Going into the debate, here’s the latest NBC/WSJ poll.
Only 6 candidates are at the podiums tonight. One of them isn’t Tom Steyer. Instead, he’s been replaced by another billionaire, Mike Bloomberg. He failed to qualify.

The debate is scheduled to be from 8-10 CT in Las Vegas. Moderators will be from NBC News, MSNBC, and The Nevada Independent. Not exactly Bernie neutral panel. But will they try to ask some substantive questions, or will it be more about how each candidate’s campaign will handle the electability issue, which was the overarching theme of the CNN town halls last night.
This will be the ninth Democratic debate but the first featuring former Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, and he is bound to face an avalanche of attacks from his rivals. Mr. Bloomberg’s rise in recent polls has coincided with the decline of Joseph R. Biden Jr., who needs a big debate performance to recover from stinging losses in Iowa and New Hampshire.
Senator Bernie Sanders, who appears in strong shape heading into Nevada’s caucuses on Saturday, simply needs to continue avoiding the scrutiny that some rivals have received in past debates. Tonight is also a chance for Senator Elizabeth Warren to regain her footing pre-Super Tuesday and for Pete Buttigieg to show he can speak to the concerns of a racially diverse electorate. The surge of Senator Amy Klobuchar in New Hampshire after one strong debate showed just how much these television spectacles can matter.
Should be entertaining, but I hope it’s more serious than that. So, do we take a sip everytime Bernie Bros comes up? Or Obama’s legacy issues? Or if the framing of the questions are about electability, not the substance of the issues?
Bar is open. More conversations to be found in the comments below.
Tip jar for Neil Young…
Neil Young calls Trump a ‘disgrace,’ backs Bernie for president
It would be interesting to find out who owns the publishing, and performance rights to that tune? Why can’t Young stop the orange fatso? For example, Paul Simon owns both areas of all his songs, air-tight. No way can anyone play them without his personal approval.
I see that Joe Biden is not wearing a necktie in the OP picture. Trying to pick up Yang voters? Inquiring minds and all that…
Buttigieg looks like an IBM consultant.
Buttegieg looks like Alfred E Neumann.
Trump thinks that as well.
Why not all 3
here you go enquiring minds
I cant help but think of Mr Bean when I see Mayo Pete
I like Mr. Bean a lot more
What was that old Zappa song… “brown shoes don’t make it”. I think of that every time I see Pete in black pants and those tan shoes. A lot worse than Obama’s tan suit!
Bloomie is one of the 10 richest men in the world, and can’t afford a fashion consultant. I mean, wrinkled cords with the suit jacket??? Not even a sport coat! I also see that both Bernie and Joe look LOTS healthier than Doomberg.
Bernie’s 1 year anniversary in the 2020 cycle.
i always have something else on debate night. bummer!
Lol @ ‘as for Bloomberg, he is an oligarch’.
After this segment theres an entire other one feat. Joe Crowley talking about how bad Bernie Bros are.
Looking for the degree that moderators give Bloomberg a tough time? Plenty of on-record information in the recent news.
There will be a number of the obligatory gotcha questions for Senator Sanders, so that’s a given.
There’s an expectation the “Bloomberg has a target on his back” — but what if the participants take the “paid-off” tack and ignore that target?
In an honest system this airing should end the Bloomberg effort, but with so much of the party/media systems now owned by Michael Bloomberg I wonder how permissive their leashes might be.
Wonder if Bloomie is pals with the NBC ownership cartel?
This is clearly a rhetorical question.

Isn’t Ralston the yahoo who spread that NV chair throwing tale back in 2016?
Yep. Falls under the TOP category of DBAD.
Dumb ? time: what is DBAD?
“Don’t be a dick”.
Yeah, he is respected and pretty suspect.
I expect all of the mods to go after Bernie, doing Bloomberg’s dirty work. I’m hoping Warren or Biden will catch a break to have a chance to go after Bb.
T and R, Benny!! I’ll have a double vodka tonic, heavy on the fresh lime. 🙂 Seriously, I’ll miss this one. I’m too worn out, and old age calls. 🙁 Where are The League of Women Voters? LOL. I will check here and the NC commentariat for the reviews tomorrow. Listened to Michael Moore’s ‘Rumble’ regarding Slimeball Bloomberg. Highly rec’d to everyone here at the Nest. Bernie better tear that yahoo a new you-know-what or I will be highly disappointed!! Bloomberg is a dangerous threat–period.
I hope you’ll stick around for a little while!
🙂 ^^^^ 🙂
What is NC?
Naked Capitalism-Yves Smith’s news blog and highly respected.
Ahhhhh, thank you! I know of that site of course, I like it too.
Thankfully truth-tellers are able to walk and chew gum at one time.
I’ve had CNN on the background for this past half hour, and of course, the concerns about Bernie’s health records, is he electable, and advice to Biden: go after Bernie, don’t bother with Bloomberg.
Was anyone aware that CNN hired Andrew Yang as a political commentator?
really? figures. buy em up
Signing off fellow Berners. Will check the reviews manana. NC has their live thread up, too. Go Bernie!!
