Thank you jbob!

I might be able to watch some. A beautiful day for a rally.

I sense that many are looking for direction on the way forward. Fear has shifted to outrage, anxiety to hope of resistance for many.

I am grateful that people like Turner, Sanders and DeMoro are throwing their thoughts and passion into the void. Outrage and resistance more effective if focused. Simply raging against Trump won’t do much, imo. But raging against his appointments, his specific words, his specific actions and plans might result in benefits if we work together in a coherent way.

Lots of Bernie 2020 signs!

Is TPP definitely defeated?

So many people talked about China in discussing TPP. This person claims that China showed interest in joining TPP in a second round of negotiations.

“Net net, the loss of TPP is going to be a loss for China,” said Meredith Sumpter, who directs the Asia practice at the Eurasia Group. “There’s this popular view that the TPP was meant to be exclusive of China, and that’s simply not true: The U.S. wanted to get China engaged at a second (round of discussions), and the Chinese were quietly showing interest in that.”

I wish I could say yes, but what the TPTB want, the TPTB, up to now, anyway, get. Think this celebration is premature, but it’s as good a reason to congregate as any, i guess.

Isn’t the new president also against the trade agreements? This one promise I hope he keeps.

Vietnam walks away from American-backed trade deal TPP

Vietnam has decided not to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), with the trade deal’s future uncertain under incoming US President Donald Trump.

“The United States has announced it is suspending the submission of TPP to the parliament so there are not sufficient conditions for Vietnam to submit its proposal for ratification,” Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc told the National Assembly, according to Reuters.

Edit to add last paragraph:

‘Last week, Vietnam’s trade minister said traditional exports like textiles, seafood and footwear would remain competitive even without the US deal.’
