T and R x 4, jcb!! 🙂 Thanks for hosting our Weekend Nest.

Paul ADK

Sustenance is a human right. This involves food, clothing, shelter, and medical care. And to whatever extent our economic system falls short of all of that being readily available, the system needs to provide the shortfall. That means the government. Homelessness is the failure of a shredded social safety net. Government shredded it and government needs to fix it.

we have to keep the MIC grift going and (they hope) subjugate the world. no time to care for the homeless and increasingly, for Medicare/Medicaid patients. just a denial here, a denial there, and before you know it, you’re dead. :o)

One quibble with you, pb4. It’s not we, the folks on here, who support the BS MICC, the fascist warmongers, and the corruption. Mebbe I am just getting cranky from aging, but I resent that tag and consider it an insult. Believe me, I’ve been raising cain about this for quite some time and on other sites. It is NOT a slam against you personally. I hope you know that after the 9 years we’ve been jawing on here. 💜☮️💜

Video is powerful.

That is definitely FOR SURE! Muzzling journalists is always a sign of encroaching fascism. Check back throughout world history. 🌎✊

Hubster had the SCOTUS tRump immunity case on the tube yesterday. Alito is so dumb and so FRight, he didn’t even pay attention to the actual case. He is just as bad as Thomas. It will give ole maggotbrains the delay he desperately wants, and probably go back to the lower court. It will be up to We The People to kick these FRight fascist clowns to the curb. I really do feel so bad for the young folks.😢

Paul ADK

The argument was so theoretical in spots it was insane. The far right doesn’t want to hear about the specifics of this case, they’re more interested in the cosmic overreaching implications. That way they can stall out Trump’s federal cases until after the election.

Those implications? I just hope Biden isn’t thinking too unkindly toward them, should they decide that a president has total immunity for anything and everything he does. For the good of the country, and all. But I suspect it’s all about the stall.

A good interview explaining it from a more Eastern view.

https://www.rt.com/shows/whistleblowers/596419-bushnell-death-political-statement/

On February 25, 2024, a young active duty airman by the name of Aaron Bushnell went to the Israeli Embassy in Washington, declared that as a member of the US Air Force he could not be party to a genocide against the Palestinian people, doused himself with kerosene, and set himself on fire. He shouted “Free Palestine” five times until finally collapsing. He died later at a hospital. He was only 25 years old. On this episode of the Whistleblowers, John Kiriakou asks journalist and podcaster Esha
Krishnaswamy if Aaron Bushnell’s death was a bold political statement, or a simple suicide by someone suffering from mental illness.

They had those immolation death protests during Vietnam, too. Several of them and not just Americans. I still vividly recall it cos that has got to be one of the worse ways to die. Even if Bushnell suffered from mental illness, that will stick in a lot of people’s mind as a powerful protest.

to be fair, pretty sure the only people saying he was mentally ill are the corpo media. but who knows? hugely courageous, like Jesus, in a way. especially shouting “Free Palestine” until he couldn’t speak. i can’t imagine having that kind of resolve and faith. but Esha does ask others to join or start a movement instead of dying that way, if they are thinking of it.

Paul ADK

Anyone who sets themselves on fire and burns themselves to death is mentally ill. If anyone is even thinking about that they should seek help from a mental health professional immediately.

please watch the video. in the eastern tradition, fire is purification and to self immolate as the only way you believe you can positively affect the violence (as monks did during the Vietnam war), is the act of a spiritual soldier.

he may or may not have had a mental illness, like so many. I would say our ‘leaders” are much more mentally ill than him. blowing people to bits, day after day, all over the world.

PB i didnt belive that about self immolation, until i did some reading about religious aspects of it. I guess im a little more informed today than i was yesterday…

thanks, wi.

Religion has been used to justify all sorts of heinous acts throughout history, for as long as there has been religion, and history. This is the same logic that compels parents to train their young children in the use of suicide vests. You can make all sorts of arguments as to the surrender of the self for the greater good, and on the surface that all could sound very noble. Except that by the time of surrender, there is very little ‘self’ left, only weapon, only statement. That’s where the mental illness comes in.

I wonder if its like a cult like brainwashing where you get so deep into it that you lose all of your critic thinking skills and free thought.Like Jim Jones and Cult 45 followers. No matter the facts they believe what thier dear leaders tell them too and thier no convincing them otherwise. Granted their are those weak of mind and poor critical thinking skills that are the easy targets.

From the university’s perspective, it seemed like the perfect time for the police to move in and break up the students’ anti-genocide camp: 3 a.m.

George Washington University had given the students until 7 p.m. on Thursday night to clear out. Instead more than a thousand students from other area universities and other supporters flooded the university yard, forming a circle around around the camp.

As the time advanced beyond midnight the crowd dwindled, leaving the encampment less protected. It seemed logical that under the cover of darkness, with fewer media also present, the police would intervene, as they have on a growing number of campuses around the United States.

And that’s what the GWU president wanted. But the Washington mayor and the police brass refused, according to The Washington Post.
“D.C. police rejected pleas from George Washington University officials to clear pro-Palestinian demonstrators out of an on-campus encampment early Friday morning, saying they worried about the optics of moving against a small number of peaceful protesters, according to two officials familiar with the talks,” the Post reported.

It also has a map of all the University’s around the U.S. that have protests.

what wonderful cops! we always hoped they would one day join the people they were hired to serve and protect! wish I could send them flowers, or $ in case they get fired. I wish they would have just said, “bc genocide,” not “bc optics,” but i’ll take it!

#Election2024 US elites ideological offensive is so pathetic and transparent. In 2016 it was Russia election interference. Now Blinken says China is interfering in 2024 elections. Then there's the old 'dominoes' theory (if Russia defeats Ukraine they'll move on to Poland et. al)

Also, the inimitable Michael Hudson with Oksana Boyko, a host who often has people much more westward leaning on and believes that people who are “Worlds Apart” need to talk.

Shame on @universityofga, which can apparently only tolerate about 41 minutes of protest before calling the police – even after seeing GSP violently attack protestors on Emory’s campus last week. https://t.co/FGFN8XJqyg

the police really need to stop and think and feel before proceeding.

The fuzz need to knock off the storm trooper routine. And the fashions–wearing black when it’s 90 degrees with 100% humidity is a good way to croak from overheating. It’s so ridiculous, it’s tragically funny!
