Trump Has Slapped His Brand On Images Of The White House To Sell At His Trump Store

President Donald Trump has emblazoned the “Trump” brand name on images of the White House to sell in his Trump Store and at the Trump International Hotel in the capital. The products give the bizarre impression that the White House is a Trump hotel.

The products among the new “Cherry Blossom Collection” now online bearing the White House image include soap, mugs, a T-shirt and a long-sleeved shirt. A line on the mug, which also includes a drawing of the Trump Hotel, reads simply: “Trump Washington D.C. Building.” A line beneath the White House on the T-shirt reads: “Trump Washington D.C.”

The Trump Organization last year used golf tee markers emblazoned with the presidential seal, but the seal is legally allowed only for official government business so they were removed.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the latest selling of the White House breached regulations, but Jessica Tillipman, a government ethics expert at George Washington University Law School, told the UK Independent that Trump profiting from his position was “bizarre and wrong.” The Trump Organization last year used golf tee markers emblazoned with the presidential seal, but the seal is legally allowed only for official government business so they were removed.

Trump should not only be fired, he should be put out of business.

Not the first. There were White House golf tees or something last year. They are an ethics violation, and if last year’s pattern holds, the WH will throw somebody under the bus for these.

I found that Tweet on Reddit (about the updated figure being 112,000) but can find no verification. There is just the first guy’s tweet with no evidence or documentation, so I will avoid that discussion for now.

Given the way the original number was released, it is very possible, but could be a trap for Bernie supporters.

Leu2500

TX Tribune on O’Rouke. Campaign says $6.1m, 128,000 donors. https://www.texastribune.org/2019/03/20/beto-orourke-bernie-sanders-unique-donors/

Bernie & the campaign have said over 225,000 for the $5.9M.

WindDancer13

The problem is the tweet. It states that the donors have been updated to 112,000 vs the originally reported 128,000.

I know what the original reports were. I am questioning the tweet’s sources for the updated number.

Leu2500
Leu2500
WindDancer13

Thank you! That is what I was looking for. I couldn’t find it in O’Rourke’s stuff and other people who used the new number failed to give any attribution as to where it came from and I could not find it in Internet search.

Sorry to be a bother about this, but as an English/Journalism major, I like sourced material. = )

WindDancer13

That does not show the updated 112,000 unique donors (changed from 128,000 unique contributions) which is what that tweet is claiming.

Decent coverage in the LA Times.

https://www.latimes.com/politics/la-na-pol-bernie-sanders-los-angeles-20190323-story.html

Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont called on Americans to “stand up to hatred of all kinds” on Saturday as he paid a visit to a Koreatown mosque to commemorate the victims of the mass shooting in New Zealand.

“Your background is different than mine,” the candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination told about 200 Muslims at the Islamic Center of Southern California. “What a joy it is to share that.”

Sanders followed the visit with a rally in Los Angeles, the second of three large events he planned in California this weekend. His final event will be a midday gathering in San Francisco on Sunday.

A Los Angeles Fire Department official estimated the downtown rally crowd Saturday at about 12,000.

Sanders drew on his biography to underscore his call for an economic revolution, noting that he grew up in a family that lived paycheck to paycheck.

“I know where I come from, and that is something I will never forget,” he said.

WindDancer13

Nothing on HuffPost about Sanders’ rallies today or the visit to the Islamic Center, but I did find this (and am truly shocked because it is positive for Bernie).

The Curious Link Between Bernie Sanders And Beto O’Rourke

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) hail from opposite sides of the country, are separated by more than three decades in age and represent different ends of the Democratic Party’s ideological spectrum. What they do share, apparently, is a knack for small-dollar fundraising.

It is no coincidence that the two candidates sit atop the 2020 fundraising primary.

O’Rourke first showcased his success in attracting small donors and volunteers during his 2018 Senate run, when he raised $80 million in what became the most expensive congressional election in history. A number of former Sanders staffers were key to this record haul.

O’Rourke tapped Middle Seat, a digital strategy firm founded by Sanders 2016 alumni Hector Sigala and Kenneth Pennington, to run his online fundraising and advertising. That firm, under Sigala’s direction, has returned for O’Rourke’s presidential run.

So have Becky Bond, who helped create Sanders’ “distributed” (volunteer-based) organizing team in 2016, and Zack Malitz, who ran Sanders’ digital operation in Texas in 2016. The pair led O’Rourke’s grassroots organizing program in 2018. [emphasis added]

Then it gets really interesting.

The same can’t be said about the 2020 race. Several Sanders supporters expressed puzzlement or dismay to HuffPost that their colleagues from 2016 would offer their talents to O’Rourke, who they noted is not even the second-most-progressive candidate in the field, after Sanders. Some even characterized the choice to work for O’Rourke as an abandonment of previously professed principles.

This is a favorite:

Some Sanders allies expressed doubt that Sanders-style grassroots organizing would succeed when divorced from his populist philosophy. A veteran of his 2016 effort who is not planning to work for a presidential campaign this time around told HuffPost, “There’s no question that [the Sanders alumni working for O’Rourke] knew how to organize and use this process on the Sanders campaign.

“The question is, can you use it behind a limp noodle of a candidate?” continued the former Sanders staffer, who asked for anonymity for professional reasons. “I don’t know that you can.”

Some more good stuff in this article, so worth a read. It is certainly more pro-Bernie than Beto as evident in Katz’s final remark regarding the staffers now switched to Beto:

“I don’t know what he stands for,” she added. “Maybe they know something we don’t.”

From the book

US Officials Increasingly Concerned Iran Could Attack Israel, May 18, 2018

CNN this past summer helpfully relayed concerns of “several” unnamed officials who warned Iran might be on the “cusp” of an attack against Israel. It might have been true. Who knows? The language of the piece seemed pulled from Team America World Police: “Iran is about attack Israel – isn’t that right, Intelligence?”

“Intelligence is not clear on when an attack could come and what form it would take, they said, with one official noting that ‘if there is an attack, it might not be immediately clear it’s Iran.’”

So there may or may not be an attack, and if there is one, it might not look at first like Iran is behind it, although you might want to assume they are, if it happens, and we’re not saying it will.

How do you confirm that?

polarbear4

Last one from book.

There was therefore a natural antipathy – at least a little – between some reporters and the self-appointed philosopher-kings who worked in secret agencies and spent their days deciding what the world map would look like.

That antipathy is gone today. Reporters, especially national ones, often come from the same schools as FBI and spy chiefs, and they worship the big brains at Langley. There’s an obsession with credentials and resumes that would have made reporters of the Sy Hersh school puke.

So when unnamed “officials” with secret clearances call reporters today, reporters wet themselves. They’ll print anything they’re told, and they don’t even need to be bribed or intimidated into doing it. This is a major reason these unconfirmable stories are so easy to place now.

The press used to be at least a bit of a tough crowd. Now, it’s a laugh track, and the joke is on us.

Bernie Sanders’ Los Angeles Rally Draws So Many, Overflow Crowd Fills City Hall Steps Across the Street

Bernie Sanders’ Los Angeles Rally Draws So Many, Overflow Crowd Fills City Hall Steps Across the Street ( For reference city hall was were Bernie was spelled out)

Today Bernie Sanders hosted what is likely his largest rally yet for his 2020 campaign. The rally took place in Los Angeles, California at the Grand Park downtown, across from City Hall. Exactly how many people attended isn’t yet known, but the numbers are significant since the park can hold from 25,000 to 50,000 people, depending on the setup. On top of that, 22,000 RSVP’d on Facebook for Sanders’ event in LA, and crowd size photos show a significant turnout. In fact, so many people showed up that an overflow crowd formed on the steps of City Hall across the street. An early report shared that 15,000 might have been there tonight, but it’s not yet clear if this is accurate or includes overflow crowds. We’ll update this story as more details are known. Here are photos and highlights from his rally today

Nice writeup in the LA Times.

https://www.latimes.com/politics/la-na-pol-bernie-sanders-los-angeles-20190323-story.html

The senator echoed that theme later in the day, telling an estimated 12,000 people at a downtown Los Angeles rally he was “shocked and disgusted” by the New Zealand shootings.

“As president of the United States, I will not have kind words to say about authoritarian leaders around the world who espouse bigotry and hatred,” Sanders told the crowd. “Together we will make the United States the leader in the world in the fight for democracy and human rights.”

Sanders, 77, who acknowledges he does not like to talk about himself, shared memories of crying when he was a boy as he read about the Holocaust.

“I never could understand why would people do such terrible and horrible things to people,” he said at the mosque.

He mentioned the killing of Native Americans by European settlers in early America, the enslavement of African Americans, prejudice against Asians, Irish and Italians, and the genocides of the 20th century, saying there was reason to hope the world would now understand “that we share a common humanity.”

“Who really stays up at night worrying that the color of your skin is darker than mine?” he said. “Who worries that your religion is different than mine?”

Sanders bemoaned hate crimes, the rise of authoritarianism and demagogues picking on minorities.

“Now is the time, as never before, for us to stand up to hatred of all kind,” he said. He did not mention President Trump, whom he has described as racist.

The invited audience greeted Sanders with frequent applause.

“I like that he unites people,” said Erica Schley Ali, 34, of La Cañada, a
Sanders supporter who brought her three young children to hear him speak. “Minorities especially. I think our country needs that.”

High school teacher Karima Razi, 54, a Sanders backer from Laguna Niguel, said she appreciated that his message at the mosque went beyond his usual economic agenda.

“It just shows that he has a vision that encompasses the best for everybody,”
Pshe said.

Jayapal is the one to watch to take over after Pelosi departs

https://www.politico.com/story/2019/03/22/jayapal-freshmen-dems-1231513

Jayapal’s colleagues describe her as a mentor with a maternal touch, helping to shepherd a raucous faction that includes a pack of freshman superstars under immense scrutiny on the national stage and even within their own caucus.

Her restraint on issues like impeachment and her signature “Medicare for All” bill has made her a trusted ally of Democratic leaders, even as she has also deployed her caucus’ 90-plus roster to occasionally force leadership’s hand.

Amid debate on House Democrats’ sweeping anti-corruption bill, for instance, Jayapal and her progressive colleagues demanded a provision that would require Trump to disclose 10 years of tax returns. Pelosi agreed.

“The fascinating thing about Jayapal is that she was elected two years ago and so she’s gone through this process,” Omar said in a recent interview. “When people are giving you advice, it’s from decades ago as a freshman. And so her advice is very fresh.”

Like Omar, Jayapal has faced death threats. She’s been vilified by her political opponents. She’s been the only woman of color in a room. Now, in Congress, Jayapal has helped guide the largest-ever group of freshman women of color — particularly the squad of progressives that is frequently under attack.

“I’ve been through that myself, so I know the fear of it, and I also know what it takes to steel yourself and get yourself through that,” Jayapal said.

Please make it so.

Too bad that you have to go to RT to get any coverage of the Yellow Jackets.

But the protests continue! Plenty of images and videos.

https://www.rt.com/news/454576-yellow-vests-france-protests/

Yellow Vest protests continue in France for the 19th straight weekend. In Paris, they have been banned from demonstrating on the Champs-Elysees, and those daring to violate the ban face fines.
Following the previous violent weekend, French authorities have banned the Yellow Vests from the most popular protest locations, including the Champs-Elysees in Paris, Pey-Berland square in Bordeaux, and the Capitole in Toulouse.

According to the latest official figures from the Ministry of Interior, some 40,500 people demonstrated across France, including 5,000 in Paris.

While the restrictions imposed by the authorities have seemingly scared off some protestors, many believe that it’s just a temporary setback and next week more people will take to the streets. Banning the Yellow Vests from certain locations won’t stop the protests, one of the main figures of the movement, Éric Drouet, told RT France.

WindDancer13

Hey, everyone! Did you hear? Kamala Harris held a rally today!!

And before a crowd of more than 2,400 people on the campus of Texas Southern University, a historically black college, she pledged the largest-ever federal investment in teacher pay — careful to stress the symbolism of the setting.

From: Harris and O’Rourke go straight for each other’s strongholds

Now this part, I am confused about.

This weekend it was O’Rourke’s turn: On Friday he rallied large crowd at South Carolina State University and met with a pair of prominent African-Americans in the state: Willie McLeod, a member of the “Friendship Nine” who fought against segregation in 1961 , and Steve Benjamin, the Columbia mayor and president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

First, notice there are no numbers on that “large crowd.” If I stood in my closet alone, it would be a large crowd.

The confusion, however, stems from terming South Carolina as a Harris “stronghold.” One would think that would be California…you know the state that is turning all out for Bernie Sanders.

Nothing on any Sanders’rallies.

humphrey

Not to be snippy but in the article that you quoted there is this.

O’Rourke has outpaced Harris and every other Democrat in fundraising in his first 24 hours, announcing last week that he had raised $6.1 million from more than 128,000 “unique contributions.” In an update late Friday, O’Rourke’s campaign said those contributions came from 112,000 individual donors, putting his average donation per person at about $55.

humphrey

ps. I just noticed that this had been clarified earlier. sorry.

polarbear4

I did not see the $55 before, so thanks.

polarbear4

“ If I stood in my closet alone, it would be a large crowd.” LOL

iirc, Kamala has strong sorority connection in the South.

WindDancer13

Somehow I doubt that sorority sisters are going to help her connect with working Blacks and as Nikko House and Tim Black have pointed out, she never lived the Black experience.

humphrey

A mere coincidence no doubt.🙄

https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/435458-hate-crimes-rose-by-226-percent-in-counties-where-trump

United States counties where President Trump hosted a campaign rally in 2016 saw a 226 percent increase in reported hate crimes compared to similar counties that did not host one, an analysis released by The Washington Post has revealed.

The analysis, which was published on Friday, was conducted by Ayal Feinberg, a Ph.D. candidate in political science at the University of North Texas, and Regina Branton and Valerie Martinez-Ebers, two political science professors at the university.

They said their research sought to explain how some of Trump’s rhetoric “may encourage hate crimes.”

The analysis examined whether there was a correlation between counties that held a Trump rally in 2016 and increased incidents of hate crimes in the months that followed such events.

“To test this, we aggregated hate-crime incident data and Trump rally data to the county level and then used statistical tools to estimate a rally’s impact,” the three wrote.
