1/31 TGIF “Berniestock”, Hot Toddies & Mocktail Hour/OT

The Progressive Wing Posted on January 31, 2020 by BennyJanuary 31, 2020

“If I had Medicare for All in 2012, I’d still be working. I wouldn’t be sitting here dying in my own home. And I don’t want that to happen to anybody else." –Jim Williams pic.twitter.com/FbvjpkMmle

— Bernie Sanders (@BernieSanders) January 31, 2020

Good news Jim! The Progressive Wing agrees with you that Bernie is willing to fight for healthcare as an American right, but that all countries should offer it if they can. We know our country can afford it.

Quite the turnout for Berniestock featuring Bon Iver, though it’s still TBD whether Sanders himself will make it tonight from the Senate trial. pic.twitter.com/5KB6y1s1Rw

DNC Up to New Bullshite today…

DNC chair Tom Perez on his reasoning for not holding a climate debate because it violated agreed-to rules about the (left) vs. the DNC changing agreed-to debate rules to accommodate a billionaire (right) 🤔 pic.twitter.com/U4Xunxz9Zu

— Kate Aronoff (@KateAronoff) January 31, 2020

The whole idea behind the current formula was to winnow the number, not add.

So now that Bernie Sanders is the frontrunner, the DNC is changing its debate rules mid-primary, eliminating the small donor threshold to let Bloomberg buy his way onto the stage.

Bloomberg’s surrogates are openly admitting he’s running as a Sanders spoiler.

Here we go again. https://t.co/WqGTuQijKo

The Progressive Wing Posted on November 3, 2019 by BennyNovember 3, 2019

Ilhan is finishing up her remarks, Bernie on shortly.

“Ilhan and I share a common link as the descendants of families who fled violence and poverty, and who came to this country as immigrants. But that is not just my story, or Ilhan's story — that is the story of America."

Only 17 House members say no to resolution condemning American’s right to boycott Israel

The Progressive Wing Posted on July 24, 2019 by Subir GrewalJuly 24, 2019

The anti-BDS laws are being proposed and promoted by Republicans who have made a political calculation about their conservative, evangelical base’s priorities. The conservative, evangelical movement was courted by the Israeli right-wing several decades ago. Even 35 years ago though, much of the American Jewish community understood what an alliance with conservative, evangelical movement meant: But while many Jewish leaders have openly welcomed the evangelicals’ eagerness to build ties, others say they are uneasy. They say they harbor deep doubts about the wisdom of alliances with conservative Christian groups that, they feel, want ultimately to convert the Jews and, on … Continue reading →

Ilhan Omar & Bernie Sanders to introduce bill that cancels all $1.6 Trillion in US student debt

The Progressive Wing Posted on June 23, 2019 by Subir GrewalJune 23, 2019

Sanders is proposing the federal government pay to wipe clean the student debt held by 45 million Americans — including all private and graduate school debt — as part of a package that also would make public universities, community colleges and trade schools tuition-free. Sanders is proposing to pay for these plans with a tax on Wall Street his campaign says will raise more than $2 trillion over 10 years, though some tax experts give lower revenue estimates. Sanders will be joined Monday by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), who will introduce legislation in the House to eliminate all student debt … Continue reading →

Rep. Ilhan Omar reminds us: “Stephen Miller is a White Nationalist”

The Progressive Wing Posted on April 9, 2019 by Subir GrewalApril 9, 2019

Rep. Ilhan Omar said the obvious yesterday: Stephen Miller is a white nationalist. The fact that he still has influence on policy and political appointments is an outrage. https://t.co/7NyMDgojd7 — Ilhan Omar (@IlhanMN) April 8, 2019 I have watched with dismay and increasing horror as my nephew, who is an educated man and well aware of his heritage, has become the architect of immigration policies that repudiate the very foundation of our family’s life in this country. I shudder at the thought of what would have become of the Glossers had the same policies Stephen so coolly espouses— the travel … Continue reading →

What we have learned from the attacks on Rep. Ilhan Omar

The Progressive Wing Posted on March 6, 2019 by Subir GrewalMarch 6, 2019

For now, House leaders have backed off from the presenting a resolution aimed at rebuking, or censuring Rep. Ilhan Omar. Earlier in the day, Democrats, including some prominent African-Americans, confronted Speaker Nancy Pelosi at a testy closed-door meeting, demanding to know why they were being pushed to pass the resolution when bigoted comments by Republicans have gone unchallenged. Representative Ayanna Pressley, Democrat of Massachusetts, said she told leadership that there must be “equity in our outrage,” noting that Ms. Omar, a Minnesotan and one of the first two Muslim women elected to Congress, was being attacked for her faith. — www.nytimes.com/… … Continue reading →
