Emma not happy with Maloney. She said that he blew all of his money on the AG race and that might make his district now go red. The Maloney thing is very suspect, imo.

Not happy with Maloney either, but he didn’t use all his Congressional money on the AG race. He has lots thanks to his Wall Street friends. I think he’s pretty safe. Except for some very rural spots, NY is very anti-Trump. NY18 is mostly suburban with some urban pockets.
Thank god he didn’t win. We would have been stuck with him as AG and then NY18 would definitely have been in play

polarbear4

Has Beto answered anyone on why in the heck he endorsed Maloney?

Benny

Colleagues I think. Akin to RBG and Scalia being good friends.

Both in New Dem caucus

I’m happy to see she won Thompkins, which is the home of Cornell.

Across the Hudson from me. Faily liberal county, which was a Teachout stronghold. Large state university with 7500 students in New Paltz.

Democratic sheriff to run as Republican after stunning upset by progressive challenger in primary

New York State’s primary election news may be dominated by names like Cuomo, Nixon, Teachout, and the IDC, but the results of a little-known county sheriff’s race carry echoes of issues debated hotly at the national level.

Ulster County Democrats resoundingly voted to nominate former state trooper Juan Figueroa for sheriff, dealing a political setback to incumbent Sheriff Paul Van Blarcum and setting the two men up for a final rematch in the November general election.

With 100 percent of the county reporting in, Figueroa received 13,119 votes, or 81.9 percent of the vote, to Van Blarcum’s 2,885. Van Blarcum, a Democrat, waged a strong campaign to keep his party’s nomination despite having been endorsed by the Republican, Independence, and Conservative parties as well.

Figueroa, a retired Marine and state trooper, challenged his own sheriff due to what he called Van Blarcum’s “divisive rhetoric” on immigration, guns, Trump, and criticizing NFL players for protesting before games.

Jeff Bezos Homeless Pledge Follows Amazon Fight Against Housing Tax

Amazon.com Inc. Chief Executive Officer Jeff Bezos’s pledge of $2 billion for homeless families and preschools has little chance of addressing the root cause of a problem often blamed on big technology companies: the shortage of affordable housing.

Bezos announced the plan Thursday in a Twitter post, offering with his wife, MacKenzie, to support nonprofits that provide shelter and food to young, homeless families as well as to launch and operate preschools. The pledge came three months after Amazon helped overturn a proposed tax on large employers in its hometown of Seattle that would have raised about $50 million per year to fight homelessness and create more affordable housing.

As the world’s wealthiest man who mostly employs hourly warehouse workers, Bezos has become a symbol of wealth inequality and a target of a campaign by U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont to boost wages for the working poor and reduce the benefits companies get from governments. Tax breaks have fueled Amazon’s warehouse expansion around the country and some of its workers receive government assistance for food, making it a target.

will they be on the company scrip?

It’s part of philanthropy’s long history of ignoring broader structural issues as a way for billionaires to treat their contributions as a gift rather than an obligation.

Morning TPW,ers my 50-55 hour work weeks are over for awhile and I took a 4 day weekend to get away from the office, that’s why I get to post respond early today :). Anyway my thoughts turned to the struggle were fighting for which to me means FDR’s 2nd bill of rights. The R’s call us socialists, left wing nut jobs the media call us the far left as do the neolibs. The US is somewhat considered the most powerful/advanced country on the planet. Well we really excel at greed and power, exploiting others and corruption as were in the Robber Barron 2.0 era. Don’t get me started on our MIC based economy. I found the ranking for the countries with the best quality of life. The top 10 were dominated by countries with Social Dem policies ala FDR 2nd bill of rights.(the US was 17th) Are things perfect in these countries -no- but their better off than what we are in a lot of areas. With the current Berniecrat’s winning office it gives hope that changes will be made as more are elected to move the US back on top. Link to the rankings

sympathies on the “full” work week. hope the moola is pouring in. hope these 4 days are relaxing.

thx 4 the link. :O)

wi60

Thx PB looks like normal till the end of the year so gonna have a few more of these mini weekends, being mgt. (one of the drawbacks of mgt.) I only got straight time for the extra hours 🙁 still helped the paycheck though

I’m so glad to hear that those long work weeks are in your rearview mirror!

Thank you for your thoughts on “the struggle”. The road is a bit easier to navigate with allies. My Canadian friends and relatives have no idea what we regular people go through here. They can’t fathom the lack of a safety net at all.

wi60

Thx Mags, I just strongly feel that not only the US but every person on the whole planet should have those basics FDR proposed so long ago. Our planetary resources should benefit all not just a few just because they were blessed with many more zeros after the 1 thru 9 on their paychecks. I will go to my grave with this ideal and hopefully my kids will too.

Love you more, Bernie.

Nixon’s campaign released some soundbites from her concession speech last night. She was on fire!

I saw someone on twitter this morning say something to the effect that someone should tell Nixon that she lost, lol. It made me smile. Good for her coming through it still feisty like that!

‘Stopping Cuts Isn’t Enough’: Sanders Joins Over 150 Democrats to Launch ‘Expand Social Security Caucus’

As the Republican Party continues to be quite explicit about its ultimate goal of slashing the safety net to pay for deficit-exploding tax cuts for their wealthy donors, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) joined 150 Democrats from both houses of Congress on Thursday to launch the Expand Social Security Caucus, which will work to combat the GOP’s efforts to gut the program and move to make it even stronger.

“We are here today to say very loudly and very clearly that at a time when millions of seniors are trying to survive on $12,000 or $13,000 a year, our job is not to cut Social Security,” Sanders said in a statement. “Our job is to expand Social Security so that everyone in America can retire with dignity and respect.”

Joined explicitly by Warren (tweet in article) and list of joiners link in article also. Please, please Warren and Bernie join forces for 2020 so that we can have a blow out for once, something no one can fix, and, goddess willing, eight years to put some truly compassionate, kick ass programs in place.

That’s what I’m talkin’ ’bout!

Benny

What a nice tweet by James Zogby!

This is a good use of taxpayer (ie socialist) funds:

polarbear4

Wonderful. Now if we could follow Seattle, iirc, and fund a central place where there are P.O. boxes and message machines. Every city could have a central place like this, with clothes, P.O. boxes, messages. Complemented by somewhere to sleep and eat, of course.

Having participated in Occupy, while I respect the rights of those who choose to be houseless (some have wealthy parents), I don’t wish to support that lifestyle, especially those that turn to theft and consider themselves “pirates.” But for those that want to work, if they can, now that’s a grand way to spend my taxes!

magsview

That’s very cool. 🙂

Uh oh for Scott! When David Sirota gets on your case, you’d better watch out.

I expect the Intercept to help out with the digging as well.

The fact that this worthless POS was an indicted Medicare Fraud crook who lucked out/spent $75M to win his first term as governor should tell you all you need to know!

I don’t know exactly what the heck is going on with the Kavanaugh hearings, but it would appear that Republicans are both crying foul about ‘last minute allegations’ against Kavanaugh (that seem to be of a sexual misconduct nature) AND have been able to produce 65 female character witnesses who supposedly knew him during his high school years in a very short period of time.

Keep in mind that Kavanaugh went to an all-boys high school.

orlbucfan

The longer these hearings drag on, the less chance the FRightwingers will have to get this whiteface Clarence Thomas installed in POTUS.

wi60

Gwad hope your right Orl,as the decisions he will make just scare me to all hell, it will be bad for a lot of us more so women!!!
