Establishment dems show how important Bernie Sanders is to US politics

Their dependence on $ from banks, energy and military

They want to kill off Green New Deal as well as other important issues

The DNC and establishment fear of Bernie continues as well as incrementally going along with his issues and playing games and all the while hoping that Bernie goes away

The yellow jacket revolt in France and in various places in the world has not changed the establishment dems.

But the Moderns cannot hold on much longer

…their autonomy and democracy is fed by others’ soils, and therefore the Moderns have lost their spacial orientation

The Earth is not divided up into colored areas on a map with sovereign states in control. Pollution from China travels to the US, seas are becoming more acid and rising, and on and on.

I eat vegetables from various places in the world. Where does my territory start and where does it end? My cell phone is made from materials and assembled around the world. Whose land do I occupy?

a direct link between ecological transition and social justice

We do not know where we reside nor where we are going. No wonder things do not make sense.

The quotations above are from an article by Bruno Latour which is published on academia.edu, a free source of research articles. I now get so many about the kinds of issues that face us that I have stopped downloading them. There seem to be more interest and work outside the US than inside the US.

My friend the historian says in his circle of friends, they have never heard about Bruno Latour, and moreover, he is increasingly not welcome in social gatherings because he brings up issues like militarism and the environment.

Not only to Americans live in a bubble which Jeremy Scahill has called America’s religion of exceptionalism, the possibilities are so dire that they cannot face them and it seems that they want to escape even more.

“possibilities are so dire that they cannot face them and it seems that they want to escape even more”

This. And why we have to primary every one of them. I feel a little sorry for them— all that money and staff and power, and still they can’t see the terrible consequences of their actions. The world is upside down and we continue on as though all is well, as you say.

Is it strange that dems are now the party of war?

And the party supporting the FBI and the CIA?

Well no, connect $ to politics …

Glenn Greenwald has been pointing out the flip of dems was they howl about Mattis departure and the further power of Trump.

One of the favorites is Rachel Maddow. In 2012 she wrote a book about the danger of undeclared wars and Glenn wrote about her book “Drift”

“America is in urgent need of a real debate over its addiction to sprawling militarism and endless war. It affects, and degrades, every aspect of national life: political, cultural, and economic. Nobody is better positioned to trigger that debate than Rachel Maddow, and that’s exactly what she does in this startlingly insightful and well-written book. By stripping away the propaganda that distorts national security policy and laying bare its reality, Maddow has written one of those rare political books that can transform Americans’ understanding of what their government is actually doing.”
–GLENN GREENWALD, columnist for Salon and author of Liberty and Justice for Some

Rachel asked him to write the blurb about the book.

MSNBC coverage of the Syria/Afghanistan withdrawals is just sickening. It’s legitimately difficult to watch. I am angry that liberals are being taught by former Bush lackeys (Nicole Wallace, Bill Kristol) that removing troops from pointless wars must be some corrupt Russian plot.

How few people in politics, billionaires, and corporations control our country.

Jimmy Dore has been going after Rachel for some time as well as Pelosi and Schumer

article from 2005 “What’s Wrong With Cutting and Running”

12 years from 2005 until 2017. Same interval of time to take action on the planet.

No action on War and no action on Climate

What’s wrong with cutting and running?

Everything that opponents of a pullout say would happen if the U.S. left Iraq is happening already, says retired Gen. William E. Odom, the head of the National Security Agency during the Reagan administration. So why stay?

Marcy Wheeler, aka, Emptywheel has been continuing her excellent work and now has more than 150K twitter followers. I used to have her as a regular in my twitter feed of about 20, but took her out because of too many tweets. These days I have her up on a separate tab and follow her tweets about Russia, and Trump’s flunkies who are getting convicted of felonies. A gang of criminals who are destroying the government.

Just for the record, I agree that the dems and others are using hysteria about Russia to deflect from other issues, and I realize that Russia is a mafia state so expect bad things there as well.

In any case, a tweet just came through on her twitter feed that she is blocked by the DOD

Signs have gone up naming a section of a Los Angeles-area freeway as the President Barack H. Obama Highway.

The signs posted Thursday on State Route 134 apply to a stretch running from State Route 2 in Glendale, through the Eagle Rock section of Los Angeles to Interstate 210 in Pasadena.

The former president attended Occidental College in Eagle Rock from 1979 to 1981 and lived in Pasadena.

Some folks have snarking about it, but I prefer it over Ronald Reagan Highway in Indianapolis or Reagan Airport in DC.

magsview

FWIW

TheLeftistheCenter

Its a pretty minor freeway, more of a connector from the 101 to the 210 and runs through pretty much all upper class whitebread neighborhoods.

magsview

Nooooo!

Stacey Abrams joins board at liberal think tank

“I am honored to be joining the board of Center for American Progress,” she said. “Led by the extraordinary Neera Tanden, CAP has been at the forefront of progressive policy development and activism for years. Together, we will find and support bold solutions on health care access, voting rights, the economy, and other critical issues our nation faces.”

https://thehill.com/homenews/news/422128-stacey-abrams-joins-liberal-think-tank-board

Honestly, what the hell has CAP ever done to improve the economy???

And there’s that dreaded word, “access” (to health care). 🙁

TheLeftistheCenter

Well we now know what kind of Dem she is.

polarbear4

O.M.G. R.I.P. hopes for a progressive. Since I read about AIE and CAP K-I-S-S-I-N-G, I write off anyone associated.

Wonder if the J Dems are saying anything.

Hope you tweeted this.

Benny

CAP was more progressive when Podesta was in charge, believe it or not. Elizabeth Edwards was their spokesperson on Healthcare Now! initiative.

humphrey

Methinks that they just kept their hidden agenda more secreted. Podesta is and has never been an ally of progressives.

orlbucfan

Oh for chrissakes, quit calling GOPuke Lite “liberal.” Man, am I over it!!

TheLeftistheCenter

Actually ive been noticing on twitter that there seems to be a push to give the ‘liberal’ name to the dem establishment and make it something not progressive at all and make ‘progressive’ what we use to mean by liberal.

I think the idea is they have tarnished the liberal name so bad they can have it 😉

Benny

The liberals can’t have progressive.

Khashoggi editor: Please spare me the ‘Mattis stands up for US values’ takes

The editor of journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s at The Washington Post on Thursday blasted outgoing Defense Secretary James Mattis, saying he was part of administration efforts to “downplay” CIA evidence linking Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to Khashoggi’s death.

There could be one deal to be made: Trump hands in his resignation and let Pence sign the bill. (just kidding…)

polarbear4

I’m not sure which one I fear more.

Benny

I used to fear Pence, but I do believe now Trump is bonkers. Pence at least has a basic understanding of how the federal government works.

What concerns me more is that RGB is in the hospital again today. She had surgery on her lungs.

humphrey

This doesn’t sound good.

https://thehill.com/homenews/news/422476-ginsburg-undergoes-lung-procedure

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg underwent a procedure Friday in New York City to remove two nodules on her lung that were determined to be malignant.

The pulmonary lobectomy was performed at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center to remove the nodules from her left lung. They were discovered during tests in November to diagnose and treat rib fractures Ginsburg sustained from a fall.

There was no evidence of any remaining nodules after the operation was performed and pre-operation scans did not detect disease anywhere else in her body.

humphrey

wi61

Give her whatever it takes to keep her on the court until a Dem is President. Even Borg implants. 🙂 Cant let trumpcorp appoint another federalist right wing judge.

orlbucfan

She is literally willing herself to last 2 more years on the bench. I sure hope it is worth it. I salute Justice Ginsberg.

polarbear4

Borg implants–yeah, some nano stuff would work! LOL.

polarbear4

Awwwww, that’s powerful.

TheLeftistheCenter

I agree, though pence is a loon, he is a stable loon, where Trump is an unstable loon.

humphrey

Be careful what you wish for.

https://theintercept.com/2016/11/15/mike-pence-will-be-the-most-powerful-christian-supremacist-in-us-history/

THE ELECTION OF Donald Trump has sent shockwaves through the souls of compassionate, humane people across the country and the world. Horror that a candidate who ran on a platform of open bigotry, threats against immigrants and Muslims, and blatant misogyny will soon be president is now sinking in. Trump appointed a white nationalist, Steve Bannon, as chief White House strategist — which was promptly celebrated by the American Nazi Party and the Ku Klux Klan. Bannon and other possible extremist Trump appointees, such as John Bolton, a neocon who believes the U.S. should “bomb Iran,” and the authoritarian Rudy Giuliani, are now receiving much deserved public scrutiny.

The incoming vice president, Mike Pence, has not elicited the same reaction, instead often painted as the reasonable adult on the ticket, a “counterbalance” to Trump and a “bridge to the establishment.” However, there is every reason to regard him as, if anything, even more terrifying than the president-elect.

Pence’s ascent to the second most powerful position in the U.S. government is a tremendous coup for the radical religious right. Pence — and his fellow Christian supremacist militants — would not have been able to win the White House on their own. For them, Donald Trump was a godsend. “This may not be our preferred candidate, but that doesn’t mean it may not be God’s candidate to do something that we don’t see,” said David Barton, a prominent Christian-right activist and president of Wall Builders, an organization dedicated to making the U.S. government enforce “biblical values.” In June, Barton prophesied: “We may look back in a few years and say, ‘Wow, [Trump] really did some things that none of us expected.’”

TheLeftistheCenter

I agree Trump is doing some good things and isnt a religious loon, but im not sure its a bad thing americans get a taste of a real religious loon for a year or two, for it might be enough to prevent one ever winning in the future.

humphrey

I am far from sticking up for Trump. Just a word of caution that Pence would actually be an improvement due to his fundamentalist beliefs.

Edited to add:

Also he might be a stronger GOP candidate in 2020 due to his hidden resume.

wi61

That’s the part that really scares me, Pence in 2020. The Rightwing nutjob evangelical’s would show up in droves to vote. With trumpcorp running again some might sit it out(election)

TheLeftistheCenter

I’m not sure thats true that they would vote anymore than they already do, but there are still many republicans that are not religious loons that would very likely either not vote or if it were Bernie maybe some would even vote for him.

Benny

The evangelical RWingers voted Trump because of Pence.

orlbucfan

Pence has got nasty baggage on him like doofus. So they get impeached and who’s left? Nancy semi-senile Pelosi. What a world we live in.

Change of mission. Google deleted “do no harm”

Look at the changes in DOD

Mattis is an ingrained imperialist. He always asked for more money for the military and for more meddling abroad. One of Mattis’ little notice acts as Defense Secretary was a unannounced change in the mission of the Pentagon:

For at least two decades, the Department of Defense has explicitly defined its mission on its website as providing “the military forces needed to deter war and to protect the security of our country.” But earlier this year, it quietly changed that statement, perhaps suggesting a more ominous approach to national security.

The Pentagon’s official website now defines its mission this way: “The mission of the Department of Defense is to provide a lethal Joint Force to defend the security of our country and sustain American influence abroad.”

The Pentagon no longer “deters war” but provides “lethal force” to “sustain American influence abroad.” There was no public nor congressional debate about the change. I doubt that President Trump agreed to it. Trump will now try to recruit a defense secretary that is more aligned with his own position.

polarbear4

“Everyone loves to hate the left. But hating the left isn’t a good way to fight right-wing extremism. On the contrary, the conflation of alt-right Nazis with a supposed “alt-left” gives people like President Donald Trump and former Breitbart Chairman Steve Bannon rhetorical cover to slime their critics as the “real fascists.” Perhaps even worse, claiming that the left is especially prone to fascist tendencies allows folks on other parts of the political spectrum to ignore their own complicity when actual fascism crawls out of the mud.”
