and enabled by Congress and the Department of Justice.

Four things happened yesterday that pose a grave danger to voting rights.

1. The House Appropriations Committee voted to defund the Election Assistance Commission, the only federal agency that helps states make sure their voting machines aren’t hacked.

2. The Department of Justice sent a letter to all 50 states informing them that “we are reviewing voter registration list maintenance procedures in each state covered by the NVRA [National Voter Registration Act]” and asking how they plan to remove voters from the rolls.

3. The White House commission on election integrity, led by vice chair Kris Kobach, also sent a letter to 50 states asking them to provide sweeping voter data

4. The Trump administration named Hans von Spakovsky of the Heritage Foundation as a member of the commission, who’s done more than anyone other than Kobach to spread the myth of voter fraud and enact suppressive policies.

Also, I learned today that Ken Blackwell is on the commission! Of all people!! Trump keeps hiring the exactly wrong people for each task.

Notorious Vote Suppressor Ken Blackwell Appointed To New Trump “Election Integrity” Commission

polarbear4

So far, California and Virginia have refused to send the requested data. Let’s hope more join them.

Please see updates in my diary if you have time. Reactions coming in. Even from Indiana where their SOS says she will only send what she can send legally, what is already publicly available, and meanwhile she is on the commission!

She is also known to do her part suppressing voting…

Really Texas S Ct? Unanimous?

http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/jurisprudence/2017/06/texas_supreme_court_refuses_to_extend_spousal_benefits_to_same_sex_couples.html

On Friday, the Texas Supreme Court ruled that the Constitution does not clearly require states to extend spousal benefits to same-sex couples. The unanimous decision interprets the Supreme Court’s ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges narrowly, questioning whether it compels states to treat same-sex couples equally to opposite-sex couples in any context outside of marriage licensing. Arkansas recently raised this argument at the United States Supreme Court and lost. The Texas Supreme Court’s decision may eventually meet the same fate.

This maneuver is an oblique way for Texas Supreme Court to defy Obergefell without acknowledging what it’s doing. Obergefell declared that the Constitution grants same-sex couples “the constellation” of “rights, benefits, and responsibilities” that “the states have linked to marriage.” Its holding was not limited to marriage licensing. The Arkansas Supreme Court learned this lesson when it attempted to keep same-sex parents off their children’s birth certificates. On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court reversed that ruling in Pavan v. Smith, affirming that the Constitution prevents such “disparate treatment.”

The Texas Supreme Court essentially ignores this command in an insidious effort to preserve vestiges of the pre-Obergefell regime. Its gambit will almost certainly fail in light of Pavan. But it’s alarming to see the justices roll the dice anyway—possibly out of fear that a pro-gay decision could spur voters to kick them off the bench. (The court noted that it considered “emails, letters, and postcards” from individual citizens in deciding Pidgeon; judges do not normally take public opinion into account so directly when ruling on civil rights.) Neil Gorsuch, Donald Trump’s Supreme Court justice, is already encouraging lower courts to buck Obergefell and preserve anti-gay laws. State supreme courts are paying attention. And so, two years after Obergefell, the equal dignity of same-sex couples is once again in jeopardy.
