Nice! Thanks Benny.

trubludude

Thank you Benny. Getting outta work soon to go home and watch!

LoneStarMike

Well, I read that DWS isn’t even going to gavel in the convention as she had planned. That’s really too bad. I was looking forward to it because it would have been The Boo Heard ‘Round The World.

DWS Booed

Eagles92

These talking heads on CNN are ridiculous. They’re all spewing rationalizations and platitudes and what, frankly, sound like completely pulled-out-of-their-collective-asses “statistics” about how “90 percent of Bernie voters will vote for Hillary.”

They’re DESPERATE to push the unity narrative.

I’ll be here for the gavel then need to step for an hour or so. Will rejoin the commentary when I’m back in front of the screen. Thanks for starting a fresh one!

Josh

“90 percent of Bernie voters will vote for Hillary.”

Funny. The actual numbers are closer to 60 or 70 percent. Pew Research put it at close to 75 percent. That’s still a far cry from what is coming from CNN.

new2this

From NPR:

Plenty of Sanders supporters do support Clinton now that he has dropped out of the race; a late-June poll from Reuters-Ipsos, for example, found that 40 percent of Sanders supporters said they would vote for Clinton. Another Bloomberg poll found it around 55 percent. Still, that leaves potentially around half of his supporters who told pollsters they couldn’t aid Clinton in her campaign against Trump.

Was listening to Robin Young on Here & Now this morning, and she was being surprisingly fair in her reporting about the Bernie protesters.

I wonder what the polling would show now, after the DNC email leaks and Hillary’s VP pick.

Eagles92

Oh, boo-hoo, now poor Jake Tapper is wringing his hands over the “mean” boos that DWS got this morning.

I may have to find a different outlet to watch.

OzoneTom

Yeah Jake, we already saw the DNC email asking if they should send you the questions to ask for a Clinton interview.

Eagles92

The protesters outside Wells Fargo Center is getting larger and more vocal as more delegates enter the building. I do hope Bernie’s delegates pay more attention to them than Bernie’s entreaty that they/we vote for Hillary.

Josh

Do you know (roughly) how many there are? None of the news sources seem to have a crowd estimate, although they keep saying that “thousands” of protestors are there, which is extremely ambiguous. I’ve read on sites that Philadelphia is expecting 50,000 protestors (or so) on some sites and on another I saw the figure of 200,000 being floated around although its possible that number was exaggerated.

I am glad to see that people are protesting the relentless pro Clinton BS festival that is the Democratic convention though.

Eagles92

I unfortunately don’t know the number, and nothing I’ve heard is consistent, either. I’m going to spend some time later trying to find some live feeds to see if I can get a better sense. Still, from the time CNN first showed the protesters outside the WFC, and now, the crowd had grown significantly.

occupystephanie

We have one guy outside but he is having trouble getting online.

new2this

NPR was reporting this morning that it was significantly more than those who showed up to protest the RNC Convention. Someone mentioned that they thought that might have been due to the timing of the Dallas shooting scaring off a lot of likely protesters. I don’t know about that but I’ll bet it’s blowing a lot of minds right now that there are more people protesting the DNC/Hillary than were there to protest Donald Trump.

Eagles92

LOL! “Tomorrow will be a whole new day.” As if the protests are going to die down.

And, more than once, they’re trying to say the protesters aren’t representative of Bernie’s supporters.

Heads in the sand much?

polarbear4

Thanks for starting a new one! (eek! why did i think i’d get a lot done today? haha)

LoneStarMike

grapevines

these are great…my stomach already queasy just thinking about it..you’ve really captured it LSM.

KayCeSF

Geesh. Glory Hallelujah, HIS TRUTH IS MARCHING ON! Really?
Can we not get some new music? It’s 2016 for crying out loud.
I don’t think I can stomach this convention. I’ll wait until I can hear Bernie in video.

Josh

NVPainter

Well, maybe we can’t let Republicans think they’re more patriotic than we are. Which they always do, you know. Even if an awful lot of them have never read the Constitution they’re so fond of referring to… okay, don’t get me started. Stepping off the soapbox….

KayCeSF

LOL! I have been putting off writing much because I fear I am stepping onto my own soapbox. It’s hard not to want to scream from the mountaintop about everything going on.

Josh

Wow! I didn’t know the true meaning of a “progressive who gets things done” was someone who supports the TPP, right to work laws, fast tracking fracking, and coal power!

These tweets should be filed under ‘Democratic Party reeducation’ to train future Liars for Her. The truth is the lie. The lie is the truth. Hillary/Kaine 2016!

LoneStarMike

With apologies to Dr. Pepper:

HRC Dr. Pepper

NVPainter

Rather an insult, isn’t it?

But HC describes herself as a progressive because conservatives made “liberal” a dirty word. I guess, just as they redefined “liberal,” she’s trying to redefine “progressive.”

Josh

CNN goes to reporter covering protests outside convention. Reporter says Bernie people and associated protestors are trying to block the delegates from entering the convention by lying on the ground and forming a human barricade. 5 seconds later Jake Tapper panics and cuts off to coverage of “Boyz II men” performing MOTOWNPHILLY inside convention.

realdasein

Wow! 1968 convention replay. I sure hope we don’t get Nixon out of this. Hillary = Hubert Humphrey. (Not in terms of process, just in terms of being the weaker Dem candidate chosen by the establishment.)

LoneStarMike

Hillary IS Nixon

HRC Nixon

The Republicans already have a commercial comparing her to Nixon

realdasein

Umm… perhaps, but not by the current Republican “we randomly compare anyone to that nice Mister Hilter” standard. Sorry if I don’t check with Reputard ads before I share my opinion from a brief 240-year analysis. Hillary is the 1968 Hubert Humphrey, not Nixon. In my loose comparison.

NVPainter

Oh, I hope you’re wrong. But it seems like a fair analogy.

grapevines

Now the lady Reverend is giving the invocation…would be better if she was performing an exorcism. Now she’s thanking god for HRC…crowd goes wild and loudly chants Bernie Bernie Bernie

I have a feeling this whole thing is going too be a mess.

Next up..the Pledge of Allegiance…what could go wrong there??? right

polarbear4

LOL!

Josh

CNN lists Bernie a “former Presidential candidate” when he has still not officially left the race. Meanwhile, during their roundtable of know nothing Poohbahs the crowd starts chanting something like “BERNIE! BERNIE!” Tapper cuts to the floor just as the chanting stops and wonders if it may have been “a moment of unity”.

What a farce.

YTY Livefeed

Sybil Liberty

Wonder what the everso regal Marcia Fudge thought was going to happen when she took the mic, with that lead?

new2this

I’m loving the TYT live stream – Cenk’s commentary and insight is really helpful. Thanks for posting the link!

occupystephanie

Tried to access this and was told it was “private”.

Eagles92

I’m getting the same message? Frustrating as I really can’t tolerate CNN.

grapevines

wow..the Young Turks must have put restrictions on it..it was there before. 🙁

sorry folks

new2this

No, there are no restrictions. Everyone should try the YouTube link again, it should work: https://youtu.be/zmDJdJJ8MsI

Chaddiwicker

Here’s the link to the live stream on YouTube.

belle de jour

thanks!

grapevines

Does anyone know if any of Bernie’s delegates have been challenged by the Credentials Committee and are not being their badges or allowed in?

It happened to Howard Dean’s delegates.
YTY just reported that 2 Sanders delegates were stripped of their credentials by the Credentials Committee and not allowed in.

Cen is also blown away that the crowd is booing at every mention of Clinton’s name.

KayCeSF

LOL! The “Credentials Committee.”

belle de jour

You need a certified certificate from the Ministry of Silly Walks in order to reach your state delegation on the floor.

LieparDestin

Hello everyone! Off work and ready to liveblog!

Fudge gets big boos when mentioning Clinton.

‘A different kind of convention than cleveland. Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine (booooooooooooooo) want to build (booooooooooooooooooo). the economy (boooooooo)….

They will work with out allies to keep the world safe and secure.

Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine (booooooo)

It is going to be a long night!

grapevines

Thanks LD I keep losing my livefeeds and have been booted off my lappie 4 times trying too watch it…I’ll follow along with you here..thank you so much!

LieparDestin

I just put up a post with the pbs stream for easy access. I’ll start typing a bit more as the night goes on!

grapevines

Oh bless your heart @Liepardestin 🙂 🙂

LieparDestin

Fudge:

“Over the next 4 days we are going to unite and we are going to make history, and we are going to do everything we can to elect Hillary Clinton & Tim Kaine. Hillary Clinton this is your time. This is our time.

Let the convention begin.

May I just make a point. There are many who do not know me in this room, but let me say to you I intend to be fair. I intend to hear your opinions, I will be respectful of you and want you to be respectful of me.

We are all Democrats and we need to act like it.

The rules of the convention allow me as chair to appoint other officers to allow orderly conduct of the proceedings.

(Names chairs)….

magsview

Well, at least she didn’t ask that no chairs be thrown..

elmo

Backstage, HIllary must be beaming. She’s been telling us it’s “her time, goddamit!” for at the last 10 years.

Josh

There are hundreds of delegates holding anti TPP signs. Unity lasted about 5 minutes at the convention.

magsview

grapevines

OMG!!! and am so glad Hunter S. Thompson could make it!!! hehe

new2this

LOVE IT!!

polarbear4

I just keep booing. Glad to see a Bernie supporter.

I’ll have to step out, so that will save me. So we think Bernie and Nina will be 7ish, PST.

LieparDestin

The excitement grows when Bernie’s name is mentioned.

Maine state rep Diane Russell peaking who introduced the SD amendment:

“Dumbledore once said, it takes great courage to stand up to your enemies. It takes even greater courage to stand up to your friends. Working to get a president elected is supposed to be hard work but we can definately do more as a party to guarantee a fairer, more open process that places everyday voters at the center.

It is what our voters expect, and it is what our party deserves. It is why I am so deeply honored to be here on behalf of Sen Bernie Sanders and the political revolution (big cheers) in strong, unequivocal support for the unity compromise. This plan gives us an opportunity to champion great election reforms, including reducing SuperDelegates by 2/3. . That is written right into the commissions charter.

I want to be clear, we did not win this by selling out. We won this by standing up. By standing together.”

Josh

Bernie Sanders is not a traitor and he is not a sellout. Those who say he is, do not know what they are talking about.

occupystephanie

He knows how things work and how we can go forward!

Star Strider

Bernie is quite definitely not a sellout. He is a sitting Senator who caucuses with the Democrats and who has constituents to represent. He has to make at least a show of ‘unity’ to be effective. He is almost infinitely more powerful and effective that he was before he ran for President, and I believe he’s going to do everything he can to make the most of that for all Berniecrats as well. Bernie always said that the Revolution was never about him, something all of us know instinctively. Bernie truly has made history, is likely not finished, and she-who-must-not-be-named will be but an asterisk.

After the fire is lit, the match is irrelevant. Bernie is the match, we are the fuel, and we will continue to ‘bern’ (I couldn’t resist) as long as we need to.

polarbear4

We did this by STANDING UP!

polarbear4

the downtrodden! the working class! wooooo hooooooo!

Sybil Liberty

Bernie has obviously left a mark…

“Not. For. Sale.”

is a great convention chant for all disenfranchised Dems in attendance

polarbear4

This is what democracy looks like. Right now in the hall, yeah.

The “nominee”? Not so much.

polarbear4

unity schmunity outa here to get at least a little done before nina and the bernster.

LieparDestin

Russell:

The fight to reform the SD system was never about this election, it was always about democratizing our party for generations to come.

It may be hard and it may be messy, but this is what Democracy looks like!

(This is what democracy looks like!)
(This is what democracy looks like!)
(This is what democracy looks like!)

In the end, I stand with my Democratic family in making sure we win this fall. Paul LePage is my governor I do not need to see anyone like him become president of this United States. Whether you support Bernie Sanders or Hillary Clinton we are all in this together and we will all have a voice in the Clinton administration. We can work together on so much and despite any differences we may hold a Trump presidency would hurt our people and I am not ok with that. I will always stand strong with Bernie Sanders, and I will also do everything I can do this fall to elect Hillary so we have a Democrat in the White House.

LieparDestin

Josh

Where are the firings?

LieparDestin

(posted in wrong place… but I’ll leave em!)

NVPainter

Well, it’s better than the “nopologies” that came out first….

Josh

Delegates start chanting “No TPP!” during Representative Cumming’s speech as he talks about the platform’s job benefits. Several minutes later they’re still chanting it.

Josh

Now the live-stream cuts to pro platform propaganda, drowning out the increasingly loud “No TPP!” chants. Amazing.

Star Strider

Toby — Do you know any sources for NO TPP buttons, and car magnets (red circle with a red slash over ‘TPP’)? I want to wear it under my Jill/Bernie buttons, and put the magnet on my car.

Josh

No.

LieparDestin

If you are taking a shot everytime someone tells you there will be unity… you are probably drunk already so you can stop now!

Cummings is currently getting drowned out by No TPP chants and the signs are up all over the place.

polarbear4

Yayyyyyy.

LoneStarMike

And Cummings was also talking about the Democrats being the party fighting for voting rights. What good are voting rights when your votes don’t get counted?

I think I may have to run to the liquor store. I think I need something I can put in my iced coffee and Malibu Rum just won’t cut it.

LieparDestin

Since its still a bit early and theres a ways to to go I am Going to eat and take care of a couple things around the house before the other speakers begin doing their thing! Thanks for being here everyone! See you shortly!

Josh

Democrats are “standing on the shoulders of giants”

Yes… giants like all those corporate sponsors whose mega donations you people aren’t disclosing.

grapevines

If any Bernie Delegates were going to try and get the STOP THE TPP in too the party Platform…now is the time to take the mic and bring up a Minority Report….I so wish it would happen even if it got voted down, as it surely would be.

grapevines

sorry Ben, HRC won’t be closing any private prisons…filled with people for minor drug busts..they were a big$$ donor to her campaign.

NO NO NOOOOOOO HILLARY

grapevines

New York coifed Lady Rep “I’m here To nominate our first ‘hipster’ President”….hipster, who would that be???

Star Strider

As an anti-war protester in the 1960s in high school (not popular since we were then living within a few miles of the Pentagon) I regarded ‘Goldwater Girls’ with nothing but intense and well-deserved contempt.

HRC was an enthusiastic ‘Goldwater Girl’. ‘Hipster’ she definitely was not.

NVPainter

Hipster? Huh?

Okay, they don’t know the meaning of the word “progressive,” either.

occupystephanie

Found this when I went looking for info about where Oregon is on the floor. Answer: NOT on the floor. Up in the nosebleed area with all the other states that voted for Bernie.

http://freebeacon.com/politics/will-no-bernie-sanders-delegates-dnc-convention-floor/

Josh

Up in the nosebleed area with all the other states that voted for Bernie.

That’s where all the Bernie people are?

No wonder the floor is flooded with Hillary supporters.

Star Strider

At least the Coloradans are acclimated!

NVPainter

Wow. Verrrry interesting.

LieparDestin

Tina Kotek:

“As the first lesbian speaker of any statehouse in our nation, I have personally witnessed the tremendous progress for the lgbtq community. We have come so far and we cannot go back. I am known for telling it like it is, and I am with Hillary because she is with me. “

Chaddiwicker

A righteous rant:

Josh

Bless her heart.

LieparDestin

I want to go find a double thumbs up widget just for this video!

belle de jour

Thank you for posting. I would go to church & back with this woman, any day of the week.

IowanX

Everybody, you should have C-SPAN on your cable someplace. [Search!} No commercials, No Talking Heads. Please consider this a Public Service Announcement. Nobody should have to listen to Wolf Blitzer, unless they want to.

LieparDestin

I’m watching the cspan.org stream myself. Not a single issue so far!

Josh

John Podesta: “Hillary will take on powerful special interests and a rigged system!”

HILLARY will take on the special interests and RIGGED system! HILLARY CLINTON WILL TAKE ON SPECIAL INTERESTS OH MY GOD, WHAT AM I LISTENING TO

NO ONE believes that Wall Street backed, oil and gas company backed, AIPAC backed, big AG backed, healthcare industry backed, drug industry backed, Time Warner backed, TPP supporting, PROMESA supporting, fracking supporting, HILLARY CLINTON is going to take on a rigged system. LOL!

LieparDestin
belle de jour

(Fun fact: there are a ton of journalists – esp. ones I know in NYC and SF – who swear by the dmUK. For some reason yet to be discovered, they often have substantive, more accurate numbers & facts – especially in breaking stories, incl. breaking US stories – that nobody here has access to yet. Their gossip is the usual craptastic, but journos check them even before the nat. wires.)

tocino

Fucking Cory Booker will not shut up ! They should cut people’s mics at 10 minutes for everyone’s sake. Brain deadening stuff, should not be allowed, Bullshit.

belle de jour

Not sure you meant to reply to my last post about the dmUK (?), but I’m game for your comment:

Cory Booker is beloved by Wall Street. Check out his donation sources.

(Plus, I agree his too-long, lame imitation of a real Southern Baptist preacher grew transparent and out of steam; the more he yelled towards the end, the faster he lost his power and his audience.)

tocino

Thanks Belle,

I should have arranged to watch with friends, it’s dangerous to watch this Hillary fest alone. I am house sitting with 3 hummingbird feeders and just now was in the midst of 50? hummers coming and going with such speed and grace…and the sound they make ! It chases any dullness from the brain. At least/last Bernie’s up next. Oh Lord may he blow this corrupt house down!

belle de jour

If you’re online here, you are watching with friends 🙂

tocino

I’m sick …like so many others who backed Bernie, only to hear him say, ” we must support Hillary” That was nearly too much to bear, like drinking a half empty bottle of limeade with a dead mouse in the bottom.
That said, here’s where I feel we must go, and that is to the States. Nebraska elected Anti Keystone Pipeline activist Jane Kleeb to head their democrat party. Nebraska is now a clean dem state. Other States can follow suit. This is where the Sanders revolution will find a home. State politics is where it’s at in so many ways. If we can get 30? clean dem State parties, we can implement powerful progressive agendas that will really help the 2018 ticket. All this pretty much separate from any Hillary, or Trump, BS. Right now, I’m so disgusted by the DNC, Hillary, and their corruption that I could puke. Tje whole country needs to puke and then get back to work to clean up the corruption. I cannot, and will not, support HRC though . Ugh , this torture session every four years has got to stop ! Good night All, sweet dreams !

NVPainter

Good night! And I think you’re right about working locally and on a statewide level.
