Other western leaders are coming, so if incursion does happen, it won’t be before the weekend.

Every finger crossed. And same of Scholtz visit tmrw. One journo friend described this as Western leaders doing “babysitting shifts.” twitter.com/YairWallach/st…

I should add that far from all commanders in the field would be critical of delay. We’ve been hearing anecdotally is disarray, lack of clear/updated plans, and general apprehension about going into several months of war w no obvious endgame.

Could it be canceled altogether, given the exceptional influence the US has at this moment?

Fingers tightly crossed, but – I think so. Or at least severely curtailed. Will do a thread in a min.

Back to your regular scheduled program of forever wars starring Ukraine.

I have strong disagreements with the administration’s approach to the region, but Biden deserves credit for using his visit to create time for Israel to pause and think before escalating into a worse catastrophe and further loss of lives.

Paul ADK

If Israel bombed that hospital today they’re already gone. Israel needs to present the appearance of taking the high ground, otherwise what’s the difference.

They bombed it; that’s a given with yaboob and the religious nuts making up his coalition. He’s so desperate to keep his corrupt, wrinkled carcass out of jail. Watch someone pick him off. 💩

The PTB has been screwing up that part of the world for a long long time…

T and R x 4, and thanks, Ms. Benny!! 🙂 We definitely need our Nest to rant, rave, and vent!

And thanks for hosting this weekend, too. 🙂 It’s wonderful having a place to vent and let off steam. Two thumbs up! 🙂

The slaughter of over a thousand Israelis by Hamas in a terrorist attack is an unspeakable crime.

The bombing of a Palestinian hospital is an unspeakable crime, as is the displacement of a million people without water, food, and medicine.

These unspeakable crimes must stop now. The bombs and missiles from both sides must end, massive humanitarian aid must be rushed to Gaza, and the hostages must be returned to their families.

Truth, Bernie, but what can decent people do to stop it?

Fears are growing that people in Gaza are beginning to dehydrate to death as clean water runs out, while Israeli airstrikes continue to pound the Palestinian territory of 2.3 million residents amid a total blockade on food, electricity, medicine and fuel.

The UN’s agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, said on Tuesday that Gaza’s last seawater desalination plant had shut down, bringing the risk of further deaths and waterborne diseases such as cholera and dysentery. Six water wells, three water pumping stations and one water reservoir – which collectively served more than 1.1million people – are also out of action, it said.

Israel cut off its sole water pipeline to Gaza, along with the fuel and electricity that power water and sewage plants, in the wake of the Hamas attacks that killed 1,400 people. UN experts have condemned the Israeli bombardment and blockade as “collective punishment”, which is a war crime.

After 16 years of a joint Israeli-Egyptian blockade, imposed after Hamas seized control of the exclave in 2007, clean water was already one of the most pressing concerns in the strip. Almost 97% of the water in Gaza’s sole aquifer is not potable; without proper maintenance and with Israeli restrictions on imports and electricity, sewage treatment plants were overwhelmed years ago. Untreated waste has flowed directly into the Mediterranean for more than a decade.

Now, desperate civilians find themselves consuming the contaminated tap water, or digging new wells too close to the sea to drink and use dirty, salty water. “People are trying to fetch water out of dangerous places, like the wells at mosques. In fact, children were killed [by airstrikes] while trying to drink water at a mosque a week ago,” said Jamil al-Meqdad, a writer and researcher in Gaza City.

“Water for daily use, washing, dishwashing etc was completely cut because there is no electricity for generators to pump water … And the water truck only comes about once every three days, so no one can get enough. The only remaining water is being distributed in small amounts so that each person can have a small share.”

Access to at least 50 litres of water per person per day is the minimum level set by the World Health Organization. Most people in Gaza are now believed to be surviving on three, the UN says.

Dehydration quickly leads to fatigue, dizziness and confusion before organs such as the kidneys shut down, causing coma and death. Severe dehydration must be treated quickly for patients to recover: it can cause permanent brain and other organ damage.

On Tuesday, US secretary of state, Antony Blinken, said during his second visit to Israel since the crisis began that the US and Israel had “agreed to develop a plan that will enable humanitarian aid from donor nations and multilateral organisations to reach civilians in Gaza”.

But as night fell, no progress appeared to have been made on the opening of the Rafah crossing, the civilian entry point between the strip and Egypt’s Sinai peninsula, for any civilians to leave or aid to go in.

The bombardment has continued without relenting. At least 49 Palestinians were killed in Israeli strikes that hit homes in Rafah and Khan Younis, Gaza’s interior ministry said. And on Tuesday evening, reports suggested hundreds had been killed by a strike on a hospital in Gaza City.

The new war in Gaza – the fifth since 2007 – is also the most fatal, with more than 3,000 Palestinians killed in bombings that, combined with the fuel and medical supplies shortages, have also left the strip’s already crumbling medical infrastructure unable to function.

An unprecedented evacuation order for more than half the strip’s population to leave Gaza City and move to the southern half of the territory has been complicated by bombings on routes identified as safe and conflicting and confusing information about windows for passage. The WHO called the order a “death sentence” for the thousands of sick and injured.

Water access is crucial for sanitation and hospitals. “Water is needed to ensure sanitary conditions on inpatient wards, in operation rooms, and emergency departments. It is essential for the prevention of hospital associated infections and for the prevention of outbreaks,” the WHO said.

An Israeli water pipeline was opened for three hours in Khan Younis on Monday, serving half of the town’s population – which was 100,000 and has swelled to unknown proportions in the wake of the evacuation directive. It appears to have had little effect, however, as a lack of fuel and damaged pipelines have made it difficult to transport and pump.

UNRWA said 400,000 displaced people were crowded into schools and other UN-run buildings in southern Gaza, and it had only one litre of water a day for its trapped staff members.

Mohammad Saqr, a resident of Khan Younis, told Reuters: “Because of the large number of people, there’s no water. So I thought I would volunteer, come with a rickshaw and carry the water from the far away areas, the dangerous areas. Now, we’re filling in salt water, I’m ready to drink from the salt water – what else can we do?”

Consuming salt water is fatal to humans. Biological fact. Yaboob and his puke are committing genocide, no doubt about it. Byedone needs to get his wrinkled arse home.

Since the GQP doesnt believe in science, they would yell “Fake Science” as it were

Poll conducted by SurveyUSA in Ohio shows large majorities favoring abortion rights and marijuana legalislation.

The BW CRI Ohio Pulse Poll shows 58% of likely voters for the November 7 election favor passage of Issue 1, an amendment to the Ohio Constitution that would protect the right to reproductive freedom, including “access to contraception, fertility treatment, continuing one’s own pregnancy, miscarriage care, and abortion.”

Issue 1 is favored by 89% of Democrats, 39% of Republicans and 51% of independents. In addition, 65% of parents, 54% of gun owners and 37% of evangelicals support Issue 1. Only 8% of respondents were undecided.

A similar majority of 57% said they plan to vote “yes” on Issue 2, which would legalize recreational use of marijuana. Just 7% of respondents were undecided.

Majorities across most demographic groups support Issue 2, including 66% of Democrats, 50% of Republicans, 59% of independents, 70% of parents and 71% of respondents ages 18-49. Almost half of self-identified evangelicals (47%) and respondents age 50 and older (47%) support Issue 2.

“The majorities of respondents in these demographics favoring Issue 1 and Issue 2 indicate a strong likelihood of a majority vote for both ballot issues in November,” said Dr. Tom Sutton, political science professor and director of the BW CRI.

Biden had no choice but to give Israel a pass here. He wasn’t about to say otherwise after throwing his full backing behind Netanyahu’s war. Still he phrased it to give himself a chance to change his view. Tells you a lot.

“Based on what I’ve seen, it appears as though it was done by the other team, not you,” Biden tells Netanyahu about the deadly hospital blast in Gaza.

Byedone really is an embarrassing joke.

Not even funny anymore, i shake my head in disgust

Actually, Biden is better than I thought he would be here.

President Biden cautioned Israel Wednesday not to make the same mistakes the United States made after the 9/11 terrorist attacks as Israeli forces are expected to prepare a ground offensive in response to terrorist attacks launched by Hamas.

Biden delivered remarks in Tel Aviv at the end of a trip to Israel meant to underscore his unwavering support for the Jewish state in the aftermath of the Hamas attacks, which killed more than 1,000 Israelis and has set off concerns about a wider conflict in the region.

“Since this terrorist attack took place, we’ve seen it described as Israel’s 9/11. But for a nation the size of Israel, it was like 15 9/11s,” Biden said. “The scale may be different, but I’m sure those horrors have tapped into some kind of primal feeling in Israel just like it did in the United States. Shock, pain, rage. An all-consuming rage.”

“You can’t look at what has happened here … and not scream out for justice,” Biden continued. “Justice must be done. But I caution this: While you feel that rage, don’t be consumed by it. After 9/11 we were enraged in the United States. While we sought justice and got justice, we also made mistakes.”

Biden said the choices in a time of war are never clear and must be weighed against potential costs before noting that the Palestinian people are suffering, and that the vast majority of them are not represented by Hamas.

Following the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, the U.S. embarked on wars in Afghanistan to hunt down those responsible and then months later, began a war in Iraq. The dual conflicts cost the United States thousands of U.S. troops and spanned 20 years. Biden served as vice president while both wars were being waged and his administration later oversaw the chaotic exit of U.S. troops from Afghanistan in 2021.

The president’s comments came as scores of Palestinians have been killed in retaliatory Israeli strikes on Gaza, which is controlled by Hamas. Israel is preparing an offensive against Hamas, including a potential ground invasion.

World leaders have also sounded the alarm about a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where civilians have struggled to access food, water and medicine.

Protests have broken out in the Middle East after a hospital explosion Tuesday in Gaza that killed hundreds of people, including patients who were seeking treatment and refuge amid heavy aerial bombardment by Israel over the last week.

While Hamas and some Arab nations have blamed Israel for the explosion, Biden and the White House have said available information indicates Israel was not responsible for the blast.

Of course,then there’s this.

President Joe Biden on Wednesday said he plans to ask Congress for an “unprecedented support package for Israel’s defense” later this week.

Behind the scenes, the Biden administration is telegraphing to members of Congress they might request upwards of $100 billion in a national security supplemental package that would include increased aid to Israel, Ukraine, Taiwan and include money for the US southern border, two sources familiar told CNN.

Three sources also told CNN that the administration has told Capitol Hill leaders that they might submit an official request by the end of the week.

The sources are cautioning that both the timing and amount could change as the resident is on a high-stakes trip to Israel, and as the president gets more information on the ground there. It’s also unclear how the package would be received in the House of Representatives as Republicans are still struggling to coalesce a speaker, and as there have been strong divisions within the Republican conference around providing more aid to Ukraine.

While the details have not been finalized, the upcoming supplemental request is expected to cover a full fiscal year of funding, two sources familiar with the plans said.

Plenty of $$$$ for wars and the profiteers, a kid gets a free lunch and heads explode over at the GQP

The Billionaire Hotel Heir—and Progressive Hero.

As governor of Illinois, J.B. Pritzker has managed to unstick a dysfunctional state government while pushing through an unapologetically liberal agenda. Can his strategy work on a national level?

Got your popcorn supply ready? Good ole Gym lost his 2nd vote and lost a couple supporters.
Even Boehner won’t support him and got one vote. When you lose Boehner just how bad of a candidate are you. Gym’s cronies actually called a wife of at lest one congresscritter and told her a thinly threat of her hubby to come around. GQP going all in for Fascism as intimidation is one of the play cards for them. Hell even the old school mobsters had a rule that wives and kids were off limits for pay backs. so another

It’s an historical long shot, but there is the very tiny chance that Jeffries may end up as the next House Speaker. The tiny crew of “normal”/”moderate” GOPukes are fed up. The ones in districts that went for Byedone know they’re being watched. Voters are getting more fed up and freaked out. So, hold on to your hats, and enjoy the popcorn.
