God Damn It Nancy

NANCY PELOSI RAMS AUSTERITY PROVISION INTO HOUSE RULES PACKAGE OVER OBJECTIONS OF PROGRESSIVES

Establishment dems are holding onto power and preventing change

Listened to Chris Hedges today and once again he said that the two parties are the problem

Yes, dems are less bad, but that does not make them good

Can the house rules be changed in the future?

Will there even be a future with climate change???

People better get with the program ASAP if they have kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, etc. The Rapture is a 2000+ year old bad joke.

TheLeftistheCenter

The Rapture is actually an early 19th century concept as its presented today, its modern roots only go as far back as early American fundamentalists and really as currently define has no ancient roots at all.

orlbucfan

Thanks for the info. Christian Fundamentalism is what I meant. Paul the so-called Apostle is the Founder of it.

TheLeftistheCenter

The words from the original languages used now to mean the rapture did exist and have meaning going all the way back its just that its meaning was never interpreted as ‘all the good people being swept up to heaven instantly and leave the bad people to the apocalypse’ until Cotton Mather

orlbucfan

Cotton Mather-what a piece of twisted work he was. 🙁

Dems welcome neo cons into the party program

Return of the Neocons

and onto sacred programs like MSNBC

the empire continues to follow the collapse of past empires by overextended military

that along with global capitalism

“Nobody could have known” the famous statement by Condoleezza Rice about 9/11. No one could have known that the global economy would collapse

And no one could have known that the earth will collapse the economy

no wonder the Green New Deal is off the table

Left the room so would not be in same auditorium with Joe Biden at a NN conference. Wandered around and there was a video set up outside and Kos was watching him

Why I don’t think Joe Biden should run for president

a 2015 article that makes the case

Well, Andrew Cuomo just endorsed Biden for 2020. Well-oiled Dem machine in NY, that runs without any annoying input from the people who actually live in the state. (Biden supported Cuomo against Nixon.)

Cuomo is making a massive effort to “forget” that single payer health insurance passed the NY Assembly in 2017 and came within one vote of also passing the Senate; that was when the Senate rogue Dem’s existed, and they’re gone now, so Cuomo has no more excuses to block single payer.

I’m ordering Peter Phillips’ book “Giants: the Global Power Elite,” after having watched the TRNN interview with him that was posted here a couple of days ago. I also listened to an earlier video by Phillips on the same subject. This is needed information, but it’s going to be a depressing read!!

Biden appears to be the Third Way’s first choice. The Third Way’s web site even features a picture with Biden.

House Dems formalize climate committee plans without Green New Deal language

House Democrats have formally proposed creating a new committee on climate change, without many of the main factors that progressives wanted in the panel’s structure.

Democratic leaders unveiled the plans for the “Select Committee on the Climate Crisis” late Tuesday as part of a package of rules to govern House proceedings for the next two years.

The proposed rules, which the House will vote to adopt Thursday when Democrats formally take the chamber’s majority, say the select committee is instructed “to investigate, study, make findings, and develop recommendations on policies, strategies, and innovations to achieve substantial and permanent reductions in pollution and other activities that contribute to the climate crisis which will honor our responsibility to be good stewards of the planet for future generations.”

have many of the features that Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), dozens of other Democrats and hundreds of activists have asked for to lead to a “Green New Deal.”

The panel will not have the power to subpoena or depose, nor will it have the authority to vote on legislation and send it directly to the House floor for a vote.

It also is not being explicitly charged with developing Green New Deal legislation, which supports envision as bringing the county to 100 percent renewable electricity and decarbonizing major industries over 10 years, as well as a universal jobs guarantee and other ideas.

If this doesn’t make the newcomers and the Sunrise movement really, really mad, at the same time as PayGo is going down, i don’t know what will. Too late to withdraw support. Kneecapped.

Benny

What’s equally bad is that one of the rule changes to allow women to wear hair scarves on the House Floor. Not certain how Illhan will vote because this was thrown in.

Pelosi is as bad as the other power grabbing establishment types.

orlbucfan

She’s reeked for years. Recall her infamous ‘Impeachment is off the table’ regarding Cheney-Dumbya and Iraq?

Benny

What’s also telling is when a capitalist magazine explains it more succinctly than TOP can:

To understand why progressive reps like Ro Khanna and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez oppose this Nancy Pelosi-proposed rule, it’s important to learn the context. Though many believe it to be a logical way to rein in spending, some argue that Paygo is a way to handicap progressive programs. In this telling, it is essentially a perfect articulation of conservative bad faith, in that it lets Republicans have a check on new spending after completely overhauling the tax code to favor the rich, which increased the deficit to new heights.

What’s more important is that Paygo has been shown to do real political damage. The New Republic, citing a recent paper, explains that “Affordable Care Act’s subsidies were artificially made smaller because of pay-go rules.” That same publication describes the rule as specifically harmful to the U.S. economy when the country is in the midst of an economic downturn (which is likely to happen any moment now).

In short, despite it being a rule embraced by many in the center–and championed by Democrats like Pelosi–Paygo is seen by progressives as a way to gesture bipartisanship while both pandering to conservatives and likely hindering the country’s economy. Which is why some member of the new progressive-leaning House are fighting its reintroduction to the House rules. Lawmakers like Ocasio-Cortez are fighting for new legislation like Medicare for all–and Paygo rules would make it nigh impossible to pass such new and effective programs.

A number of Democrats will need to oppose these House rules in order to halt their passage. But with high-profile politicians like Khanna and Ocasio-Cortez signaling their opposition, it may be able to happen.

polarbear4

Token opposition that I’ve come to expect.

Well, we know now.

Warren Secures Top Iowa Political Operatives for 2020 Caucus

Her campaign tells Starting Line that Kane Miller, Emily Parcell, Janice Rottenberg and Brendan Summers have all signed on to be part of Warren’s Iowa operation.

The news comes before Warren’s inaugural visit to Iowa this weekend, where she’ll hold events in Des Moines, Council Bluffs, Sioux City and Storm Lake. She announced her official presidential exploratory committee on Monday.

All four of Warren’s hires have the experience to where they could easily serve as state directors for any top-tier candidate, making it particularly noteworthy that Warren was able to recruit all of them. There’s a limited pool of top Iowa staffing talent to go around for the very expansive 2020 field, so taking this group of people off the board so early may put pressure on other potential candidates to speed up their timelines.

Warren’s addition of Summers to her team brings on a former top Bernie Sanders adviser. Summers served as Sanders’ caucus director in 2016, which should help Warren create a caucus strategy that builds upon her fellow progressive senator’s success from four years ago. Summers has worked in Iowa politics for many cycles, and he knows the ins and outs of the caucus process better than few others from his time as the state party’s caucus-to-convention and caucus director in 2008 and 2012. He most recently worked for Jason Kander’s Let America Vote organization.

Rottenberg served as the Iowa Democratic Party’s coordinated campaign director in the 2018 cycle, a year where Democrats broke record early vote and turnout numbers, flipped two congressional seats and picked up several Iowa House districts. She was the field director for the state party in 2014, was a top organizing staffer on Hillary Clinton’s 2016 caucus campaign, and has also held key roles in Ohio and Virginia campaigns.

Miller guided Abby Finkenauer’s congressional campaign to victory in Iowa’s 1st District this past year, electing one of Iowa’s two first female members of the U.S. House. He was also Clinton’s Iowa state director in the 2016 general election after serving as a regional field director in the caucus.

Parcell is a longtime Iowa staffer and consultant, working as Barack Obama’s political director for his 2008 Iowa Caucus team. She’s been through many caucus campaign cycles, including as part of Dick Gephardt’s 2004 and Al Gore’s 2000 teams. Parcell started up her own consulting firm several years back, and has earned a reputation as one of the best and most creative direct mail strategists in Iowa and around the country.

China’s moon landing.

BEIJING — China reached a milestone in space exploration on Thursday, landing a vehicle on the far side of the moon for the first time in history, the country’s space agency announced.

The landing of the probe, called Chang’e-4 after the moon goddess in Chinese mythology, is one in a coming series of missions that underscore the country’s ambitions to join — and even lead — the space race.

China landed another rover on the moon in 2013, joining the United States and the Soviet Union as the only nations to have carried out a “soft landing” there, but the Chang’e-4 is the first to touch down on the side of the moon that perpetually faces away from the Earth.

The mission “has opened a new chapter in humanity’s exploration of the moon,” the China National Space Administration said in an announcement on its website. The agency said the spacecraft landed at 10:26 a.m. Beijing time at its target on the far side of the moon.

The probe sent back to the earth the first close-up image of the moon’s far side using a relay satellite China calls “Queqiao,” or “Magpie Bridge,” the space agency said in a notice that included images it said were taken by the probe.
