Miss “Van Gogh” – but correction to this one ” WE are the revolution”
LD – you really ARE the BEST!!!! Hope you’re not too stressed out about TPW, we are all patient about OUR site 🙂

Demeter Rising

I like the Van Gogh better too. All that white space is killing me but some folks like the clean minimal look. I’ll keep tinkering with colors and themes. Thanks for the patience and suggestions everyone. Keep em coming.

Bernie backers are more than young idealists

Keene Sentinel LTE – Keene, New Hampshire

There have been a number of statements and comments that it is mainly the younger members of society who are attracted to Bernie Sanders and his message. Many, many older adults and senior citizens, women and men, are proud Bernie supporters.

His views and plans are right on: public financing of elections; fighting childhood poverty; curbing Wall Street and the big banks that brought about our recent recession; rebuilding the nation’s deteriorated infrastructure; welcoming immigrants with a path to citizenship; free education in public colleges; taxing those who have avoided paying their fair share; health insurance for all citizens; a living wage; no disenfranchisement.

Bernie’s ability to raise millions of dollars through small donations, his growing support from beginning as a virtually unknown Democratic Socialist from the tiny state of Vermont and his clear, encompassing platform has gained followers among all ages across the nation.

Of course he will support Hillary Clinton in the November election. I applaud his continuing the messages he espouses and I hope the Democratic Party’s platform and general election strategy will incorporate many of his policy ideas.

spooks51

We must continue to fight for Bernie’s policies. We must also fight for fair and open elections.

LoneStarMike

I posted this LTE in Toby’s Diary, but it’s just too good not to post in this one, too. It’s a bit long, but it just sums up how I feel about the Clintonoids. It’s Also fromthe Keene Sentinel in Keene, New Hampshire.

The other side of this Sanders coin (Bolding is mine)

Following the California primary, George Duncan of Peterborough could not wait to express his scathing contempt for the Sanders campaign. Celebrating his candidate’s win was not enough, for him. No, he had to mock Bernie Sanders, and dismiss his credentials, his vision and his campaign platforms.

Even that did not satisfy him. He went on to make fun of the youth vote, those wonderful newcomers to politics who were smart enough to recognize that their American Dream was dead — killed by the hands of politics-as-usual in do-nothing, incremental-change Washington. He said, specifically, that “Kids love a revolution.”

Well, Mr. Duncan, this “kid” — I am 58 years old — wonders why the Clinton camp and its rabid supporters believe this level of arrogance, insult and mockery will convince any of us to support your candidate. It is an ongoing theme with Clinton supporters to go right to the name calling, right to the arrogant dismissal of any opinion but their own, and then ask for our support.

I’m not at all sorry to tell George Duncan that nothing in his letter of June 9 convinced me to back his dirty, dirty horse. Reading his letter merely reinforced, to me, what a terrible candidate she is, and what cheap shots her supporters would cheerfully stoop to. I’m equally confident he did not convince any one of the millions of new voters to switch their support to HRC — when he got done insulting them, I’m sure they said, “This tired old party is not for me.”

Mr. Duncan summed up his disgust with Bernie Sanders by saying “… ask Bernie to let go of the bone, stop screwing with the party process, and join the effort to take down the grotesque candidacy of Donald Trump.”

What if I told you, Mr. Duncan, that I don’t find the Trump candidacy any more grotesque than the Clinton candidacy? What if I told you these former friends look to me to be equally dangerous, and cut from very similar cloth? They both have huge egos. They both have lots of money, and many very wealthy friends. They both have close ties to Wall Street. Donald Trump has made racist statements, but so has Hillary Clinton, in the past. Neither one of them has a single black friend, excepting Hillary’s sudden new best friend, Barack Obama. The only Latinos they know are their gardeners and cooks. And Hillary Clinton is far more prone to continued military intervention all over the globe, from what my research shows. They are both highly insulated from the end results of bad decisions they make, or might make. In some respects, I find Hillary Clinton to be the most evil choice, the one most likely to bring America further to its knees.

The primary is the party process, Mr. Duncan. We are supposed to choose our candidates in each and every primary. Progressive values are not pie-in-the-sky, nor foolish … they are the hallmark of a mature and educated society, one in which everyone seeks a fair playbook, a level playing field. Finally, it wasn’t only kids supporting Bernie Sanders. At every volunteer event I attended, the baby boomers showed up in force.

I want you to know, Mr. Duncan, that it really isn’t Bernie Sanders you are angry with, and it really isn’t him you’re frightened of. It’s me — because I represent millions of “Bernie-or-Bust” voters who meant what they said when they said they would not vote for Hillary Rodham Clinton. Ever, under any circumstances. Insulting us, disparaging our opinions and choices, will not change that. It will further alienate us, and may drive more than a few of us to vote for your worst nightmare.

In closing, I’d like to quote a popular meme circulating amongst us on the Internet.

“I will not sit down, I will not shut up, and I will not comply. I am an American, and I am sick of the corruption in D.C.”

We are Sanders supporters still.

LoneStarMike

And I liked the second to the last sentence so much, I had to make a graphic

Caerus

Great graphic – would change last letters to “D.N.C.”

dear occupant

Man, I would buy THAT Tee shirt in a heartbeat! …hint, hint

occupystephanie

Mike, this is fantastic!

CaliforniaPat

Exactly my sentiments! Well said. I am 77 years old and a woman and a proud Bernie supporter who will not be voting for that woman in the Fall. Thanks, Mike, been missing your newspaper additions since I let TOP.

la58

Thanks Mike, for posting the LTE’s here. I’m done with TOP.

occupystephanie

Wow. Thinking that it is our passion that multiplies our voices and moves our message. Our willingness to do more will bring us even more success!

Fleur de Lisa

This 53 year old kid agrees!

Hollyanna

As does the 67 year old kid. Bernie made me young!

Jacquelynn Booth

Another 67 yr patriot signing on!

TheLeftistheCenter

I am torn on which would be the better choice for President, for though I believe Trump is less likely to start a war or support TPP (though he still may do both), I think Hillary is more likely to be influenced by the Bernie movement and even if she doesn’t, then she will demonstrate to more Dems how lost their party has become.

After the convention I am probably going to write a diary on this concept, laying out the options and the likely ramifications to see what others think, but want to see what happens there to have a better picture of where we really stand.

CaliforniaPat

I am not voting for her and will probably vote for Trump, only because he has the best chance to beat her. Voting for third party or writing Bernie in, would be almost like throwing my vote away. I do not think Trump will be worse than Clinton, plus if she wins, I think the GOP will immediately start impeachment proceedings against her for her email server and/or the Clinton Foundation conflict of interest as SOS. Plus, he is less of a hawk than she is, she will take us to WW3.

TheLeftistheCenter

I must admit I disagree and don’t see Hillary starting an actual World War and if and anything see Trump as more likely to screw the pooch in such a colossal manner, albeit very unlikely, where Hillary is very likely to continue or expand our micro-wars.

phatkhat

Expanding the “micro-war” in Syria could easily lead to a world war. Look at the small act that lit the fuse for WWI.

TheLeftistheCenter

Though I see your point I have a real hard time using WWI for today’s world, for it was a war mainly of monarchies and even WWII was really just WWI Part II from the absurd terms of the Treaty of Versailles.

Jacquelynn Booth

Hillary’s got to have war(s) because she has no domestic policies. Gotta look like she’s spending all that money on something, so it goes to MIC and warlords like Gen Whorefucker Betrayus.

nomandates

There’s no way in hell that I’m voting for Trump.

Too many voters underestimated the damage that Ronald Reagan and George W Bush could do, and I’m not going to do the same with Trump.

TheLeftistheCenter

I wouldn’t either, but even a modest movement against her will likely end up being for him, so if we can’t really make a 3rd party candidate competitive, we have to see it as an either/or option.

If the goal is the movement and the best way to get value from it is through Hillary then we have to consider that, not to say that it is, but it could be.

Jacquelynn Booth

Elect her if you must, but then impeach & convict on spy charges with interface of her email requiring SofS to disconnect security programs to allow her home brew emails to get thru. Most decidedly illegal & opens her to possible blackmail over nondisclosure emails she sent. I used to do fed security clearance investigations. She couldn’t pass one to enter Los Alamos Natl Lab, in my opinion. Put her lying ass in jail!

dear occupant

Good Morning LD and fellow Berners.

“We want to recognize a person who has inspired an entire nation’ followed by a standing ovation for Bernie Sanders.

Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve felt this proud of a candidate I supported, not afraid to admit it kinda made me tear up a bit. I am very much looking forward to his upcoming town hall speech in NY, wish I could be there.

And lastly, LD, TPW has never looked better than it does today. Easy on the eyes, clean and uncluttered, navigable and my favorite banner so far. Thank you and Demeter Rising for all your dedication and hard work, it shows and I am very grateful.

phatkhat

I like this banner best, too. Blue for progressive and green for environmental. It doesn’t get better! And I like the uncluttered minimalist look as well.

LoneStarMike

Philly DNC organizers: What are you hiding?

Philadelphia Inquirer – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

You know who just doesn’t get it? The elites of the Democratic Party, especially here in Philadelphia. The raging fire of big-money corruption continues to burn around a party that claims to be the voice of the American working class, just like that internet meme with the dog clutching his coffee mug as the walls of the cafe blaze all around him.

[…]

Rendell, meanwhile, understands the political process of kneeling down before millionaires and billionaires so well that he was the obvious choice to chair the host committee for the Democratic National Committee, the folks tasked with raising the big corporate bucks — some $65 million, or so they say — to stage the DNC at the Wells Fargo Center in late July.

How’s that going? Not great, apparently. But we don’t know for sure, because the DNC host committee is refusing to make public the names of the corporations and wealthy individuals who’ll be paying for the staging of the Hillary Clinton Show. The latest is that the Rendell-chaired group will release its spending report — 60 days after the circus has left town.
[…]

Which is why even a small nod toward openness by the host committee would go a long way. In the wreckage of the Fattah case (the last in a string of convictions and indictments of Philadelphia and Pennsylvania Democrats, by the way), Rendell and his fellow bigwigs are hoping to shield their dealings with the 1 Percent through what’s always worked in the past: Sheer arrogance.

So, Ed Rendell, you want us to believe you when you say all politicians aren’t bad or evil? It’s really not that hard. Show us the money!

Oprah & Hillary

Raggedy Ann

Okay, I have to say this. Every damn time I see hrc pointing at “someone” in the audience that way, I want to scream! Is that sexist? Screaming?

CaliforniaPat

I do not think it is sexist, Raggedy Ann. It annoys me also and I am a woman. I think because she is so phony. Everything she does is scripted and rehearsed, including this damn pointing thing with her fake smile.

Jacquelynn Booth

Screaming sounds therapeutic. My neighbor, a R who would vote for Bernie if he got the nomination, has to literally change channels when Hillary Rat-fucking Clinton gives out that laugh! Have heard same from various others.
Listen, if Hillary or the Don win, they’ll be in fed prison inside a year, impeached w/in 6 months – both by the R’s!!! We just gotta hang on, and I suggest pray for Guccifer 2.0! Keep your cool. I’ve made it thru Nixon, Kennedy assassination, way too damn many Shrubs, Rove’s shadow govt, the potatoe VP, God Bless Jimmy Carter, sexy Bill, and turncoat Barack. Plus Gov Jindal and more corrupt state politics than most. I “vote(d) for the Crook” Edwin Edwards for gov when he ran against the KKK Grand Whatsis. Some of our better LA crooks are still in fed enforced “vacation spas.”. And we are sending more. We will get thru this, too. But where is our next Molly Ivens?

jcitybone

Great to see Bernie campaigning with Eric Kingston in Syracuse! Looking forward to much more of this. Go Berniecrats!

jcitybone

Oops Kingson not Kingston. That’s another upstate NY city haha

Raggedy Ann

Good morning, my friends!

First and foremost, we got rain yesterday and most importantly, the fire got rain. I saw vans with the hot shots leaving. I’ll bet they slept well last night. I applauded them as they drove past my house. Many thanks to all of you in this with me.

It’s so great to see people fighting to enact policies that benefit the population. This is Bernie’s goal and we are beginning to witness some successes. This is what the establishment fears. Like the article posted by Mike above, they fear you and me – the voters. We have been disparaged into oblivion, which is why we will never vote hrc. We will work against her to enact Bernie’s policies, one step at a time. We can and will enjoy many “wins” as we come together as progressives to enact a more fair agenda to help all of us.

Although I’m happy Bernie was applauded on the House floor, I’m concerned about the van on people on the no fly list. Let’s say I wanted to buy a gun and I was on that list in error. How is that okay to discriminate against me for their mistake. Where is the courage to ban assault weapons? Where is the courage to ban all but single shot guns? Where is the courage to do the right thing?

Unfortunately I went to the BNR in TOP, yesterday after a three week hiatus. Now I remember why I can’t go back. The devil on my right shoulder jabs me into becoming a nasty person – responding with equal nastiness to the trolls. That’s not the person I am in real life. I do not want to be that person behind my keyboard, either. They can have their site all to themselves. Thank you for creating this space for us, Liepar!

Have a beautiful day, sisters and brothers!

chasingorion

{{{RA}}}
Just a visit to the BNR and I came back here unusually snarky and filled with fight–so I get it. You are not alone!

Raggedy Ann

That thumbs down is too close to replying! I hit it in error! Anyway, it’s bad over there, right, chasing? I turn into someone I don’t recognize and walk away in knots. Not good!! I’m steering clear! 🙂

chasingorion

His zeroness is back in there dropping turds. I was gonna say something negative and just recced a bunch of stuff and encouraged folks to fly to the nest when they needed peace and beauty. Though the comments are still not in full force so if you can just do a drive by. Ughh, gotta get my and wait for you back here? I’ll have more hugs for you 🙂

cup of nope.png
Raggedy Ann

I can’t do it, chasingorion. I actually clicked on nomandates link above and my body recoiled when the site popped up. I hit the back button as fast as I could to be back in my safe nest. WHEW, that was close. 🙂

chasingorion

{{{{RaggedyAnn}}}}
Stay here nice and safe!! Feather the nest 😉

Raggedy Ann

Thank you!!!

grapevines

I went over and R&T for both of us RA..stay safe here and sane..you’ve went thru enough recently with the fire, no need to subject yourself too more trauma.
(((Ann)))

Raggedy Ann

You are so kind, grapevines!!! 🙂

orlbucfan

I head over TOP cos of Don midwest, bobswern, the environmental info, Darksyde’s science stuff, the nature diaries and the woozle ones. I have never been bojo’d. That’s cos I don’t do diaries, and I skip the idiots. It’s a cinch to avoid the trolls. They all have usernames I’ve never heard before. I’m glad the NM fires are dying down, RA!! They are getting major slammed in So. CA.

LD: I really love this site. I wish i knew how to take that Birdie image and make it my avatar (I think that’s the right term for that little picture area to the upper left of a comment). There are a boatload of artistic variations on the Bernster Birdie posted now. I would love to makeone my pic. 🙂

Raggedy Ann

Do it, orl. Get the birdie avatar. I love it, too!

Yes, I know about the fires in CA. Many more people at risk there – so awful! We dodged a bullet on this one.

I’m happy you can still manage to go over there. I’m too feisty to keep my damn mouth shut!

Jacquelynn Booth

Bullies cannot bully you if you stay out their reach. Cut the cord. They’re paid $, I expect, probably by the word. All you get is bad digestion. Don’t let bullies profit from your honest desire to build unity. That’s not what bullies do. They hurt others on purpose.
You’re New Mexico? Oh, how I love that state! Be safe. Ya ta hey! (Or whatever. Long time ago)

nomandates

Good morning, Birdies! And thank you as always, LieparDestin, for the BNR.

Here’s the link to the BNR at DK: http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2016/6/23/1541628/-Bernie-News-Roundup-Sanders-Joins-the-House-Sit-In

We actually had some productive dialogue in yesterday’s BNR, but we’ll see how today’s goes.

Hope everyone has a great day!

peachpi

Yikaroozies, I just watched Fox for news… I got seriously distracted by all that hair and makeup and skin on the female reporters. Those shoes, did you see the heels on those things? I live in Vermont and don’t even have a place I could wear those even if I could walk in them, but I digress… Thanks for the link, I am very concerned at the level of incompetence HRC has shown with this whole email/server fiasco..

peachpi

whoops, meant to respond to @Caerus below, like I said, distracted by shoes etc.

nomandates

Thanks for clarifying that! 🙂

Caerus

peachpi – chuckling! I notice the clothes & the Dangling Earrings! Used to coach women in public speaking – 1st rule, Don’t let the clothes, earrings get more attention then YOU get! No dangle earrings! Cracks me up when I see Her-Eminence-in-Waiting( h/t to Alligator Ed at C99%) and the concoctions she ( or her dresser) put together! She looks to me like she’s trying to disguise herself as a fancy/schmancy ToadStool! Literally, those long, flared coats (can’t call them jackets) over pants. Bad enough I feel sorry for her. I lived in Washington DC for years – you’d laugh if you saw the “costumes” – of course, now pant suits – but back then, suits, pencil skirts, heels ( esp. Nancy Pelosi, she’s very short & wore HIGH HIGH heels..you’d hear her well b4 you saw her in the halls…clop, clop, clop) Uniform included, always, a gold brooch eagle clutching a pearl, left shoulder lapel.

I’m now thriving living a very quiet life in very rural western MA – more rural then southern parts of VT. But similar. Many organic farms, CSA’s, eco conscious people, very informal, natural Keen shoes are as dressed as I get. So I really get what you’re saying about watching those women on TV. For me, it’s the voices – nasal, honking ( as if reporting a sports event) and LOUD! Definitely the reason the Goddesses created mute buttons. 🙂

phatkhat

You live in Vermont? Lucky you! We’d love to move there, but it is expensive compared to Arkansas. I love winter. I hardly go out now – so hot and humid I can’t even breathe.

peachpi

Grew up in Western Mass which is almost the same as where I am in Southern VT but nevertheless, when my husband and I moved across the border I felt like I was defecting!

LoneStarMike

And then there’s this . . .

Drama in DC as Hillary Clinton picks lobbyists and fundraisers to be delegates over DC elected officials

chasingorion

Karma’s something, no?

Raggedy Ann

Can anyone possibly be surprised by this? She IS herself, after all. Those hoping to be on her good side now find themselves sidelined. Go hrc!!

also fascinating that Faux News is doing the best coverage. It has come to this, we have to get the news from Faux news!!!! Grrr…..
also, Alligator Al has a fabulous imagination: Medusa, Her Eminence-in-Waiting. You’ll love it!

Raggedy Ann

Caerus – I cracked up at Alligator Al’s essay. Hilarious and spot on. Faux news – for honest reporting on the travails of hrc. LOL!!

spooks51

I can’t believe I just watched a Fox “News” video. What has happened to all the real journalists? I am sorry to say it but both Mrs. Clinton and Trump are grifters in my opinion.

Raggedy Ann

Absolutely!!!

Today’s The Progressive Wing stats from Alexa

TPW is a hatchling still pipping and still we are growing!

chasingorion

Ha, so Richard (RJ) Eskow in the Bernie has Leverage video said at about 4:40 something like:

[the People’s Summit is] unlike Netroots Nation, which became more of a Democratic Party Process

and went on to say that DeMoro is correct in that ‘an election is not a movement but a moment in a movement’ so it is important to be in it but not of it!

Hartmann (@5:25 or so) added that he quit DailyKos because there was lots of talking but nothing seems to happen

:0 OM over there is probably going apeshit! I’m half tempted to write something–but I won’t because they don’t deserve the clicks!!

or the costs of investigating her private server, maybe?

Fleur de Lisa

Love the new banner with the blue and green!

I don’t see this posted anywhere yet – Bernie has an op-ed on the washington post site.
Bernie Sanders: Here’s what we want.

Not me, us! Naturally most of the comments are rude and dismissive, but his statement of what we stand for is clear as a bell.

Fleur de Lisa

Sorry – figured out how to link, but not how to end it 🙁

ETA – now I’ve got it! Steep learning curve here.

polarbear4

“… and he left shortly after Clinton didn’t attend the protest, ”

I wonder if the author forgot a period following “after.” This sounds like he waited to see if Clinton was coming, and left when he saw that she wasn’t. I doubt that was the case.

Raggedy Ann

Fantastic! Is there somewhere to view the speech?

Raggedy Ann

Is there a link to his speech anywhere? He is so very awesome!!!

TheLeftistheCenter

I have ben resigned to Bernie not being the nominee for quite some time now (pretty much since NY), but for as much as I wanted him to be the nominee, I have been far more about the Revolution.

Some years back under my old id at Blue State I asked how do we get all the energy and dissatisfaction displayed by OWS into a coherent movement and no one had an answer, but today we know Bernie is that answer.

I think Bernie will end up being the most influential politician of the modern era and probably the most influential non-president in American history second only to Franklin. I believe Hilary and her supporters in a way know this and if anything this is what they hate about him the most, that he will end up being more important than Hillary will be even as the President.

Raggedy Ann

Good thoughts, TLitC.

chasingorion

Ironic and powerful. HRC’s victory–if it comes–will be even more Pyrrhic than it is now.

chiplazarus

LOVE the interview with RoseAnn DeMoro! I had no idea who she is and how smart and articulate she is. SUCH a loss to the platform of the DNC that she was not approved.

Meanwhile, her insight is terrifying: “[HRC] is moving to the right” and courting lost-sheep GOP voters who can’t countenance Mr. Trump.

Bern_So_Good

Great round up, LD!

I’m wondering what others think of changing the title font of posts to black (from blue) and the background of the post to white from the light purplish-blue. It may just be my compromised eye sight (or the fact I spend a lot of time on the computer) but I find the current colors on the title font and background of posts really difficult to read. Thoughts?

polarbear4

I like the idea of a lightly tinted background, at least to try. not sure of what color yet. Fun to see all these different try-outs. :O)
