too late for contact tracing in the US

there is a ton of info about Corona 19. I found these three to provide a window into what is going on in the US and the probably failure of early lockdown as well

these are written by a woman who is one of the three main people posting on Naked Capitalism. She has a friend she met at Oxford or somewhere in UK years ago. Her friend is a Canadian MD who has been in China for years, and then in Hong Kong for the last 15 years. The MD is interviewed in a medical publication for more about her background.

But the three posts of the journalist at Naked Capitalism are insightful.

The first one was on March 9. At the time already 500 cases reported in the US. This article could be a quick read if you have been keeping up with the spread of the virus. But it shows how quickly Hong Kong jumped on the problem. I think that the down play of the importance of masks is too harsh. Masks are very important.

The next article is on May 9. HK had not had a new case for 14 days so they isolated and did contact tracing. 5,000 people were contacted!! And many were tested. This is worth a read to see what it takes to track things down.

The city is now mulling easing its social distancing rules, after logging 1040 cases, and 4 deaths.

Hong Kong is one of the world’s most densely populated cities, with a population of roughly 7.5 million people, and is adjacent to mainland China, the place where COVID-19 originated.

Compare Hong Kong’s record with that of another densely populated city of roughly the same size, with 8.5 million residents: New York. There, the city is nowhere near being able to lift its lockdown, and has logged 168,845 cases and 18,706 deaths in the city itself – and those numbers are still climbing. (To sharpen the comparison between the two places, I’m only including cases in the five boroughs, and not including any cases in the greater NYC metropolitan area, including NJ, nor in NY state.)

yesterday article posted. Yesterday HK had 4 deaths and about 1,500 cases

T and R, jcb!! 🕊👍 Oh boy, you will hit a major nerve with wi61.

Grrrrrrr!!!!!! but not with jcb 🙂

Needless to say, the first person I thought of when I saw this was you.

Its so depressing that a state that used to lead with progressive values or its history has been decimated in just 10 years. Were a shell of our former selves.

Oh man, it’s hard to believe still now how quickly the tide turned (to the dark side).

But, in my heart, I still feel like there’s hope, because most of those progressives in Wisconsin are still true and, ultimately, even with all that’s gone on, I think that they will prevail.

What do you think about Ben Wikler?

Tips for @jcitybone for these great OTs!
