Senate rejects Biden’s call to release any potential records on alleged misconduct

Tara Reade has accused Biden, who was then a senator from Delaware, of sexually assaulting her in 1993, although she has said a formal complaint she filed that year describes only harassment, not assault. Biden, who denies all the allegations, has responded in part by calling on the Senate to release all the documentation pertaining to the complaint that Reade says she filed.

Responding to a letter Biden sent Friday, the secretary of the Senate’s office, on the advice of legal counsel, concluded that the “Secretary has no discretion to disclose any such information as requested.” The office, which did not confirm or deny the complaint’s existence, based its decision in part on a review of confidentiality requirements.

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/495971-trump-administration-projecting-3k-daily-coronavirus-deaths-by-june

The Trump administration is projecting that the United States could see up to 3,000 deaths per day from the coronavirus on June 1, according to internal documents obtained by The New York Times.

Data and modeling from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) show that the federal government is expecting the number of cases and deaths associated with the pandemic to continue mounting, even as President Trump and other officials push for states to lift restrictions meant to slow the spread of the virus in favor of reopening businesses.

The Times posted the documents, which show the CDC and Federal Emergency Management Agency forecast a steady increase in the number of new cases per day. The projections show the U.S. reaching 200,000 new cases daily by June 1 with a daily death toll of roughly 3,000. The current daily death toll varies, but typically falls between 1,500 and 2,000.

The report warns that the Great Lakes region, Southern California and parts of the South and Northeast are all seeing increasing case loads.

Stephen Miller has probably noticed that the virus kills more people of color and poor folks, and has decided that’s a good thing.

https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/495981-loeffler-books-4m-in-ads-in-georgia-senate-race

Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.) is poised to spend roughly $4 million on a series of ads pushing back on criticism of her financial transactions and touting her efforts to respond to the coronavirus pandemic.

The ad buy is the most expensive yet from Loeffler, a multimillionaire former financial services executive who has already vowed to spend $20 million of her own money on the Senate race.

The three new ads are set to launch Tuesday on broadcast, cable, radio and digital platforms across Georgia, Loeffler’s campaign said Monday.

The ads characterize recent attacks on Loeffler as “liberal lies,” while touting her response to the coronavirus pandemic, including donating her Senate salary to charities involved in relief efforts.

https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/495957-secretary-of-senate-declines-to-disclose-information-on-tara-reade-complaint

Secretary of Senate declines to disclose information on Tara Reade complaint against Biden.

The Secretary of the Senate has informed former Vice President Joe Biden that it has “no discretion to disclose” the existence of former aide Tara Reade’s complaint of sexual assault against the then-senator in 1993.

Biden gave his first media interview Friday denying Reade’s allegation that he pushed her against a wall and sexually assaulted her in 1993 when she worked for him.

On Friday, he wrote to Secretary of the Senate Julie Adams asking “that you take or direct whatever steps are necessary to establish the location of the records of this Office, and once they have been located, to direct a search for the alleged complaint and to make public the results of this search.”

The office in a statement provided to The Hill said the Senate legal counsel had advised the “Secretary has no discretion to disclose any such information as requested in Vice President Biden’s letter of May 1.”

One caveat is that I doubt that Biden is sharp enough to this but his advisors certainly are.
