Two days left until Election Day in Georgia. Which, we are told, will determine control of the US Senate. Mitch or no Mitch, that is the question.
So how’s it going? Plus ca change meme chose, or whatever the French is for “the more things change the less change there seems to be.”
The NY Times has a piece on page 10 this morning called “Asian-Americans can Tip Elections but For Which Party?” The same article is referenced on the front page as “The Overlooked Voters.”
Since readers of this blog are familiar with the Bernie Blackout, what I’m writing will come as no surprise. Andrew Yang and his Yang Gang and his family have been living in Georgia for the last 6 weeks or so. They have knocked on countless doors, made innumerable texts and phone calls. Appeared with Warnock and Ossof countless times.
The NY Times finds that unworthy of a mention.
In other news, the polling is razor-thin and unreliable in any case.
My gut feeling is that Mitch will pull this out. I so want to be wrong.
Please weigh in on Georgia, especially if you can cheer us all up a bit.
Also fwiw the Squad’s leverage increases exponentially if Democrats control the Senate and Biden and Pelosi can’t use McConnell as an argument for everybody to get in line. Control of the Senate is decided in 2 days.
The early vote has definitely skewed Dem as compared to the general. Black numbers are up. Dem suburbs are up, and rural Republican N Georgia is down. It remains to be seen if Republicans can make it up on Election Day
An Emory University professor has spent a lot of his time “tracking” many of the more than 3-million voters who have cast early or absentee votes in the ongoing Senate runoff election.
Channel 2 News anchor Justin Wilfon spoke Friday with Emory University professor Bernard Fraga who has been spending much of his time analyzing those voters. Fraga says he was able to use information about those voters to compile a good look at which candidates are likely doing well and which are not.
“What we’re trying to understand is the demographics of who turns out in the runoff compared to the demographics of who voted in the November general election,” Fraga said.
The Associate Professor of Political Science and one of his undergraduate students spent the past few weeks developing a tracking system for Georgia’s Senate runoff election.
Fraga says the charts and graphs they developed reveal good news for Democrats.
“Indeed, looking at specific demographic categories, specifically race/ethnicity and age group, we’re seeing a boost in turnout specifically for African Americans that implies that Democrats might have a shot at winning these elections,” Fraga said. The professor says data from early voting in the runoffs revealed something he said was remarkable.
More than 100,000 new voters cast ballots. He says those are people who didn’t take part in November’s General Election, and that’s potentially another good sign for Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock.
“The new voters coming in are very likely to be disproportionately Democratic, younger, and have a higher share of a minority population in the overall turnout group,” Fraga said.
Early vote numbers are surely encouraging. 100,000 NEW voters!

Cheer up NYCVG! I’m in GA. And if the number of texts, phone calls, hand written post cards, slick flyers, etc from both local and national is any indication, the dems are on this. Just went to count the slick flyers from yesterday’s mail, 6 of them, including one hand written post card (published by NYSUT) from a NY teacher appealing to me as a retired NY teacher to elect Ossoff and Warnock. Smile. I don’t watch tv but my sister tells me the dem ads are far more appealing and keeping up with the rethugs. The door knocking and early voting in dem districts is phenomenal. Driving on a highway in Gwinnett county (which is slowly becoming majority minority) a few days ago, I’m waving at kids waving signs for Warnock and Ossoff. I’m pumped. If the rethugs win this, it will be by theft. Of course, that is something that is not below them.
I’ll be checking in later on, y’all. 🙂 I’m a Tampa Bay Bucs fan, and the suckers are FINALLY going to the playoffs. LOL. So, today is a 1PM game and closes the regular season.
You can have your Anonymous Republican Frets About Trump story, I'll take @AmyEGardner obtaining audio of the president asking Georgia's Secretary of State to fabricate enough votes to swing the election.
This tape of the Trump phone call is amazing. Unless you’re drunk on the Kool Aid, it’s glaringly obvious they just want to cheat. That’s it. Nothing clever. Nothing about patriotism or some higher calling. They’re just trying to cheat. https://t.co/3TOVetI6J5
I’ve survived sexual assault, police abuse, domestic violence, and being unhoused and uninsured. That's not a unique pain I carry. It's one that so many of us live with each day.
Today, I take my seat in Congress to fight for a world where nobody has to endure that pain. pic.twitter.com/mOGyAqF7IE
I won’t be sworn in as a Member of Congress until tomorrow, but I couldn’t resist stopping by our office tonight. Seeing my name on the wall still doesn’t feel real.
Thank you all for joining me on this journey. Tune into @CSPAN tomorrow at noon ET to watch as I take my oath! pic.twitter.com/0knSarkoIU
this is absolutely fucking pathetic. Cuomo and Deblasio deeply suck, but this goes beyond them. this is what happens when you whittle down the state’s abilities for everything except rapid troop deployment. we don’t even notice it! the standard is nothing working https://t.co/KfztX1GpLa
The NYC Public Hospital System has 11 huge hospitals.
NONE of them are currently offering vaccinations.
There are however, long lines at every testing place. WTF?
Our politicians seem more interested in closing our businesses and schools, shutting us up in our homes and ending our lives, or at least our normal lives, than they are in stopping this Virus.
I know this seems like a bad idea but public health experts have explained that the real pandemic is Pelosi not being reelected as Speaker. https://t.co/b6sRoIviXU
House members who have been exposed to the coronavirus are being provided with a section in the House gallery to allow them to participate in the vote to elect a new Speaker.
Dr. Brian Monohan, the attending physician, released a statement saying that a “secure enclosure” has been put in place to allow members who are quarantining to “fulfill their Constitutional duties.”
While Democrats implemented proxy voting last year amid the pandemic, all members have to be present in the chamber to partake in the vote to select the next Speaker of the House.
“Upon the direction of the Office of the Attending Physician and the House Sergeant at Arms, a secure enclosure has been erected in Gallery 4 of the House Chamber to allow Members who are in quarantine status to fulfill their Constitutional duties,” the statement from Monohan said.
Feds may cut Moderna vaccine doses in half so more people get shots, Warp Speed adviser says
The federal government is in talks with Moderna about giving half the recommended dose of the company’s Covid-19 shot to speed up immunization efforts, the head of the Trump administration’s vaccine rollout said on Sunday.
Operation Warp Speed chief adviser Moncef Slaoui said there is evidence that two half doses in people between the ages of 18 and 55 gives “identical immune response” to the recommended one hundred micorogram dose, but said the final decision will rest with the FDA.
I haven’t been able to verify that.🤔 Hopefully it is not just clickbait from Niko.
Aint Supposed to Die A Natural Death
I just looked at this thread from Niko and club. Wow! they come down hard on anyone who doesn’t think like them. And this is the guy that thought that the woman who supported Modi’s discriminatory policy in India (Tulsi Gabbard) would make a great president of the US. Phew.
Rep. Jared Golden (D-Maine) was the first in his party to cast a vote against Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), voting for Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-lll) instead.
Rep. Conor Lamb (D-Pa.), who voted for former Rep. Joe Kennedy (D-Mass.) in 2019, cast his vote for House Democratic Caucus Chair Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.).
Those three didn’t vote at all initially. AOC definitely voted for Pelosi when they went back to the non voters. Don’t know about the other two, but I’m sure Lee is voting Pelosi
Based on this it appears Bush and Lee voted for Pelosi. There was one extra Dem voting for Pelosi than reported in the CNN quorum numbers
CNN reports present of 220 D and 208 R during quorum call. So the majority is 215 votes in the case of some Rep-elect being absent. That way, 5 defections are also maximum allowed.
Speaker Vote. Pelosi 216 McCarthy 208 Others 2 Present 3. 4 not there
Spanburger still pissed about voters who want MfA, low prices on prescriptions, free college tuition, and challenging the status quo? I guess she threatened Pelosi?

IF Dems control Senate.
Big F**** IF.
Definitely
I’ll just say fingers crossed and hoping for the best. Nutering Moscow Mitch would be the best New Years gift America could get!!!!
Yes. He certainly doesn’t get neutered because KY runs clean elections.

Tip Jar for NYCVG
Thank you my Progressive buddies.

I bet the Yang Gang could have organized an effective Vaccine Innoculation Effort in NYC.
i feel like a liberal i’m so mushy and proud.
Beautiful!!!
Lots more room under this tent, let add some more in 22
This does not seem like the way to go????😮😲

Live vote for speaker
It is only my cynical opinion.🤔
But it appears as if the progressives are giving cover for the blue dogs and other centrists votes.
Curious what they will get in return?

3:55 p.m.
Democratic Reps. Mikie Sherrill (N.J.), Elissa Slotkin (Mich.) and Abigail Spanberger (Va.) each voted “present.”
Spanburger still pissed about voters who want MfA, low prices on prescriptions, free college tuition, and challenging the status quo? I guess she threatened Pelosi?
And don’t forget, Defund the Police.
