Poor WaPo. One less talking point against Bernie


Unionized organizers for the presidential campaign of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) approved a pay raise proposal from management late Monday, following a tense internal standoff in which employees had argued they were not being paid the wages Sanders advocates in his rhetoric.

Sanders confirmed the deal in an interview Tuesday on CNN, saying he was “happy to tell you . . . that offer was just accepted.” Details of the plan were not immediately known.

Eager to hear what he thinks of Amazon worker reality. Probably the $15 Bernie got Amazon to offer is way too generous.



I cannot watch the video right now, but I do like the banner at the top of that image, so hopefully all this ridiculous brouhaha will help exposure for Bernie’s planned trip to Canada to buy cheaper drugs!

Now that the word is out that staffers’ hours to be limited to 40 hours/week to keep the hourly wage at a minimum of $15/hr, I’ve seen some impossible-to-please people say, “Now Bernie’s forcing his workers to work two or three jobs to make a living wage!”.

the union contract to which Sanders agreed really does guarantee decent pay and benefits to its workers. And – at least in this case – Bernie Sanders isn’t the one being a hypocrite. Perhaps some of his workers are. So are some of his critics.

A political campaign exists for no more than 18 or 20 months, hardly time for long-range planning. No chance for labor-saving devices; not much chance to find efficiencies. A campaign cannot accept a lower profit margin because it has no profit. Its goal is not profit, but winning the election. It cannot raise prices for the goods and services it sells, for it does not sell goods or services.

In theory, it can raise more money. But campaigns are always raising all the money they can.

In this case, Bernie Sanders is neither a hypocrite nor a heartless employer. He and his campaign honored the contract they signed. The complaints, it seems, came not from the union, but from a segment – small or large we do not know – of field workers who were dissatisfied with the agreement.

As to the significance of this flappette to the rest of the world, to economic policy, or to the wisdom of raising the minimum wage: there is none.

Field organizers from Sen. Bernie Sanders’ unionized presidential campaign reached a payment agreement with campaign management late Monday.

The union representing staffers, the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 400, ratified by vote an agreement instituting a $42,000 annual salary and a 50-hour work week. The campaign also provides field staffers with 100-percent health care coverage

Jonathan Williams, the communications director for the UFCW Local 400, told CBS News that the unflattering report misrepresented the negotiations.

“This was an amicable process. Both parties acted in good faith. Everything was running smoothly,” Williams said.

Sanders told the Des Moines Register that he was disappointed that details from the negotiations were leaked to the media. Williams agreed.

“It was unfortunate because we were in the middle of a process. A snapshot of it in the press really doesn’t paint a complete picture,” Williams said. “We don’t know why someone would do something like that.”


No telling what kind of crap is planted into Bernie’s campaign. He’s got more enemies now than he had in 2016. I hope a 1964 tsunami is in the works, and the people come out in droves to vote. Being an optimist as usual.


Being a ‘silver lining’ person, as I mentioned above, I hope that all this brings more attention to the reality that even $15/hour is really NOT a living wage!

It’s like, okay all you Bernie critics who are denouncing him over ‘only’ paying them $15/hr, how does $20/hr sound??

Rashida Tlaib Says Federal Minimum Wage Should Be $20 per Hour, Not $15

While some lawmakers fight to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour, Rashida Tlaib said that is not enough and it should be raised even higher. The freshman Democratic representative from Michigan said Sunday the minimum wage should be between $18 and $20 an hour.

Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-Vt.) 2020 presidential campaign has been hit with an unfair labor practice complaint alleging illegal employee interrogation and retaliation against staffers.

The July 19 complaint to the National Labor Relations Board, filed by an unnamed individual in Indiana, was posted to the agency’s website late July 22. It comes as tense negotiations between the Sanders campaign and the union representing staffers recently boiled over publicly. The Washington Post reported July 23 that unionized organizers for the campaign had won a pay raise and reached a compromise to reduce the hours of some workers.

A copy of the charge has not yet been made public, but the agency’s July 22 docket lists five potential violations of the National Labor Relations Act. The charge also alleges that the campaign unlawfully discharged an employee, modified a labor contract, and engaged in illegal discipline.

Charges to the NLRB can be filed by “any person” and don’t have to come from a campaign staffer or someone directly affected by the alleged labor law violations, according to the board’s website. The NLRB has yet to make a determination about whether there is any merit to the allegations.
