Scratch this jerk from any consideration for Dem leadership. I’m sure cutting corporate taxes will help everyone. How about making the capital gains tax rate equal to the income tax rate? Raising the estate tax rate? Those things would actually help

Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan (Ohio) is going against party leaders and calling for a business friendly agenda ahead of the 2018-midterm elections.

“To be competitive globally, we have to reduce the corporate tax rate,” Ryan told The Hill in an interview from his Youngstown, Ohio, district office. “We’re just not competitive globally because of that.”

Ryan, a fast-rising Democrat from industrial Ohio, is challenging Democrats to take a different approach to big business and work with corporate America to create jobs.

“We can’t just be the party of redistribution of wealth; we need to be the party of the creation of wealth in communities all over the country, not to just Silicon Valley, not just Wall Street, but all over.”

The Democrat raised eyebrows on Capitol Hill last fall when he challenged Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for her seat as House Minority Leader. Ryan lost, but he hasn’t stopped calling for new blood to lead Democrats ahead of the 2018-midterm elections.

“There’s no better inside player than Nancy Pelosi and I don’t have any animosity towards her,” Ryan said. “I’m pretty clear that I’ve thought we probably need to go into ’18 with a different messenger whether it was me or anybody else.”

Pelosi and Democratic leaders have been in favor of policies that cut taxes for middle-class families instead of corporations. Pelosi stuck by her party’s message in a statement released Wednesday following Trump’s speech unveiling his pro-business tax proposal.

No way I want this dope anywhere near Dem Party leadership. I’m so sure cutting corporate taxes is just the ticket for helping the rest of us. Maybe he should concentrate on getting the capital gains tax rate to equal the income tax rate? Or raising the estate tax rate? Those actions actually might help everyone

The West Just Might Be Giving Up On Syrian Regime Change At Last

Conspicuously absent from the Guardian report is any mention of Israel, which has remained a very aggressive opponent of the Syrian government and its allies, particularly with regard to Iranian presence there. But even this may not be completely hopeless; according to an inside source speaking to award-winning investigative journalist Robert Parry, the Trump administration may have evolved a spine when it comes to Israel and Syria and actually be opposing Netanyahu’s obscene hawkishness in this particular respect. With Russia’s warnings and without Washington’s support, Israel may have to give up on Assad as well, at least for now.

Which would of course be fantastic. Syria is a sovereign nation and none of these other countries have any right to involve themselves in its affairs whatsoever. It’s absolutely insane that so many military forces (including those of my own country Australia) have flown halfway around the world to apply deadly force within the borders of a nation they have no business entering in the first place. Syria happens to occupy a key strategic location in the world’s resource wars, which serve only to generate profits which do not benefit ordinary citizens and to shore up geopolitical dominance for power structures that none of us give a shit about. We should all get out of there and let the nation rebuild itself.

And rebuild it will. As the Syrian government and its allies reclaim more and more territory from the terrorist factions who’ve been ravaging the country for years with the help of western interventionism, Syrians are coming back to the recaptured territories and picking up the pieces. The fact that hundreds of thousands of people have returned to Assad-controlled areas should dispel all doubt from your mind that you have been lied to about Syria by your government and by western media outlets like The Guardian. If Assad were really the child-gassing, civilian-bombing depraved bloodthirsty sadist the western media has been insisting that he is, people wouldn’t be scrambling back to him as soon as the other side suffers a defeat. You were lied to, and the return of the Syrian people proves that irrefutably.

And here’s Robert Parry’s take on it: https://consortiumnews.com/2017/08/25/the-possible-education-of-donald-trump/

While I totally, totally disagree that Bernie is a sellout, I agree that “single payer” is being mightily watered down and that’s why certain people can sign on. And I believe that most of the prez candidates will then change it to favor the insurance industry once they hold office.

From Zach Haller, quoting Physicians for a National Health Program:

Fortunately, the Physicians for a National Health Program have boldly emerged with a letter to Sanders addressing what they expect to be a glaring omission in the Medicare for All bill he is set to introduce in the coming weeks.
It begins…

August 23, 2017

Dear Senator Sanders:
We are writing to express our concern about elements of your draft single payer legislation, especially the inclusion of copayments for medically-necessary care. While your staff has not shared with us the details of the current draft, we understand from colleagues in other single-payer advocacy groups that it mandates copayments for medical services for most Americans and proposes a four-year delay before the implementation of the single-payer reform. We also understand that during the four year phase-in period, the bill would make available a public option, and provide some upgrades to and expansion of Medicare coverage.

Copayments
Copayments undermine the goal of eliminating financial barriers to care, a goal that is at the heart of our single-payer advocacy. Copayments, even relatively modest ones, deter patients from seeking needed medical care. …

grrrrrrrr

Zach is such an agitator.

But if he can do anything to reduce or, even better, eliminate co-pays, then he has my support on this!

“vegan ISIS”???? A reminder why I never watch The Daily Show anymore. Not funny, and false equivalences with the white supremacists (using video clips from Fox News no less) only helps the right and the neolibs.

polarbear4
