Obama Urged Trump To Continue Neoconservative Foreign Policy

CNN has just published the text of a letter that President Barack Obama left his successor upon leaving office, which used well-established neoconservative talking points to urge President Trump to continue the American supremacist policies of US imperialism.

The letter consists of mostly empty niceties and redundant drivel, the exception being the following paragraph, which is its only substantive piece of hard advice on policy:

Second, American leadership in this world really is indispensable. It’s up to us, through action and example, to sustain the international order that’s expanded steadily since the end of the Cold War, and upon which our own wealth and safety depend.

In 1997, the extremely influential neoconservative think tank Project for the New American Century published its Statement of Principles, which was signed by Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, Jeb Bush, Donald Kagan and other notorious members of various US war machine dynasties. The statement uses the same language as Obama’s advice to Trump, describing the need for the US to maintain a position of world leadership in a post-Cold War world. It listed four key agendas:

Increase defense spending

“Challenge regimes” that are hostile to US interests while strengthening alliances that are sympathetic to US interests

Promote political and economic freedom abroad

Accept responsibility for America’s unique role in preserving and extending international order.

I am so boring, will tackle some housework, then work on taxes today.

Unfortunately, my current employer only offers four days of work per week (I’m looking for something better atm, but I think my age may be becoming a factor, no luck so far) which means that today is a no-pay day for me.

Letter to Bernie from Margaret Flowers, et al.

We appreciate your support for Improved Medicare for All and the work that you have done to elevate the national dialogue on Improved Medicare for All. We hope to continue to work with you to make this a reality in the near future.

To that end, we are writing to share our concerns about the legislation that you are planning to introduce. These concerns are based on what we have learned about your legislation without having the benefit of reading a draft of it.

In order to maintain the cohesion and strength of the movement for Improved Medicare for All, the legislation in the senate must be in alignment with HR 676. This is important so that the movement is unified and so that the process begins from a position of asking for what we want and need, rather than starting from a position of compromise. It is the task of the movement to build political support for the legislation in Congress.

Here is a list of our concerns: [There are paragraphs following each point in the article.]

We oppose the inclusion of copayments and deductibles in an Improved Medicare for All bill.

We support a rapid transition to National Improved Medicare for All.

We support a single payer healthcare system.

We support a universal system.

We oppose inclusion of investor-owned health facilities.

The above concerns are based on what we know about your legislation at present. We do not know if they are warranted because we have not read the text. Upon reading it, there may be additional concerns.

We hope that you will share the draft text of your legislation with us and address the above concerns before it is introduced. Our support for your Improved Medicare for All legislation will depend upon whether or not it will serve as a companion to HR 676. If it is, we are ready to work in our states to build political support for it. If the above concerns are not addressed, then your bill will not be a single payer Improved Medicare for All bill and we believe it will undermine the movement for HR 676.

Allowing people to emit greenhouse gases without paying for the damage done is like allowing them to dump their sewage on their neighbor’s lawn. No one seriously argues that it is a “free market” principle that they get to dump their sewage on their neighbor’s lawn. Everyone understands that we are responsible for dealing with our own sewage and not imposing a cost on our neighbors.

It’s the same story with the greenhouse gases that cause global warming, even if the chain of causation may be somewhat more complicated. At this point, we have pretty clear evidence that the planet is warming, with the predictable bad effects like rising oceans and more severe storms. We also know that greenhouse gas emissions are the main cause.

Right now it will only hit in the area of the Leeward islands. Everything else is uncertain. That’s always been the first commandment of these storms. Retch Scott has declared a state of emergency but that’s a precaution for the counties to get coordinated if the storm hits. Irma looks like a bigger version of Andrew which is hairy in itself. She’s real compact with a very defined eye. This is the norm here–the height of the storm season. Our little krewe is ready–we’re hurricane vets. LOL. T and R and hope everyone has had a nice and safe holiday weekend!! 🙂

Labor Day was established in 1894 by President Grover Cleveland, a Democrat, as a concession to the labor movement days after he used federal troops to crush a strike by railroad workers which resulted in 30 deaths and some $80 million in property damages. Workers then, and workers now, were fighting for decent wages and working conditions and the end of human exploitation.
Today, at a time of massive income and wealth inequality and an outrageous level of corporate greed, we must never forget the struggles and ideals of those who came before us. We must continue the fight for a government and an economy that works for all, and not just the wealthy and powerful.
Labor Day is a time to remember that for hundreds of years the trade union movement in our country has led the fight for equal rights and economic and social justice. And it is a day to pledge our continuing support to protect workers’ rights which have been under fire for decades.

Haha, I think that verrit ‘card’, I gather is what that’s called, was from the spoof site. This guy includes that info in this link (it’s a good and informative article about this Verrit crap too):

The Institute of Progressive Memetics, a left-wing satirical group which recently joined Twitter, has already made a parody Verrit generator which allows anyone to create fake cards indistinguishable from the real ones. This immediately led to a deluge of Twitter comedians and trolls uploading fabricated quotes, like attributing pro-Bernie Sanders statements to Daou, who really hates the senator from Vermont.

As Verrit does not appear to have much social media functionality beyond generating the cards for later dissemination on other sites, it’s unclear how it could possibly provide “sanctuary in a chaotic media environment.” It’s more or less a link dump.

Or…it’s meant to disseminate more of the same deceptive, self-enriching, crap from Daou and his funders. We see you Daou.
