Thanks Mags for the thread. I’m on metro north heading to NYC for a visit to friends

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/ny-pol-van-bramer-tish-james-zephyr-teachout-20180904-story.html?outputType=amp

Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer is rescinding his endorsement of Public Advocate Letitia James in her bid to be attorney general and is instead backing Zephyr Teachout, he told the Daily News.

In an interview, Van Bramer told the News he’d made his decision after watching the campaigns run by both James and Teachout play out in the context of a larger anti-machine movement in his own borough of Queens, where Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez recently felled longtime party boss Rep. Joseph Crowley.

“I believe that her independence from all of the power brokers, including the governor, is something that we should all want in an attorney general,” Van Bramer said of Teachout. “And you know, I want to be true to my own personal politics and principles, and also actually honor sort of the movement that’s been going on in Queens.”

Largest paper in Maloney’s district

As Teachout announced this week, should she win the nomination, which in practical terms should also end up in a November general election victory, “as attorney general, I would use that executive order to investigate corruption in Albany.”

The other three candidates have been much too cozy with the governor, an allegation that never taints Teachout, and have spent the campaign raising money from rich donors and repeating the kinds of flimsy promises about fighting corruption that we have been hearing for decades without results.

The Moreland Commission work put the two top crooks in Albany in jail and if it can be continued, as Teachout reasonably claims, it would be the kind of effort that corrupt legislators and other leaders throughout the state would fear with good reason.

As Politico noted in a recent story about the race, candidates have made 39 policy proposals that mostly talk about doing what has been done but doing it “vigorously” or in a “beefed-up” fashion. Another dozen or so promises concern asking legislators to act, and we know how that usually turns out.

It’s no wonder the other three Democrats have turned on Teachout. Even they can see that she has something New York needs, that hidden route around the impenetrable wall of corruption that has protected Albany legislators and leaders for so long.

I’m sure there is some polling showing Teachout is going to easily win helped sway him 😉

Regarding the MA 3rd district race, are either of the potential recount candidates progressives?

Not heroes. They are letting this scary imbecile continue so they can achieve their awful Republican goals. Actually villains is quite appropriate.

Don’t get me wrong. There are bright spots that the near-ceaseless negative coverage of the administration fails to capture: effective deregulation, historic tax reform, a more robust military and more.

The erratic behavior would be more concerning if it weren’t for unsung heroes in and around the White House. Some of his aides have been cast as villains by the media. But in private, they have gone to great lengths to keep bad decisions contained to the West Wing, though they are clearly not always successful.

It may be cold comfort in this chaotic era, but Americans should know that there are adults in the room. We fully recognize what is happening. And we are trying to do what’s right even when Donald Trump won’t.

Nation Stunned That There Is Someone in White House Capable of Writing an Editorial

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Millions of Americans were startled by the revelation on Wednesday afternoon that there was someone working in the Trump White House capable of writing an entire editorial, reports indicate.
In a nation already rocked by a series of bombshells since Labor Day, the news that an anonymous senior White House official had the command of the English language necessary to compose a seemingly coherent Op-Ed piece suitable for publication in a major newspaper was perhaps the most improbable development of all.

Davis Logsdon, a professor of linguistics at the University of Minnesota, said that a team of language experts under his supervision has studied the Op-Ed word by word and is “in a state of disbelief” that someone currently working for Donald J. Trump could have written it.

“There are complete sentences, there are well-structured paragraphs, there is subject-verb agreement,” he said. “This does not appear to be the work of any White House staffer we’re familiar with.”

With the shit show going on at the White House I wouldn’t be surprised if that high level person is Kelly or even Pence

Gotta make sure those tax cuts sail through

http://theweek.com/articles/765667/reveal-yourselves-trump-administration-resisters

If America is indeed being led by a “goddamn dumbbell” who, left to his own devices, would start World War III, then we should hear about it — directly from the mouths of those who uttered the words and believe them to be true. At the very least, if they’re not going to resign on principle from this chaotic joke of an administration, men like John Kelly, James Mattis, and John Dowd should loudly acknowledge the truth that’s in front of everyone’s noses.

To do otherwise is not to “save” the country. It is to save the reputation of Donald J. Trump.

The country does not require the discretion of James Mattis or John Kelly in order to survive.

Trump does.

History will damn them for refusing to recognize the difference.

https://www.commondreams.org/news/2018/09/05/progressives-denounce-pelosi-obsession-economically-illiterate-and-politically

Even as recent surveys, major congressional primary results, and leftward shifts within the Democratic caucus continue to demonstrate a widespread desire for progressive change within the party, House Democrats’ newly revealed 2019 legislative strategy—spearheaded by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.)—shows that party leaders are planning to cripple any move toward bold policy goals like Medicare for All by reimposing the fiscally conservative pay-go rule.

Pay-go—which Pelosi first implemented in 2007 after becoming House Speaker—requires that all new spending be completely offset by budget cuts or tax hikes. According to Axios, which first reported on the outline of House Democrats’ strategy on Monday, Pelosi is “committed” to reviving pay-go if Democrats take control of the House in November, despite strong progressive opposition to the rule.

Stephanie Kelton, an economist and former adviser to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), told The Intercept that “pay-go is a self-imposed, economically illiterate approach to budgeting,” particularly as Republicans continue to disregard such restraints to deliver massive rewards to wealthy Americans and large corporations.

“Instead of vowing budget chastity, Democrats should be articulating an agenda that excites voters so that they can unleash the full power of the public purse on their behalf,” Kelton argued.

Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) allegedly spent campaign cash on affairs with five separate individuals, according to prosecutors who reportedly claim to have photographic evidence.

Hunter and his wife, Margaret, were indicted last month on 60 charges related to the alleged misuse of $250,000 in campaign funds for personal expenses such as lavish vacations and dinners. The couple has pleaded not guilty.

Beto was on the Ellen Show this week. Here’s a tweet from her. I found the show and clips, but they are on her own channel, Ellen Tube.

He was gracious, as usual, and I think some voters who didn’t know him before will be impressed with his persona.

Benny

Maybe Jcitybone will get an opportunity to go to that event?

jcitybone

I will try!

This should be interesting…

FL FRightwing is gearing up with FBI smears. This state has a stark choice: black vs. white. I’m not talking race either. If the Orange Blob fan wins, I am going to figure out how to leave the state. That will guarantee 6 more years of Sick Rott, too. Enough is enough!!
