dang. Bernie can be so frustrating, too. There was a progressive who was considering a run.

“Welch, a Democrat, is known to be planning a run to replace Leahy if and when he retires. If Sanders endorses Welch, he functionally forecloses any challenge from the left. State Rep. Tanya Vyhovsky is also contemplating a run for Senate if Leahy steps down but told The Intercept she won’t do so if Sanders gets behind Welch. “I don’t want to lose any capacity I have [in the state legislature] in a race that’s unwinnable,” she said. “That is a big piece of this — if Bernie is going to endorse Peter there’s not much point doing it.”

the intercept.

Maybe he felt she did not have a chance

Are there issues with Welch? I’m not super familiar with his record, but nothing jumps out at me as a problem.

afaik, just more right on the scale than bernie. nothing to worry about, idt.

Biggest problem is his age. We need someone younger that can carry on when Bernie retires. Isn’t Welch 71?

It may be particularly demoralizing that some of the most outspoken critics of the left are Democrats themselves, reinforcing the cynicism among progressives that the Party is not a real vehicle for social change. For years, Obama has advised young Black voters that they don’t have time to be tired, telling them and others, “Don’t boo, vote.” At the same time, he and other Democrats chastise them for being “woke” ideologues: for demanding an end to systemic racism, police brutality, and rampant inequality in this country. For years, a large portion of the Democratic base has been waiting for substantive help from the Democrats, and it has not arrived. Indeed, the perpetual delay is part of why rebellions and uprisings have roiled the U.S. since the Obama Administration. While the Republican Party prepares to remake the country to its liking, the Democratic Party warns its members to slow down and be sure not to offend. It’s no surprise that one party is enjoying record turnouts and the other is wondering what just happened.

The NYT continues to spew the nonsense of attacking what constitutes a Left in this country. It’s yahoos like James Carville, Spannbergen (sp?) and other GOPuke lites who are the real problem.

this is the New Yorker. I think they’re owned by a different “people.“

Although I would’ve preferred an even more direct approach this is by a writer i value and believes she makes some good points especially these here.

apparently there’s a documentary coming out on Showtime, with a fairly reliable, highly positioned, ex-CIA guy talking about it. maybe already out.

The good info was more than likley destroyed long ago, along with death threats to family members if they talked. time has passed to the point that anyone that knows anything is dead.
