Good morning, LD. Thanks for getting us started on this potentially momentous day.

The New York Times said this many votes are left to count in GA before provisionals. The votes are predominantly from strong Dem areas. If he wins about 40,000 of them, he takes the lead. Looks more likely than not. Perdue is just above the 50% threshold so it looks like there definitely will be two Georgia runoffs in January for Senate control.

Gabriel Sterling, Georgia’s statewide voting system implementation manager, said that 61,367 outstanding mail-in absentee ballots remained uncounted. The state aims to finish its count by noon.

Whichever way the Georgia vote comes out, it’s going to be so incredibly close — probably about 20,000 votes out of about 5 million votes cast — that there will almost certainly be a recount.

Some states do a recount if the winning margin is less than .4%; in this case (if I’m doing the math right) the winning margin will likely be about .04%. Now that’s a close race!

Benny

They’ve finished processing the absentee mail-in ballots from Fulton County. Biden leads in Fulton, but still behind Trump overall.

I found that tweet a bit confusing tbh.

Do they mean Ilhan won the primary by 20% and she won the general by 40%?

It was great to see her name on the scroll on election night as having won. I thought, “she must have won handily if they are already declaring her result!”

Btw, I think that’s what would have happened to Bernie, not that it matters now I realize, but I think Bernie would have won the general more easily than the primary.

wi62

Bernie would’ve gotten more cross over vote from R’s that Byedone did in the general

OzoneTom

He likely would have brought in Hispanic voters in Texas districts that went Obama and Clinton, but flipped to Trump this year. And some of those districts had been blue but flipped to the GOP for the House race as well.

T and R, LD!! 😊☮️👍 Geez, even with a decent nationwide turnout, we are stuck with horse’s azz McConnell. The Repukes have narrow control of the Senate. Don’t get me started about Floridumb! Man, am I sick of living here!🤬💩

wi62

Being in Gerrymandered WI and having Rojohn isnt exactly a Sunday social. Basically if you want to win a seat in WI state govt just slap an R behind your name, the rest is rigged for you, dont need to spend much money on campaigns.

Wiskansas or Arkonsin? Sounds just like here. But my ex was from Wisconsin, and his dad was a flaming Reaganite, and, had he lived so long, would have LOVED Trump. Funny family gatherings, LOL. All three boys were libs, the daughter was a fundy nut. Grandpa was a drunk, and mom was… just mom.

The Mrs family which is rather large most has bought into the trumpcorp dumpster fire no matter what, a couple post on social media and have had an overdose of the Trumpcorp kool aid.I’ve managed to “save” her though, She cant stand even to look at trumpcorp when he’s on TV.

In the long wait for the vote, it appears the Trump team have been investing in some alternative remedies – not herbal, no, but spiritual. Trump’s spiritual adviser Paula White led a passionate prayer service last night, which included speaking in tongues. What she didn’t realize, perhaps, is that a few hours later, the internet would have her speaking in four-by-four beats.

polarbear4

ahhh thanks! hahahaha

I must admit I tried a few (musical) bars out loud after hearing this, and enjoyed doing so 😉

This is so who we are. And, unfortunately, we are not better than this. America has been on this path since this country’s ignoble inception when our forefathers enslaved Blacks, exterminated Native Americans, and denied women the right to vote.

It’s why we shouldn’t be surprised that roughly half of American voters knowingly supported a racist and misogynist whose administration separated more than 500 migrant children from their parents and downplayed a virus that has cost more than 230,000 people their lives.

Nearly half of voters apparently care more about their red hats and their MAGA tribe than shoring up the Affordable Care Act and ensuring that all Americans have access to health care. Apparently the threat of stripping funds from Social Security, turning our backs on the Paris Climate Agreement and removing environmental regulations matter less to them than riding the Trump train.

Roughly half of the Americans who cast ballots were OK with doing so for a man who has denigrated the Black Lives Matter movement and expressed support for Confederate memorials and white supremacists such as the Proud Boys, whom he told to “stand back and stand by.” Make America Great Again indeed!

It’s sobering how so many millions still voted to reelect this disaster of a president, proving just how deeply divided we are as a nation.

At least young voters get the picture.

Interesting that the percentage for “other” was much more consistent than for the parties.

post was too right wing, so linking directly to the whole issue of TIME discussing the “Great Reset.”

i have to say, this does not fill me with good feelings. this many oligarchs “reimagining” capitalism with their smug smiles…

i feel like i should be glad they’re talking about it…

so, until i can do something, back to life and a conscious effort to let joy in today. :O) Happy “It’s Over” Day, everyone!

They’re heeeeeere. They bite, and they stink. Nevertheless, I kinda like them.

I hear they’re one of the ‘good’ bugs. Eat other annoying bugs. It’s a bug eat bug world out there!

phatkhat
phatkhat

Not these. They look like regular old ladybugs, but they are not. These evidently eat nectar or something. I always have a few that overwinter in the house, and I feed them sugar water. They seem to do fine with it. They’re interesting to watch.

magsview

You feed some bugs in the winter??
You are my kind of people!
(insects under-appreciated imo)

This seems to be good news:

From what I can see Nithya is pulling it off:

Votes %
Nithya Raman 59,117 52.39%
David Ryu 53,713 47.61%

* These results will be continually updated. Last updated on Wed., Nov. 4 at 5:13 p.m. On Thursday, officials are expected to count additional ballots that were returned on Monday.

Hmmm, a woman of color doesn’t get the Dem establish nod, I wonder why? 🤔

How Nithya Raman gained an edge in L.A. City Council race

When urban planner Nithya Raman launched her bid for Los Angeles City Council last year, she was best known in her neighborhood for helping homeless residents get meals, showers and other aid.

By the time voters cast their ballots, the 39-year-old Silver Lake resident had become a powerful symbol for progressive activists, not just across the city but in other parts of the country, securing the endorsement of Bernie Sanders and favorable profiles from Vogue and the Daily Beast.

While votes are still being counted, Raman is in a strong position to unseat Councilman David Ryu, making him the first L.A. council member to be ousted in 17 years. Her first-place showing — she had 52.4% as of Wednesday — represents “a political earthquake” for City Hall, said Zev Yaroslavsky, a former councilman and county supervisor who heads the Los Angeles Initiative at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs.

Yaroslavsky predicted a Raman victory would embolden the movement that rallied for her — younger, grassroots activists who favored Bernie Sanders and are frustrated with City Hall — to get even more involved in the 2022 election, when eight council seats and three citywide seats will be up for grabs.

Great news! shared.

Typical dems–as long as they can keep on killing people, but smoothly, with lots of “I care” on top.

For what it’s worth Bradshaw did about as well in TN with no party assistance as McGrath did in KY with massive party help.

Policy counts.

orlbucfan

McGrath was already a loser in the KY races. She also supported orange maggot tRump. Way to go Schumer and the bought-off stupes in the DSCC.

phatkhat
phatkhat

I saw one pic of her that really caused my jaw to drop. I don’t remember if it was a debate or press thing, but she quite clearly made the white power sign. Now, I know it used to be a sign for okay, but I certainly self-censor if I am tempted to use it, and I’m not even a politician! To do that on camera is either gross negligence or a dog whistle. I’m putting my money on the latter.

jcitybone

No Dems were going to win in Tennessee, Kentucky, or West Virginia. Might as well run a progressive to pave the way for future inroads.

Benny

I think Charles Booker had a shot.

OzoneTom
OzoneTom

Better than McGrath, absolutely.

phatkhat

Booker can connect with people in a real way. He’s for real, and people feel that. He’s a lot like Bernie, that way.
