4/10 News Roundup – Sanders To Oppose Pompeo’s Nomination For State; Nina Turner Talks Tuesday Voting & More
Sanders to oppose Pompeo’s nomination for State
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said Monday that he will oppose Mike Pompeo to lead the State Department days before his nomination hearing.
“Mike Pompeo is absolutely the wrong choice to serve as the United States’ top diplomat, and I will vote against him,” Sanders said in a statement.
Pompeo, who is currently CIA director, is slated to testify before the Foreign Relations Committee on Thursday.
Sanders isn’t a member of the panel and previously opposed Pompeo’s nomination to lead the CIA.
He added on Monday that “we need a secretary of State who will represent the best principles of the United States to the rest of the world.”
Sanders pointed to Pompeo’s position on climate change, “longstanding relationship with anti-Muslim extremists” and “hawkish” foreign policy views.
Mike Pompeo is absolutely the wrong choice for secretary of state. He is a supporter of the Global Gag Rule. He opposes LGBTQ rights. And as the top recipient of money from the Koch brothers, he's stymied action on one of our most serious security threats: global climate change.

It’s always nice to know that there are a few genuine public servants actually working for the public. 😉
After this tweet by Sanders, I saw someone on twitter joking about how long would it take before Hillary supporters rallied to Mike Pompeo’s side in protest against Sanders and guess what? It’s even worse than that!
Pompeo asks Clinton for advice as he preps for confirmation battle
The secretary of state nominee, who trashed his Democratic predecessor over Benghazi, isn’t taking any Senate votes for granted.
Hillary is giving Pompeo advice helping him get confirmed! What the freakin’ hell! Yay, let’s put the CIA in charge of our foreign policy!
Why would she do that?
Ahhhhh, I see, as long as he’s anti-Iran, he and Hillary (and Israel) have common ground.
nicely done.

Fabulous!

I agree with Tunde:
The Vindication of Dennis Kucinich -When he ran for president, he was ridiculed and dismissed. It turns out he was the future of American politics.
Like Mr. Friedlander below, I have problems with Kucinich. “If not always his administration”? Never ever ever his administration. Bernie appeals to the same voters and you don’t see him praising Trump’s inauguration speech. It’s not for nothing that Bernie made it clear that he was not endorsing Kucinich, it was just OR. That being said, on most issues, I’m closer to Kucinich than Cordray who seems to have the charisma of a wet rag.
I’ve found faults with him over the years as well but as you say, Cordray is awful. I believe Bernie’s exact quote was ‘Kucinich is a friend but I am not endorsing in this race’, but I’d have to dig up the link.
I wish Turner had run but hope that the decision not to entails some bigger plans in the future. After watching some old speeches from Jerry Springer I wouldn’t have been opposed to his campaign either… something even I had once mocked.
yeah, that’s a little weird about praising Trump’s speech. however, i would like to see more progressives speaking truth on Fox–that place where we all meet–our health, our children, our jobs, etc. They need to get to know us, not how Fox represents us.
I agree with you about lefties appearing on FOX, why not? Regular FOX viewers get an opportunity to see someone speak without the media filter (i.e. taking words out of context with the intent to twist them and skew them) and how can that be bad?
Centrist Dems mock us with cries of ‘purity!’, then make a huge deal if someone appears on FOX, as though CNN and MSNBC (spit) are somehow impartial and without an agenda.
Lefties can appear on Fox. The problem is when they agree with Fox. And Fox has a filter. Fox is a propaganda arm of the Republican Party. The other networks at least are only interested in the $$$
What I meant was that viewers are listening to the politician speak, not being told what the politician said.
The other networks are also propaganda outlets. Especially MSNBC, with the exception of two or three news readers who sometimes speak the truth.
Hope POX hasn’t infected him.
I’d add McGovern and Debs.

LOL. Something to agree with Joy on!
Its such a rarity that I had to post 🙂
Im about 99% certain she’d back Whitmer in this race, and is only bringing up Shri because he has overtaken her in some recent polling… but would be happy to be wrong.
His brand of yahoo is a bad one. multimillionaire/CEO/chem corp = major red flag.
And here we go again. Heartrending. and so frustrating!!!!!!! Good ol’ Dems, right there. Gotta keep the wars going. Gotta rule by proxy all over the world. Frack frack frack.
Good for you, Tucker!
Of course they did. I’m not running for reelection as a PCP.
