Is this in the same league as Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize?

http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/334366-trump-receives-saudi-arabias-highest-civilian-honor

Saudi Arabia King Salman placed the King Abdulaziz al Saud Collar around President Trump’s neck on Saturday during a ceremony in the country’s capital. The gold medallion is considered the kingdom’s highest civilian honor.

Trump received the medal during a ceremony at the Royal Court in Riyadh shortly after he arrived in Saudi Arabia for his first foreign trip as president.

The host of the event declared that Trump was being honored for “his quest to enhance security and stability in the region and around the world,” according to the Associated Press.

Benny

Did Lockheed nominate Trump for this award?

orlbucfan

That image makes me want to puke! Glad I skipped watching the idiot box ages ago. T and R of the usual suspects!!☺

humphrey

I want to be one of the first to obtain this blockbuster book! (TYPED WITH INFINITE SARCASM!)

Benny

Well, I guess he feels compelled to publish something considering his flailing Alexa numbers. Wonder how much he borrows from Yale historian Timothy Snyder?

I don’t have any news about the CA elections at the moment as I’m following the Bernie-Quist rallies today (the first one is at Noon MT), but I did find an article that caught Bill Maher picking a squabble with Cornel West last night on Real Time, concerning the last election. I saw Real Time last night as the conversation took hold. Alternet picked up Raw Story’s recap with the video embeded in the article.

Cornel West and Bill Maher Have Screaming Match About Trump, Hillary and Bernie
West, a prominent backer of Sen. Bernie Sanders, insisted that the Vermont independent could have won the election.

I was a little miffed at Maher as he started the conversation about police brutality against unarmed African American men. It was aimed at Cornel West, as obviously this was an issue that he has spoken passionately about. But then Maher got on the “purity” (meaning those of us who voted for Stein or didn’t vote for the top of the ticket in November) bandwagon and used it as a shaming mechanism, saying that Clinton would have been better on this issue. I don’t blame West for defending himself and refuting Maher with Clinton’s lack of integrity because of her coziness with Wall Street, her foreign policy issues in Honduras, or other things (I presume having to do with DNC) that harmed Bernie’s candidacy.

Moreover, Maher, along with conservative shill David Frum, supported VP Pence becoming POTUS in hopes that Trump will be impeached. More establishment talk. Maher thinks that Cornel has not learned the lesson of the last election, whereas Cornel indicates that Maher may not have. I’m with Cornel on this one.

CaliforniaPat

I do not watch him anymore because of his attitude about Bernie. I also do not buy into this Russian thing. I have stopped watching all the comedians for the same reason.

wi59

I still watch Colbert’s monologue ,Just to watch him torture Trump inc. No love lost between those two.

orlbucfan

Not sure what Maher’s buzz is. He is passionately pro-pot and supported the Bernster in the primariee. His other issue is climate change. I am getting fed up with the attacks on Bernie by people on certain progressive blogs, and getting slammed over refusing to vote for one of the equal evils. $hrill is an idiot brain on top of everything else! There’s really little difference between her and cheetohead regarding smarts!😠

SparkyGump

I stopped watching that self absorbed jackass Maher years ago. He’s another prototypical limousine liberal who doesn’t understand anything about typical Americans.

The American Library Association (ALA) Has Invited HC as the closing keynote speaker

This is infuriating as librarians and those without library degrees are among do not command good salaries unless they are in higher administrative rung in larger cities and academic research institutions, their pay scales are closer to social workers and the working class. I guess Clinton thinks she needs to soften her image by not only talking to hedge fund managers, but she continues the path of mainly speaking to women dominated industries. But if it is discovered that ALA is paying a huge fee for this speech, I think there is potential blow back on the membership.

humphrey

Does she ever do anything for free? There must be some strings attached.

orlbucfan

I am getting sick and tired of Clinton working the “I am woman, hear me roar” act. She has done it to death already.

Benny

Update: I just found out her publisher is likely to pay for the speaking fee. That’s a relief.

humphrey

She doesn’t care where it comes from as long as there is beaucoup de $$$$$$$.

Benny

I don’t begrudge her if her publisher pays. Many libraries will be buying her forthcoming book of hogwash, so it’s just as well she works for it with speeches. ALA though is struggling and they are trying to keep their conference numbers up. Most folks aren’t staying until Tuesday, so it will be a quaint audience of a few hundred, if that many as it is the very last day of the conference in Chicago. Obama would command a bigger audience, I believe.

Benny

Benny

humphrey

It appears as if they could work together just fine. They seem quite relaxed.

humphrey

It must be over. I clicked on link and nothing to see.

Benny

Yeah, I caught it just as Bernie was wrapping up, but I heard the roar of the crowd. I hope they will show another one later today.

Benny

What a great t-shirt!

Benny

BernieTV a little asleep at the switch–they catch it in the middle of Bernie’s speech, but here’s some of it:

Go at 1hr, 1 min mark.

Bernie talks about Medicare for All! Also stands up for Native Americans and talks about their plight, but also what they teach us about the planet.

humphrey

Another shot of the crowd.

wi59

That is the key for us TURNOUT!!!!!! Do that and we can win!!!!!!

Benny

It appears that Bernie may be livestreamed again very soon, I think for the second rally?:

In other news Trump visits Saudi Arabia.

Oops it looks like I posted the wrong image. Maybe?

humphrey

Hmmm! Doesn’t this seem kind of familiar?

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-brazil-corruption-idUSKCN18G0UC?feedType=RSS&feedName=topNews&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=Social

Brazilian President Michel Temer on Saturday angrily challenged a recorded conversation implicating him in a corruption probe, saying he would continue as president and ask the Supreme Court to verify the integrity of the recording.

“Brazil will not be derailed,” he said during a speech at the presidential palace, reiterating that he would not resign despite an ongoing investigation by the Supreme Court into allegations he took bribes and condoned the payment of hush money to a jailed congressman.

Temer, visibly defiant, said he would ask the court to suspend an investigation against him until it could determine whether the recording, made by the chairman of meatpacker JBS SA during a March conversation, was edited afterwards.

The corruption case against Temer has not gotten much MSM coverage.

I wonder if the new Mayor to be is a Berniecrat?

http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/democrats-vs-trump/defeated-pro-trump-democratic-mayor-down-dumps-n762541

Last year, the mayor of a seen-better-days steel town in Western Pennsylvania became the poster child of President Donald Trump’s appeal to white working-class Democrats. But he’ll soon be out of work after a 26-year-old assistant band director at the local high school beat him in a Democratic primary.

Monessen Mayor Louis Mavrakis’ outspoken support for Trump turned him into a media sensation. The 79-year-old former union organizer helped decode Trump’s appeal in the Rust Belt on Sunday political talk shows and for major newspapers, where he was quoted saying things like: “If ISIS was to come to Monessen, they’d keep on going. They’d say someone already bombed the goddamn place.”

Shorraw resolved to run for mayor, even though he had never held public office and was only in his mid-20s.

On Tuesday, he narrowly defeated Mavrakis in the Democratic primary. And with no Republican on the ballot in November, Shorraw is all but guaranteed to be the youngest mayor in the town’s history.

humphrey

Not much to see so far about California Democratic Convention.

humphrey

I think that i would have the same reaction.

humphrey

I cute diversion from everything so serious.

orlbucfan

I was hoping for another live stream of today’s rallies, as there’s supposed to be one more this evening in Billings. On the digital news in MT, this story appeared.

GOP Sen. Cotton raises national profile in visit to Iowa

The 40-year-old freshman senator sounded national themes Friday as the guest at the Pottawattamie County Republican Party’s annual fundraiser in Council Bluffs in conservative western Iowa. It was a role thick with presidential implications despite Trump’s solid standing among Iowa Republicans less than four months into his term.

“I’m ready for that new beginning,” Cotton added, in closing his 20-minute speech to more than 100 Iowa GOP loyalists and prompting a standing ovation.

However, Cotton offered a simple “no” when asked whether he was laying the groundwork for a 2020 presidential campaign, or hedging his bets should the Republican Trump not seek re-election.

“I’m up for re-election in Arkansas” in 2020, Cotton told The Associated Press before the fundraising dinner at an event center.

Cotton’s hosts were standing by the president, and calling their guest’s appearance an opportunity for Republican activists to meet a potential future leader. But the event had all the trappings of an early White House exploration.

Despite his unambiguous “no,” Cotton offered a broad message, as would-be White House prospects often do in Iowa. The veteran of wars in Iraq and Afghanistan suggested the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, were a unifying point for a new generation of Americans.

“I’ve spent most of my days since 9/11 trying to stop another day like that from happening,” he told the fundraising crowd. “But I also want to revive the spirt of the days following.”

On matters swirling around Trump, Cotton, also tread carefully.

Having previously said a special counsel was unnecessary, he declined Friday to endorse Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein’s appointment of former FBI Director Bob Mueller to investigate any collusion between Trump’s presidential campaign and the Russian government’s interference in the campaign.

“I can’t evaluate whether it’s a good decision or not, the right decision or not. I don’t have all the facts, all the reasoning the deputy attorney general had,” he told the AP, while praising Mueller as widely respected.

Benny

Yo Birdies, livestream of the Billings Rally, NOW going on :

Has some Native American tribal leaders on stage with Rob.

Benny

10:17 CT-Bernie speaking now. Someone yelled, “Love you” and Bernie replied, “Love you too!”

humphrey

Bernie certainly seems to be all in for Quist.

Benny

He’s on a roll now, calls ACHA one of the most unAmerican pieces of legislation. Throws 70,000 Montanans off the health insurance rolls. How can anyone support cutting Medicaid, in which 60% goes to nursing homes. (the room got really quiet). They need Rob to be in Congress to ensure the GOP legislation never sees the light of day.

Disgraceful bill! Now he’s on to GOP tax reform…and the repeal of the Estate tax. He mentions the Koch Brothers getting 35B cut (who has put money into Rob’s opponent in this race).

Benny

Bernie to crowd: you have the GOP Establishment very nervous!

wi59

If we can get this one maybe its a start of that momentum towards 2018 that we really need.

Benny

That’s the hope and wings we need. The other thing is if single payer can pass in NY and CA, it will pick up steam.

Benny

Bernie just made your point, he said (paraphrasing) that if Montana can pull off the win, there will be more people to stand up for other rural areas of the US.

He thanks the crowd for not being despair and for standing up.

Benny

3 rallies in one day! His energy is amazing.

humphrey

LOL. I am getting tired just reading about his busy day.

humphrey

The outcome should be known soon.

humphrey

It looks like the establishment candidate won.

http://www.latimes.com/politics/essential/la-pol-ca-essential-politics-updates-eric-bauman-named-new-chairman-of-the-1495342769-htmlstory.html

Longtime Democratic party leader Eric Bauman won a razor’s-edge victory Saturday night to be elected chairman of the California Democratic Party, beating his rival Kimberly Ellis by just over 60 votes.

The race, between a party insider and a progressive organizer, was a heated battle between divergent forces that are racking the Democratic party nationwide. Bauman was a favorite of the party establishment, while Ellis drew the backing of liberals who backed Bernie Sanders in last year’s Democratic presidential primary. She has worked to train Democratic women to run for office.

So close yet so far. DAM!

humphrey

UPDATE!

But Ellis did not concede, saying late Saturday night that she had been in touch with attorneys.

“This race is not done,” she told hundreds of chanting supporters who were calling for a recount in the hallway of the convention center where the state party convention was being held. “We will see you all in the morning.”
