Are you on Twitter? The NoDAPL Water Protectors are asking for help to create a Twitter Storm climaxing during the debate, asking why they are not talking about the Dakota Access Pipeline and the need to protect our water.
Here’s the text of their request on Facebook, from Noelle Garcia. She explains what a Twitter storm is, why they want to create it, and what to include in your Tweet (including samples of what to say):
The American Indian Center of Chicago is asking people to share plans to start a twitter storm with the presidential debate as platform.
We are generating attention towards the inattention the candidates and media have put toward the ongoing Dakota Access Pipeline blockade in Cannonball, ND. #NoDAPLChicago organizers are looking for water protectors from all over the world to participate in a Twitterstorm targeting elected officials, nominees, news networks, and banks bankrolling the Dakota Access Pipeline. Twitter storms work best when you get your friends, family, co-workers, and community to join in the fun. So begin recruiting immediately by sharing this info.
What is a twitter storm?
A twitter storm is a direct action that takes place on social media, namely Twitter but feel free to utilize all social media platforms. The objective of a twitter storm is to generate attention towards a particular issue by mass tweeting.
Why: Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump, Elected officials, news networks, and banks have been able to circumvent a national emergency in which profits are being placed before the well being of life on this planet. This is a threat to life on this planet and to tribal sovereignty.
We are going to begin tweeting 24-hours before the start of the next Presidential debate.
Twitter storm begins: October 18, 2016; 7 PM EST
Twitter storm surge: October 19, 2016; 7 PM EST
