Thanks for the post wi60. If the poll is accurate it is certainly good news.

humphrey

Going to start the discussion on a somewhat optimistic vein.

This appears to be a good thing and it certainly is needed.

humphrey

Disgusting but not really a surprise.

My old-style bleeding liberal heart goes out to them.

The woman in the top video is so passionate..and smart! What a great angle, pulling coastal erosion up into the highest priority category in Thailand like that. She’s a force to be reckoned with! Inspiring. I hope they prevail.

I saw that kid’s TED talk awhile ago and was glad today to see that they’re giving the concept a crack.

I’m basically with this commenter, and crossing my fingers:

The known facts in this tragedy just don’t add up.

Cop needs to be indicted and tried for involuntary manslaughter at the very least. Good news, wi60. I’m still very wary of polls. T and R, BTW!! Bill Maher did a decent rant last night on how Al Franken was screwed over by the DINOs. I thought that Franken-Nina Turner would have been one righteous POTUS ticket a few years ago. Big Al was very disillusioned by the Senate even before the smear hit. I doubt he would have run for re-election again. 🙁 The weather is the latest down here. Height of the Hurricane Season and Nature is not disappointing. Florence is the latest threat. She will re-intensify into a hurricane and aim for somewhere along the east coast. Informal alerts are up from No. FL all the way to the mid-Atlantic region. The $$ is on possible landfall somewhere along the Carolinas. There are also storms threats to HI and SE Asia. Climate change in action. 🙁

Thanks Humphrey.

When I check the most recent prognostication on Florence this morning I spied another system behind Florence that seemed to be still forming.

Florence seems to have developed an eye, but not the one behind her.

Wait, why is ‘Isaac’ right behind Florence, yet ‘Helene’ is behind Isaac? And where is ‘G’??

This doppler pic snapped at 8:30pm Sat. Click on it to see.

I think that the are named in the sequence as they develop tropical storm intensity. Now I see that the image that I initially posted self updates. Isaac was not yet a storm when I first posted the image.

Mentally bracing myself for Florence over here. Last I saw CT is in the dark orange band of risk. I hope it misses you!

As of now Florence looks to make landfall north of you. Maybe SC.

I have to agree with you about the climate change in motion, told sis that on Thursday we had ‘feel like’ 101 degrees and tonight it’s expected to go down to about 51 degrees– a 50 degree shift in two days!

The cool air is a relief after all of the brutal hot weather we’ve been having, but it’s also a bit jarring.

magsview

Such a sad story. I’m seeing all sorts of stuff about the police officer possibly having known her victim, reports of her yelling to him to open up his door and whatnot. There seems to be more to this story than initially met the eye.

Go here to see a pertinent tweet with a pic and info.

humphrey

Its about time that this is happening.

humphrey

This is how we operate. This is happening in more places than Venezuela.

Shite’s been going on for decades. Beyond tired of it!

Benny

Yeah, I was just reading an article about it.

Turns out the guy was wearing a DSA sticker. Also, you might notice that a woman was wearing a t-shirt with a big red rose on it too.

I thought it was rude to remove him, but optics are important, no matter which politician you are.

magsview

PLaidShirtGuy! haha, I needed that laugh when I saw this. That meme will live on.

and here’s where they remove PlaidShirtGuy:

and here’s another, when they remove two more not-enthusiastic-enough people using a tall blond this time! omigod

I heard that Trump’s next appearance did not have anyone behind him. Gee, I wonder why.

Benny

He’s the DSA version of Joe the Plumber. But better. He’s only 17 and he has the opportunity to influence younger people!

She wants to be Speaker once again. HAH!

Benny

It will be interesting to see if the House does flip back to Dems, and whether or not the corporatist Dems regrasp onto the Speaker’s chair.

orlbucfan

She is definitely corrupted and semi-senile.

humphrey

Hopefully other states will follow suit.

This is a better idea than a false flag chemical weapons attack.

Houston pipeline company found guilty in 2015 California oil spill

California jury found a pipeline company guilty Friday of nine criminal charges for causing a 2015 oil spill that was the state’s worst coastal spill in 25 years, prosecutors said.

The Santa Barbara County jury reached its verdict against Plains All American Pipeline of Houston following a four-month trial, finding the company guilty of a felony count of failing to properly maintain its pipeline and eight misdemeanor charges, including killing marine mammals and protected sea birds.

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra said in a statement that Plains’ actions were not only reckless and irresponsible but also criminal.

“Today’s verdict should send a message: if you endanger our environment and wildlife, we will hold you accountable,” he said.

Plains said in a statement that it “accepts full responsibility for the impact of the accident.”

“We are committed to doing the right thing,” the company said.

The company is set to be sentenced on Dec. 13. Because it’s a company, and not a person, Plains only faces fines, though it’s unclear how steep the penalties could be.

Getting ugly in the gov race in NY…

humphrey

If I read that image correctly the mailer is coming from “The New York State Democratic Committee”. How sad!

magsview

Just saw that. The epitome of a smear campaign, right before Rosh Hashanah no less, obviously trying to paint Nixon as an anti-Semite, and it was paid for by the Democratic party!

Now, as most of you know, I am unhappy with this new(-ish) red line in which a candidate apparently has to declare that they are anti-BDS, but apparently Nixon has never actually said she was pro-BDS. Not that whether or not one is pro-BDS even means that one is anti-Semitic, mind you.

Benny

NYT tells Cuomo to apologize but still endorses him.

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/09/opinion/anti-semitism-mailer-nixon-cuomo.html

Mr. Cuomo deserves a third term because of his potential to lead. He should stop squandering that potential now. To be sure of it, New York Democrats need to turn out in large numbers on Thursday to support every reform-driven candidate possible — for the Legislature, for attorney general, even for party committees. They can teach Albany a lesson it won’t soon forget.

Corruption made complicit by the media. I’m still wondering how much they contributed to his campaign. This could hurt the Dem Party nationally too.

magsview

Thank you wi60! I hope your weekend is going well.

magsview

It would be great to boot Walker, that’s for sure.

So many corrupt politicians, so little time to boot them all out!

(p.s. I wish Evers was stronger on health care, my personal priority along with environmental issues, but if it makes life better for Wisconsinites, especially my birdie friend wi60, if Evers wins, then I hope he wins. He seems okay overall.)

Benny

magsview

Haha, good stuff.

Jim Carrey’s family was homeless and lived out of their van for a while. He knows it first-hand. They never had to worry about healthcare though while getting back up on their feet $$$-wise. No surprise that he is so freaked about the situation here. That show also talked about Al Franken. He was screwed by the DINOs for sure! It was a decent Maher show. I’m laying off politics (‘cept here) for a few days. The FRightwingnut show just keeps getting dumber and worse. Not getting any younger either. 🙁 Storm watching and NFL football are healthier distractions. 🙂 See if Tampa Bay can pull off the upset today?

https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/new-york-resistance-attorney-general-race_us_5b92e91fe4b0cf7b003fa910

On Thursday, the most important election until the November midterms will take place in New York ― a contest with national implications for the future of the Democratic Party, the strength of the American left and the viability of the Trump resistance. Nobody has any idea how it will turn out.

I am writing, of course, of the New York state attorney general’s race, which pits the best and the worst the Democratic Party has to offer against each other, for one of the most powerful offices in the country.

Since so many major corporations are chartered in New York, Teachout has proposed opening investigations against them as a way to fight the Trump administration on everything from climate change to predatory lending. Like every other candidate in the race, she has vowed to relentlessly pursue any corrupt dealings within the Trump organization itself.

Bolstered by endorsements from The New York Times and the New York Daily News, Teachout has taken on the status of a front-runner. Several New York political figures, noting the way the wind is blowing, have defected to her camp. And in recent debates, James and other candidates have trained their fire on Teachout, all but ignoring one another.

The contest between Teachout and James is firmly within the established debate over how to go about reforming the Democratic Party ― not so much a question of values as one of tactics, a choice between a pragmatist who has notched small victories within a corrupt system and an idealistic outsider who promises to overhaul that very system.

Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D-N.Y.), who entered the race on June 6, does not fit within this paradigm. In 2013, he was one of just nine Democrats in the House who voted with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in his gambit to suspend implementation of Obamacare ― a clash that resulted in a government shutdown. Two years later, he was one of only four House Democrats who voted with Republicans to bar undocumented immigrants from receiving federal housing aid. He voted with Republicans on two major laws unwinding key parts of the post-financial crisis Wall Street reforms. One Maloney-backed repeal will enable banks to hide racial discrimination in mortgage lending, while another, authored by Citigroup lobbyists, provided federal subsidies to big banks trading in the risky derivatives at the heart of the 2008 crash. He has voted to increase Donald Trump’s military budget and expand his warrantless surveillance powers.

A James or a Teachout victory on Thursday night would delight different factions of the Democratic Party. A Maloney win would be a triumph for big money, further entrenching the same interests that have rendered New York government so ineffective for so many communities.

humphrey

This is sad but true.

humphrey

What a joke.

http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/405734-pence-very-disappointing-to-see-obama-become-so-political

Vice President Pence said it was “very disappointing” to see former President Obama return to the campaign trail and “become so political.”

“The truth is, the American people in 2016 rejected the policy and direction of Barack Obama when they elected President Donald Trump,” Pence told Fox News in a new interview set to air Sunday.

“It was very disappointing to see President Obama break with the tradition of former presidents, and become so political and roll out the same tired argument that he and liberals have made over the last eight years,” Pence added.

She is a piece of work. Denied “her turn” of having a cabinet post!
