Thanks pb4 for creating this thread.

On the day before Labor Day Bernie was not considering as a vacation. He was just warming up for his Presidential run.😁

T and R, pb4!! I coined that saying about ‘the usual excellent suspects’ cos I told LD you guys (gender neutral) would help out. That was 4 years ago. I wish Bernie would take a break. I know he’s on a mission, but he forgets he’s still human. 🙁

WindDancer13

My friends (female) in high school used to call me out for calling them guys as a group. I am glad to see that it has finally caught on. = )

Tyrannocaster

I’m told it’s passé now. On Twitter, they all use “y’all”, which is really weird to me, as I’m not from the South.

WindDancer13

Lol, that is another one that I use regularly. I just tell people I AM from the South . . . southern California.

And since laborers tend to be consumers as well, here is another* example of well-informed (-on) consumers: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/amazon-google-smart-speaker-john-borthwick-122503661.html

* A recent example of which is the reveal of always-on iPhone screening by off-shore and other contractors. Oops! That Darn Cat is getting out of the bag.

Even though the article is slanted towards Biden it does make a point.

https://www.politico.com/story/2019/09/02/black-voters-sanders-biden-2020-1479234

Why black voters are backing 2 old white guys.

A divide among African Americans between Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders has major implications for the race heading into the fall.

ROCK HILL, S.C. — A generational divide among black voters is persisting in the Democratic primary — between the two old white men.

Joe Biden has amassed a staggering lead among older African Americans, commanding nearly two-thirds support of black voters 65 and older in the most recent Morning Consult poll. Bernie Sanders is the favorite of black millennials, though his margin with that group is much smaller. Among all black voters, Biden is leading Sanders, 41 percent to 20 percent.

Biden and Sanders have maintained their edges even as other candidates — including two African American senators, Kamala Harris and Cory Booker, have courted black voters more aggressively in recent months. Though opinions could change in the runup to voting, the preferences of African Americans this deep into the campaign has major implications for the election: As black voters go, so goes the mantle of Democratic front-runner — and likely the presidential nominee.

Happy Labor Day everyone. Thanks PB for the post!

https://www.commondreams.org/news/2019/09/02/us-complicit-nightmare-says-sanders-after-trump-backed-saudi-coalition-kills-over

In what was described as its deadliest attack on Yemen this year, the U.S.-backed Saudi-led coalition on Sunday killed more than 100 people with airstrikes on a detention center in Dhamar city, forcing aid workers to divert medical supplies intended for the nation’s cholera epidemic to treat victims of the bombing.

Franz Rauchenstein, head of the the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation in Yemen, which responded to the attack and searched for survivors under the rubble, called the bombing “disturbing” and a likely war crime.

“The location that was hit has been visited by ICRC before. It’s a college building that has been empty and has been used as a detention facility for a while,” Rauchenstein told AFP. “To hit such a building is shocking and saddening—prisoners are protected by international law.”

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate who led the War Powers effort in the Senate, said Sunday that “U.S. bombs, logistical support, and intelligence for the Saudi dictatorship’s airstrikes make us complicit in this nightmare.”

“Congress has declared this war unconstitutional,” tweeted Sanders. “We must now stand up to Trump and defund all U.S. involvement in these horrors.”

One more issue where Bernie was a rare voice against the country’s worst impulses.

https://www.politico.eu/article/sadiq-khan-london-mayor-mocks-donald-trump-for-dealing-with-hurricane-out-on-the-golf-course/

Sadiq Khan renews beef with US president, criticizing him for canceling trip to Poland to commemorate start of World War II.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan renewed his rivalry with Donald Trump, mocking the U.S. president for “dealing with a hurricane out on the golf course” over the weekend.

Khan’s comments came after Trump pulled out of a trip to Poland to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the start of World War II to concentrate on Hurricane Dorian, but then played golf at his private club in Virginia.

“He’s clearly busy dealing with a hurricane out on the golf course,” Khan, who traveled to Poland to attend a commemoration ceremony on Sunday, told POLITICO’s London Playbook.

Khan also took aim at the U.S. president for emboldening racists to speak out from the fringes of society.

“These people have been inspired by mainstream politicians who subscribe to their point of view,” Khan said. Trump “is a guy who amplifies racist tweets; amplifies the tweets of fascists; says things that are deeply objectionable. If I don’t stand up and call that out I think I’m doing a disservice to Londoners who chose me as their mayor.”

tRump is a dimwitted entitled dumbazz. Mar-A-Lago may have escaped Dorian, but there are 2 more months left in the storm season down here. His dump is very close to the water. A major storm surge would wipe it out.

If I have my times right, I think this begins soon, 1pm EST I believe:

‘Wish You Were Here’: Roger Waters performs in support of Assange in London

Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters is performing his classic hit song ‘Wish You Were Here’ in support of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, at a demonstration outside the UK Home Office [Interior Ministry] on Monday, September 2.

WikiLeaks confirmed the performance in a tweet on August 31. Award-winning journalist and filmmaker John Pilger will also speak “in solidarity with Britain’s political prisoner.”

watch here, hopefully:

Have you all ever seen this? I had not.

This hidden mural on South Ashland Avenue tells the story of one of the most radical labor unions

The walls of the ‘Solidarity’ mural — which will be part of the Chicago Architecture Center’s annual Open House Chicago tour in October — are plastered with brightly colored scenes of workers’ struggles and triumphs.

SMH! But after all it is Texas.

https://www.politico.com/story/2019/09/01/shooting-rampage-texas-gun-laws-loosened-1479451

Several new firearm laws took hold in Texas on Sunday, loosening restrictions as to when and where weapons can be carried, one day after the state was rocked by a shooting in which a gunman killed seven and wounded at least 21.

A man opened fire during a traffic stop in Midland, Texas, on Saturday afternoon, firing at random as he drove down the highway and into Odessa. The shootings came less than a month after a gunman killed 22 people in El Paso and wounded two dozen more. Texas has seen 4 of the 10 deadliest mass shootings in modern history.

As some legislators and Democratic presidential candidates renew calls for gun control, the state is making it easier to carry guns in churches, schools, apartments and disaster zones.

I just posted an essay about Biden and the media’s pattern of coverage. It was difficult, but most snark, but not all, has been squelched.

Oddly, the article ignored Biden

https://thehill.com/policy/energy-environment/459480-democrats-to-duke-it-out-for-top-climate-candidate-title

Ten Democratic presidential contenders will make the case for their respective climate agendas Wednesday when they compete for the title of top environmental candidate.

The seven-hour forum on CNN, with each participant speaking separately, will offer White House hopefuls the chance to emerge as the leading supporter of environmental defense and climate action in the wake of Washington Gov. Jay Inslee’s withdrawal from the 2020 race. The Democratic governor’s platform was almost exclusively centered on combating climate change.

Already, several environmentalists argue that Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has filled the void left by Inslee’s departure.

“When it comes to the plans being put out by the candidates, the one plan that I’ve seen that is comprehensive, that is economywide, that meets the demands is the one put forward by Sen. Sanders,” said Mitch Jones, climate and energy program director at Food & Water Action.

“Others have made good points. There are other plans that have components that need to be done,” he said. “But the Sanders plan is the plan that really does set the benchmark. It’s aggressive, but it’s what we need to do.”

Yang’s climate plan, unveiled in August, relies heavily on the use of nuclear power to achieve 100 percent clean energy and calls for constructing more reactors. Nuclear energy is a divisive topic in the environmental community, with many opposed to it because of the toxic waste it produces.

“I think Yang’s approach to climate change is deeply problematic,” said Auster, who favors Sanders’s plan and its call to retire all nuclear reactors.

“He’s a tech guy. He’s searching for tech solutions in a way that’s unnecessary,” Jones said of Yang.

Harris and Booker have both offered up environmental justice plans but have not unveiled sweeping environmental plans like those from Sanders or Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), who put forth a climate change moonshot plan before she dropped out of the race.

“I think [Harris] has a strong record in the Senate around environmental justice and other climate issues,” said Lauren Maunus, a policy and political coordinator for the Sunrise Movement, the youth climate action group that helped shape the Green New Deal.

But Harris also “has a list of vague priorities on her website,” Maunus argued.

Harris did earn some cred with environmentalists over the summer when she introduced legislation with Ocasio-Cortez that would take the first step toward implementing the Green New Deal.

But activists want to see a comprehensive plan from Harris as well.

She also stirred controversy when she initially planned on skipping the CNN climate forum. Her campaign originally announced that despite qualifying for the event, Harris was booked to attend a fundraiser in California the same night. They later reversed course and rescheduled the fundraiser.

Climate change activists credit Warren with being the first candidate to commit to prohibiting new oil and gas leases on public lands, a move that “set off a nice little trend,” Schleeter said. She has also introduced smaller plans that touch on climate and energy goals, including a green manufacturing plan released in June.

Some say the piecemeal approach lays out how climate change has become an issue across several sectors.

“We see it as a deeply intersectional issue,” Marienau said. “At the same time, there are pieces missing from [Warren’s] platform. We’re waiting to hear where she stands on fracking and natural gas.”

Warren’s campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
