3/26 Which is More Important Today–Stephanie Clifford, Russia, or Progress?

The Progressive Wing Posted on March 26, 2018 by BennyMarch 27, 2018

Last night, TOP had a liveblog going about Anderson Cooper’s Stephanie Clifford interview on 60 Minutes last night. I discovered it on the Recent Story list while looking for the new series, These Revolutionary Times. Also, I found another FP post by GOS himself, who provided a quick transcript from CBS. To me, it is pitiful but TOP is starving for ratings. I’m surprised they didn’t solicit quite the polling that CNN did: Source: CNN Mind one, I did see the interview when it was being broadcasted last evening. The only thing that was particularly interesting was the timing of … Continue reading →

3/14 News Roundup – Pipeline Protestors Decry State Surveillance, Texas Dems Worry Bigger Rifts Ahead With National Party & More

The Progressive Wing Posted on March 14, 2018 by LieparDestinMarch 14, 2018

Via DemocracyNow!: Critics of Bayou Bridge Pipeline in Louisiana Decry State & Company Surveillance of Protesters In Louisiana, newly disclosed documents reveal a state intelligence agency regularly spied on activists opposing construction of the Bayou Bridge pipeline, which would carry nearly a half-million barrels of oil per day across Louisiana’s wetlands. The documents show the Louisiana Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness regularly drafted intelligence memos on anti-pipeline activists, including a gathering of indigenous-led water protectors who’ve set up a protest encampment along the pipeline’s route. Other newly revealed documents show close coordination between Louisiana regulators and the … Continue reading →

12/5 News Roundup – Carina Driscoll Announces Run for Burlington Mayor, Net Neutrality Protests Planned Nationwide & More

The Progressive Wing Posted on December 5, 2017 by LieparDestinDecember 5, 2017

Bernie Sanders’ Stepdaughter Runs For His Old Mayor’s Job

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders’ stepdaughter announced Monday that she is running for mayor of Burlington, Vermont, following in the footsteps of the independent senator and former presidential candidate who launched his political career from the office.

Carina Driscoll, 43, said she will run as an independent in the March election against incumbent Mayor Miro Weinberger, a Democrat, saying she will work to bring Burlington “to again be that vibrant, forward-thinking city where we are all so proud to live.”

“I feel like we need to bring some new leadership into city hall and we need to change the trajectory we’re on,” Driscoll said from her office at the Vermont Woodworking School in Fairfax, which she founded. “And I really feel we need to bring people together again and have mutually respectful challenging conversations and consult with people throughout the city about the right direction for Burlington in a way that I think we’ve been failing to do.”

She cited the handling of the sale of the city’s Burlington Telecom utility, saying that there wasn’t enough opportunity for public input.

..

Sanders said he and his wife, Jane, are very proud of Carina and all her accomplishments and want to be respectful of her desire to do this on her own.

“So, today is Carina’s day and her words and her ideas should be the focus, not anyone else’s,” he said in a statement.

“I certainly am walking in his footsteps but I definitely am on my own path,” Driscoll said.

Ohio is an Open-Carry State Except If You’re an African-American Male

The Progressive Wing Posted on July 21, 2016 by LieparDestinJuly 21, 2016

The Republican National Convention is underway just a few miles from the park where 12-year-old Tamir Rice was shot dead by police in November of 2014 while he was playing with a toy pellet gun. We speak with Rev. Dr. Jawanza Karriem Colvin, the pastor of the Olivet Institutional Baptist Church, which is one of the largest African-American congregations in Cleveland, about how city officials and activists responded to the killing. He was recently profiled in a Politico report titled “The Preacher Who Took on the Police.”
